Mate? Is that what this is? Is he really my mate? I don’t even know his name, or where he is from. I have heard about mates and finding them. I know that it’s a little different for everyone, but I couldn’t believe I had found mine. This must be why my wolf is acting so crazy. Standing this close to him I can now tell he isn’t just any wolf, he’s one of power that much is clear. I now know he isn’t from my pack. I know the wolves who hold rank in my pack, and he definitely isn’t one of them. He must be a Beta or Delta from one of the surrounding packs, but I’m not sure which one. Oh, he smells amazing though. I must have had a dumb founded look on my face because he started to chuckle. “How are YOU, my mate?” is all I can say, sounding a little ruder than I intended. He is so calm about the whole thing.
My wolf is going crazy and wants to pounce on him right here in this store. I still can’t believe she is acting this way. Even though I don’t have any idea who this male is I don’t feel scared or threatened. In fact, I feel just the opposite, I feel safe.
My thoughts were interrupted as he told me we should talk about this away from human ears. That’s when I realized we were still standing in front of the register. I nod and he leads me out with his hand on the small of my back like we have always been together. I didn’t mind, his touch felt magical against me. Sending shock waves through my body.
Once outside he points me to a jacked up solid black pickup with dark tinted windows that was parked next to the store. He opened the door for me “After you darlin’.” I don’t know what to think, this can’t be real. I slide into the seat and wait for him to get in. Watching as he walks around the front of the pickup. “I’m Gage,” he says so softly it gave me goosebumps, “what’s your name?”
“Ember, my name is Ember,” I manage squeak out in response.
“Well Ember I’m glad I found you. I was starting to think I would never find my mate.”
Every time he starts to talk my mind wonders. All I can do is think about his amazing scent, his soft and kind voice, and his delicious looking body. His country accent tells me he is from around here. The more I think about him the more I want to jump on him and do things to him no one has ever done. “There will be plenty of time for that” he scoffs and smiles at me. How did he know what I was thinking? Can he read minds? “How do you know you are my mate? You don’t even know me,” I questioned him after finally finding my voice again.
*** Story will now have different POV***
Gage POV:
I have never seen someone so beautiful in my life. Sure, I have seen lots of pretty women and had my fair share of them, but she was different. I could feel it in my bones. She is my mate. I can’t help but wonder if she felt it too. My wolf knew immediately and is ready to find her and claim her. I have heard about finding your mate my whole life but being 25 already I had decided that the gods had forgot about me. They say that your wolf knows before you do, and I now believe that’s true. The only reason I even went into town today, or in that overpriced coffee shop, was because of my wolf. And now I know why, it seems so unreal.
She took off out the door before I could think to stop her and now, I can hardly contain my wolf. He is pushing for control, mad that I let our mate walk away the way I did. I had to go find her. I jump in my truck and start down the road hoping I wasn’t too late. She couldn’t have got far walking. And then, there she was her blonde hair flowing down her back, sun kissed skin and legs for miles and heading into Sunset Boutique. I circle around the block and find a place to park my truck and run inside. I walked in at the right time; she was about to pay for a dress she found. I pulled out my credit card and swiped it before anyone could stop me.
When she looked up and seen me, I knew my wolf wasn’t lying. Could she feel this too? It was as if we were being pulled together by magnets. Everything in me wanted to scoop her up and whisk her away, back to my place. “Thank you, but I could have paid for it,” she said shyly. That brought me out of my thoughts and all I could think was there was no way my mate will be paying for stuff with her own money. All I can think is how I will spend the rest of my life doing everything I can to care for her, love her, protect her, and please her...even if she rejects me. The look she is giving me tells me she feels this pull too, but we need to have this conversation in a more private place, away from human eyes and ears.
I lead her out to my truck, and she slides in. Her eyes all but say what she wants, and I want nothing more than to please her in more ways than one in the backseat of my truck, but now is not the time. She isn’t just a one-night stand, someone I am using only for s*x. I want to take try and take it slow and get to know her first. Her name sounds familiar, but I can’t remember how. Then it hit me. Alpha Niko. I think he has a daughter named Ember. I would have to wait and see what pack she’s from before I would know for sure though.
Ember POV:
Gage. Where have I heard this name before? I sit and contemplate it and finally decide I didn’t know. Maybe I should pay more attention at home. I mean he must be from our pack, and I just don’t remember. My wolf is howling and wants to be closer to him. I don’t blame her; I feel like I should be closer too. It takes all of my self-control not to reach out and touch him. His full lips seem to be calling to me. I bet they feel just a good as they look.
“I’m the Alpha from Crescent Moon Pack,” Gage says.
My eyes go dark as I’m yanked from my wild thoughts, and I could feel the blood draining from my face. What have I just walked into? Gage must have seen it to, “Darlin’, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” I can’t speak, I don’t know what to do, my mind is racing just as fast as my heart is. The Crescent Moon Pack. The pack that just attacked us. I think about making a run for it, but I know if he really is the Alpha, I don’t stand a chance, and my wolf is crying at the thought of running from him, he is our mate. I finally get the nerve to speak, “I am from the Blood Moon Pack,” I say hesitantly, “I am Alpha Niko’s daughter.”
He sighed deeply and closed his eyes. He sat there in silence for a few minutes, and I could tell he was trying to decide what to do. My mind was swirling as emotions began to flood me. Anger for coming to town. Sadness because I will never be able to be with my mate. Fear for what this Alpha was about to do to me. What was about to happen to me? Would he lock me in a prison cell made of silver? Hold me hostage and use me against my dad? Or worse?
