Third person narrative
Ethan stood afar off, watching Fiona try her best to walk up the stairs with all of the books in her hand. Even though he would have loved to help her, he also didn't want to create the impression that he liked her.
Being that he was still angry with her mother's union with his father, there was no way he could possibly become her friend or even stepbrother.
However, he was completely shocked when she tumbled down the stairs.
He gasped, feeling really sorry for her. He wanted to help since it was partly because of him she fell down, so he approached her with that in mind when Brittany suddenly appeared.
“Where are you going?” She asked him, and then she looked in the direction he was heading and saw Fiona lying helplessly on the floor.
Brittany's laugh and a piercing nasal noise echoed across the hallway. She laughed to her heart's content at Fiona's sorry state. Ethan looked at her, a wince on his face.
“Would you look at that?” Brittany said as she walked down the stairs towards Fiona.
“Did you do this?” she asked Ethan, and he shook his head.
“I also found her like that. I just came here to pick up my books,” Ethan replied and Brittany nodded her head and looked back at Fiona.
They walked towards where Fiona lay helplessly not bothering to lift a finger up to help her.
Ethan looked Fiona over from behind Brittany. She didn't seem to have any major injuries, and she wasn't seriously bleeding out of nowhere. He also noticed that she was moving a little, so he sighed thankfully.
“You know you look good like that. All bloody and beaten,” Brittany bent over Fiona. “You should wear this look frequently. You're sure to get a lot of attention,” she smirked.
She stood up straight and looked at Ethan.
“Get your books so we can go,” she said and Ethan nodded.
He walked over to Fiona's bag, opened it up, and took what he needed, along with some that were scattered on the floor.
“Help me,” Fiona said weakly to Ethan, and he looked away, a frown on his face.
He closed his eyes, clenching his jaw as he stood up and moved away from her. He knew she might not get the help she needed as the area was already deserted.
“Let's go, babe,” Brittany said and he followed her, leaving Fiona lying on the floor, helpless.
Tears streamed down the side of Fiona's face as she watched Brittany and Ethan leave her
She had thought that they would at least be human enough to help her, but it seemed that she had expected too much of such vile beings.
What hurt most was that Ethan didn't even seem to flinch at her misfortune and despite trying to tell herself that he was a jerk, she was still badly hurt by the thought.
After a really long time, she was able to gather the strength to pull herself from the floor and sit up. She looked herself over. She had bruises basically everywhere.
She had an injury on her head, and her ankle might have sprained. She slowly moved, making sure nothing was broken and finally, she was able to get up on her feet.
She packed her books that were scattered on the floor, and arranged them in her bag, leaving the school complex.
She didn't wait for school to be over, she just left and took a taxi home. When she got there, she didn't expect to see alpha Aziel there.
“What happened to you, Fiona?” He asked, shock written all over his face.
“It's nothing serious, I just fell,” Fiona said, brushing it off.
“What do you mean it's nothing serious? You have bruises!” He exclaimed.
He walked over to her and pulled her to sit on the sofa.
“Stay there, I'll call the family doctor over to treat you,” he said and pulled out his phone from his pocket.
After his call, he made her lie down and take a rest before the doctor finally arrived. They moved her to her room, and the doctor cleaned up all of her wounds and stitched the one on her head.
She was in so much pain that they had to give her some anesthesia and sleeping medicine.
By this time, Olivia and Mirabel had come out. They heard what had happened, and Olivia was really worried. The injuries seemed serious, so they sent for Ethan who was still at school.
“What the hell could have happened to her at school?” Olivia asked Alpha Aziel.
“She said she fell down the stairs,” he replied.
“How could she just fall down the stairs? She has been depressed since she started going to school there, what if she's being bullied?” Olivia thought the worst.
“Come on, don't think that far, and we can't jump to any conclusions without proper evidence,” Alpha Aziel calmed her.
Olivia turned to look at Mirabel. It was her daughter who was lying in there covered in bandages, yet she didn't seem to care. Instead, she looked to be thinking deeply about something else.
“Are you sure you're even human?” Olivia asked Mirabel, and she turned to look at her.
“Your daughter, your own flesh and blood is lying in there bruised and battered, and you stand there like we just picked a stranger up from the street? Do you even have a heart?” Olivia screamed as she moved closer to Mirabel who was still quiet.
Alpha Aziel stopped her from getting closer to Mirabel.
“Olivia, please calm down. I understand how you feel, but this is not the time,” The alpha said.
As he said this, Ethan finally stepped into the house.
“What happened to Fiona?” Olivia asked him.
“I don't know,” he lied.
“Olivia, I told you. She said she fell down the stairs,” alpha Aziel told Olivia.
“Are you sure you're not lying to us, Ethan?” Olivia asked him.
“No, I'm not,”
After saying that, Olivia finally left him alone.
“Well, the reason we sent for you is because we're going to be out on a trip for important pack business, and someone needs to look after Fiona. You're the only one available, so you're in charge,” Alpha Aziel told Ethan.
“I'm entrusting you with her, meaning you'll have to take care of all of her needs, make sure she takes her medicine, and do not leave her alone. Do you understand me?” Alpha Aziel instructed.
“Yes, Dad,” Ethan replied reluctantly.
“If you leave her alone to attend any party, I'll know,” he said for the last time before they packed all of their stuff and after saying goodbye to him, they left.
Ethan sighed as he watched the car go. He walked up the stairs, making his way to Fiona's room. He opened the door and walked inside to find her sleeping peacefully, covered in bandages and gauze.
He felt really sorry for her and felt bad that he couldn't help her. He knew she was going to be angry at him for not helping her.
His heart stung him badly as he stood there watching her.
'what was it about her that makes him want to show her some care?' he thought.
