Ch.5--The Confrontation

1622 Words
Ember POV: I had a restless night. I couldn’t stop thinking about Gage and my dad. I have to tell Alpha Niko, I know this, I just need to wait for the right time. Maybe Gage can come to an agreement, a peace treaty, anything before I tell him. That might help some. I’ll have to call Gage later and talk to him about this. I don’t know if he will be willing to, but I won’t know if I don’t ask. I tried to go downstairs to make breakfast, but I couldn’t get my bedroom door open. I started pounding on it as panic seeped through my blood and heard my dad on the other side tell me to calm down. My mind is racing, did he really lock me in my room? How could he do this and expect me to stay calm! I heard him unlock several locks as I sat down on my bed. He came in and sat on my bed next to me. I was beyond mad, if it was physically possible there would have been smoke streaming from my ears. Alpha Niko: "Ember, honey, please hear me out. I did this for your own safety and to keep you from disobeying me again. You cannot pull stunts like you did yesterday, not when war has been declared. I thought about what you told me last night. I’m not saying you’re lying, because I don’t think you are, but the scent that was on you was from the Crescent Moon pack. I know that scent. If they had wolves in town, or worse following you, they could have killed you or taken you as prisoner. I will have someone bring you breakfast. If you need anything mind link me, and I will get it for you. Ember, this is only temporary honey. I hope you understand." With that he left the room, locking every lock before he walked away. My wolf was ready to take over. She could break the door. The look in dad’s eyes hinted there was more to this besides my safety. He left me with an uneasy feeling. I could give control to my wolf, but what good would that do? No telling how many guards dad has in this house now; I doubt I would be able to get very far, and it would only piss dad off more especially since my wolf is not allowed out around anyone but him. I grabbed my phone and called Gage. Gage POV: I was up all night trying to come up with ways to help Ember tell Niko I was her mate. So far, I couldn’t find one that didn’t end up in us fighting. He would never go for this; I don’t know how I would handle the situation if it was my daughter. My phone ringing brought me out of my thoughts…when I seen Ember’s name pop up on the screen, I was smiling like a kid in a candy store. I needed to hear her voice. Gage: Good morning darlin’ Ember: Gage?? She wanted to cry I could hear it in her voice, and I was instantly furious. I did the best I could to keep my tone even not wanting to upset her more. Gage: Ember, baby what’s wrong? Tell me what happened. She told me everything that happened and started with last night. I couldn’t believe the bastard locked her in her room. Who does he think he is? She isn’t a prisoner, and she doesn’t deserve to be treated like this. I wanted to hold her; it broke my heart when she started crying. My wolf wanted blood. Now I knew we had to do something. Storming through the gates and killing everyone to get to her would probably make her hate me so that was out of the question for now. Then it hit me. “Can you get out of your window?” I asked her, trying to keep my voice calm and steady. I didn’t want her to hear how mad I was and upset her more. I just needed her to be able to get out. I already had a plan before she could even answer me. Gage: "In two hours I need you to climb out of your window and meet me at the same spot I dropped you off at. Okay?" Ember: "Gage I can’t. I’m sure my dad has already doubled the patrol. I won’t be able to get by them." Gage: "Let me handle that darlin’, okay. You just get to me at our spot. See you soon." I hung up the phone and threw my desk across the room. I was barely holding it together. I quickly mind linked DeAngelo and told him to get a group of 20 of our warriors together and meet me in my study. I was going to get my mate. As soon as DeAngelo and the men arrived I started giving the orders. We are not going to fight. Ya’ll will be creating a distraction on the north side of their border. Do no cross into their territory though. We need to get as many of their wolves to the north side as we can. As long as none of ya’ll cross their border they shouldn’t attack. Ya’ll will distract Blood Moon until you hear from me. Shouldn’t be more than 20 minutes though. Once we get back, I will explain why we are doing this. DeAngelo and the others bowed their heads as I left the room. I got in my truck and raced over to the spot where I dropped Ember off at the night before. As soon as I got conformation from my guys that it was working, I sent Ember a text and told her to run to me. Ember POV: I was sitting on my bed worried and crying. I didn’t know what Gage was going to do but I trusted him. My dad had never acted this way with me. I wasn’t sure how far he would take all this, but I really had a bad feeling and didn’t want to find out. I could hear the guards outside my door talking before it went silent. They must be getting an order via mind link. Within minutes I could hear lots of commotion and I froze. I was scared. What if Gage just showed up at our house? I can’t even help him. That’s when I got a text telling me to run. I looked out of my window and seen wolves running to the north end. I jumped out of my window, hoping that everyone was to distracted to notice me. As soon as my feet hit the ground I ran as fast as I could. I was almost to Gage; I could see him through the trees and couldn’t help the smile spreading on my face. Gage started running towards me and he looked mad. Before I could do anything, I was tackled to the ground and pinned. I was in my human form, and pain shot through me as I landed hard against the earth. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I turned just in time to see Gage shift midair. My eyes were blurry, but I was trying to make out who tackled me. Dad. It was my dad. He was so focused on me he didn’t even see Gage coming. Gage knocked him off me and they started growling at each other. Gage had positioned himself between me and dad. It made my heart swell ten times bigger seeing my mate protecting me and at the same time I was terrified; my dad had never laid a hand on me, human or wolf. The two men in my life were about to try and kill each other. I was in aww of how incredibly large Gage was. His wolf was twice as large as my dad’s and even bigger than that compared to the Blood Moon fighters. He was huge!! He had jet black hair and it was so shiny. I shook my head trying to focus on what was happening. Within minutes more wolves from Blood Moon had circled us. Gage paused, I’m assuming to mind link his men, and I took that as my chance to get in the middle of him and dad. I threw my hands up at both of them yelling for them to stop. Gage didn’t like that and let out a low growl. I looked at my dad and couldn’t stop the tears that were rolling down my cheeks. When Gage seen the tears, he shifted back almost immediately. I kept my back to him knowing he was naked, and I would be embarrassed. I pleaded with my dad to please shift and talk to me. He continued growling and eyeing Gage; I could tell by his eyes he wanted blood. I couldn’t hold it together any longer. “Dad! Please, Gage is my mate!” I yelled through tears. I knew as soon as it left my mouth, I shouldn’t have said it, but it just came out. It wasn’t a lie though, and I wasn’t ashamed of it. He was going to find out either way. As soon as the words left my mouth, dad let out a loud howl and begin circling Gage. I hadn’t noticed Gage had shifted back to his wolf and his warriors were now here with us. I didn’t know what to do. I was in full panic mode at this point. My whole body was shaking, and the tears were streaming down my face. I gave control to my wolf. That’s all I knew to do.
