Fiona
“Where are you, We don't have a lot of time,” Olivia called out before entering my room.
She had previously sent a maid to come fetch me but I was really tired and needed to rest. I didn't even know I had slept off.
“You can't be sleeping when the entire pack is getting ready for you,” she said playfully as she grabbed my hand and pulled me along with her.
She pulled me out of the room and down the stairs. I wasn't as fit as she was, so I was slowing her down, and I was already panting a lot from just a short distance.
We finally got outside, and a car was waiting for us already. She quickly got into it, while I was still trying my best to catch my breath. I was finally able to get in, and the car started.
I was so happy I could barely sit still. I had never been shopping in my life. All the clothes I had were hand-me-downs, never anything new.
I was always content with what I had because I never wanted to pressure my mom, or should I say my aunt into doing too much for me, but I always envied the girls who would show off the new clothes or shoes that they had.
The car finally stopped, and we were in front of a store. From the street it was on, and the name, I could tell it was a high-class store. My heart started beating faster. I couldn't believe I was going to step inside a store like that, and not only step in, but buy something.
I followed Olivia in, and we were welcomed by the staff. They seemed to know her, but I guess why not? She had probably been here more times than I could count.
Olivia looked through the clothes, while I just walked behind her, not wanting to touch anything until I was asked to. She finally turned towards me as she pulled out a dress and put it on me to see how it would look.
“I think that this would look great on you,” she smiled at me, and I just nodded my head.
I didn't know a lot about clothes or fashion, so it was better to just go with whatever I was given.
Out of the side of my eye, I could see some girls who were also shopping had stopped to look at me. They were talking and laughing within themselves.
I sighed and looked away from them. This was something that happened to me a lot, but that didn't mean I was used to it.
'What the hell is she doing here?’ I heard one of them ask.
'I don't even think that dress would fit her. She'll probably rip it to shreds,” another said.
They laughed on and on.
By then, Olivia had picked up some more dresses and asked me to put them on, but I shook my head.
“Why? What's wrong?,” she asked, and I just pursed my lips.
She looked behind me and noticed the girls, then she sighed and looked back at me.
“You're beautiful, Fiona. You shouldn't let what anyone says or does make you feel bad about yourself, okay?” She asked with a smile on her face, and I nodded my head.
I took the dresses and went into the changing room, trying them on one after the other. Each time I wore one, I only received praise from Olivia, telling me that I looked beautiful and that there was no one else that ever wore it as I did.
She made me genuinely happy and I was grateful to have met another aunt who treated me like their own child.
After we were done with the shopping, we left the store and headed home. The bags were a lot. She had me but more dresses, shoes, and accessories, and even when I tried to stop her, she scolded me. I didn't even want to look at the total price, because I was sure I would faint.
When we got back to the house, I saw a woman standing outside. She looked exactly like I did, eyes, nose, and lips. I was sure she was my mom.
She looked like she was waiting and when she noticed the car, she stood straight. The look on her face did not seem happy at all.
“That's your mom,” Olivia smiled as she got out of the car.
I followed behind her, excited to meet my mom for the first time, not knowing what I would even say to her.
We finally reached where she was, and I was about to greet her when she interrupted me.
“What the hell do you think you're doing, Olivia?” Her voice thundered.
My heart beat painfully in my chest, as my feelings turned from excitement to fear and shock from being ignored.
“What do you mean?” Olivia asked, confused.
“How could you leave your duties to run around town, playing dress up with this girl?”
“I just took her out 'cause I felt she needed to have fun. She has been through a lot lately, doesn't she deserve some love and care?”
“I do not care what you felt. All I care about is that you carry out your duty when you should. Don't let this repeat itself, I've warned you,”
With that, she turned around and made her way back into the house.
“Mum!” I called after her, but not once did she turn back to look at me.
She just ignored my existence. My mother, whom I had been excited to meet, didn't even spare me a glance.
It hurt more than anyone could ever imagine.
I stood there, dumbfounded. I couldn't find the right words to say. Olivia looked back at me, her face sad.
“What's wrong?” I asked her. “Why doesn't she want to talk to me?”
“You don't have to feel bad about that, Fiona. Your mom's just tired from all the duties that she has to perform. Bring the Luna of such a big pack isn't easy, so you have to understand,”
Olivia smiled, as she spoke, but for the first time, the smile didn't reach her eyes. Her lips were saying a completely different thing from her eyes. I sighed and acted like I took what she said.
“Don't worry, she'll talk to you after she's fully rested,”
Lies.
I just kept in mind, the fact that my mom didn't like me, even though I had no idea what I did wrong.
“Moving on, the king has planned a welcome dinner for you this evening,” Olivia announced, and I gasped.
“Really?” I asked and she nodded her head.
I had never met the king before, but he was already nice to me and wanted me to feel welcome.
“It's my job to get you prepared for it, so stop sulking and come with me,”
After saying that, she grabbed my hand and pulled me along with her. She'd done that a lot of times, even though we just met.
After all the time we had spent outside, I just realized then that there were other people in the house and the compound too. People were decorating and setting up chairs and tables. They looked to almost be done with it all.
When we got back to my room, all the bags were already there.
“Go take a bath, and come back for your makeup,”
I rushed into the bathroom, took off my clothes, and scrubbed myself clean. I washed my hair too and rushed out of the bathroom, to see that Olivia had set out a lot of makeup products on the dresser.
I dried myself off and Olivia got to work on my face. She didn't let me look in the mirror, till she was done with both my hair and makeup. I hadn't had the opportunity to put on makeup for most of my life, so I was pretty excited to see how I would look.
When she was done, she turned me around to face the mirror, and I gasped when I saw my reflection. I almost didn't recognize myself. The make-up, though light, had accentuated my features, and she had made my hair into an updo. I looked so different that I was sure that if people who knew me before saw me, they wouldn't know it was me.
“You look really beautiful,” Olivia complimented, and I smiled.
“Thank you,”
“So, I've already laid the dress, shoes, and accessories that you're meant to wear out on the table. I have to go and get dressed myself, so I'll come get you when it's time for you to come down, okay?”
I nodded at her and thanked her before she left. I smiled softly as I looked at the dress she had laid out.
The dress she laid out was a one-shoulder dark green dress, with dark ruby shoes and ruby accessories. They were really beautiful paired together.
After a while of waiting, Olivia came back, all dressed up. She looked really pretty. She was wearing a maxi black strapless dress. She had her hair up too and her makeup was dark.
“Why haven't you dressed up yet?” she interrupted before I could compliment her.
“Sorry, I lost track of time,” I laughed as she held my hand and pulled me up from where I was sitting.
I quickly pulled in the dress and put on the accessories and shoes. I looked at myself for the last time in the mirror, and for the first time, I could say that I looked beautiful.
After a while, it was finally time to go down, and Olivia left me outside and down the stairs. There were a whole lot of people there, and I wondered why they were there, but then I remembered that my stepfather was the Alpha after all, so even though they didn't know me, they'd want to grace his invitation, and hopefully want to get to know me.
All eyes were on me as I made my way down the stairs, with Olivia leading me. I tried my best not to make my nervousness visible, but I was sweating from every pore I had. Olivia squeezed my hand a little, encouraging me as best she could. She could probably feel my sweaty palms.
We finally made it down the stairs, and the music came back on as some people approached me to greet me and get to know me. I received a lot of compliments, and they made me very happy, but on the other hand, some people didn't even try to act like they liked me, and chose to remain where they were with daggers shooting out of their eyes at me.
But it wasn't like I cared. I was very happy.
“You must think you have everything set out for you now that you've been brought into this house,” a voice said from behind me, and I turned around to see Brittany.
I sighed and shook my head. I didn't even know who she was, and the two times I had met her, she had managed to spoil my mood.
“You're nothing more than the poor peasant you were before you came here, so don't get used to this, because you're going right back to the s**t hole you came from, fattso”
Such lame insults.
“Enough of that, Brittany. You should be ashamed of yourself. Why are you speaking to her in that manner, when I'm sure she's done nothing to you? I advise you to walk away before right now,” Olivia scolded.
Brittany just glared at me and scoffed before walking away.
“Don't mind her, Fiona. Just have fun. She always acts like she's got a stick up her ass,”
“Who is she even?” I finally asked.
“Well, she's your stepbrother, Ethan's girlfriend,” Olivia explained and I nodded my head.
“And where is this Ethan, if I may ask?” I asked her, and she pointed to a young man who was standing in the corner of the room, talking to some people.
He was handsome. He had brown hair, styled up, and really strong facial features. He was the most handsome man I had seen in a while. He was dressed in a black suit, with gold trimmings.
As if on cue, Ethan turned his face towards me, and our eyes met. I raised my hand to wave at him, but his face contorted and he looked away from me like I was some sort of eyesore.
I expected that we could be friends, but I think I had too many expectations of my step-family.
I sucked in air through my teeth and let it out. A lot had happened in just a day of being in the house. I shook my head as if shaking away all bad thoughts. I decided to take Olivia's advice to just have fun, and that was what I did.
After the dinner, I lost Olivia, so I was left alone to look for my room myself, but I somehow got lost. I opened a door that I thought was mine and walked in. It was when I looked at the bed I realized that it wasn't.
On the bed, lay Ethan, staring at me with dark brown eyes. The look he gave me was different from the one he gave me during the dinner.
It was almost lustful, but that wasn't possible.
He was my stepbrother.
“I'm sorry, I thought this was my room,” I stammered as I tried opening the behind, but it seemed the door was an auto lock.
He slowly got up from the bed he was in and walked towards me, his height towering over me with his eyes holding mine in a strong gaze.
He had such beautiful eyes and there was something about him that made me want to linger around him a little longer.
I could feel my palms getting sweaty, my stomach felt knotted as I tried to compose myself before him.
He was so close that I have never felt so caged in my life, a clicking sound from behind made me redirected my eyes to his.
“Why are you still standing there? Get out of my room,” he said and I quickly stepped out and closed the door behind me.
