Chapter 10Selbourne Will A quiet night preceded a not-as-early-as-he’d-hoped start. It was full light, with the September sun coming round the edge of the bedroom curtains when Will belted on his dressing gown and emerged from the bedroom, leaving Fenn dead to the world. They had bunked in together so that Keren could have the spare room to themselves with one or another of the workers standing guard for any sign or pursuit. There were noises coming from the bathroom as he stumbled past the closed door, and someone was rattling pans on the stove. Keren’s door was ajar and the child was still asleep, a silent hump curled under the blankets. He followed the rattling pans to the kitchen.
