THREE HOURS EARLIER
Prince Damian
My Dad is so f*****g stubborn. Winning an argument against him might only ever happen when pigs finally fly. But even though I know that very well, I’m still not backing down from this one.
“Dad no, that’s just ridiculous, I can’t have those guards following me everywhere at the campus, they have to remain here,” I say, looking up at him where he is seated on his Royal throne in front of me.
“Son, you are my heir, and as far as I am concerned you are the most important person in this kingdom right now. You safety is my number one priority and I cannot let you go to live in that school without any protection, it’s just out of the table,” he says.
I cant believe this. I’m supposed to be already on my way to The Blueridge College for the Gifted and instead Dad chooses this very morning to start arguing?
“Okay, tell me this Dad, when you were studying there back in the day, did you have any royal guards following you around all the time?” I ask him.
“No, but that was back then son. These are dangerous times we live in today, who knows what could happen to you out there?” he says.
“But Dad it’s a freaking school, the only thing that could happen to me there is the lectures boring me to death… You can’t make me…”
“What are you boys talking about?” Mom suddenly cuts me off, as she enters into the room where Dad and I are talking. As soon as I see her, I release a sigh of relief, she is usually my savior in situations like these, so I immediately turn to her.
She is walking gracefully into the room while wearing her full Queen regalia. The gorgeous red gown she’s wearing is sweeping gently on the smooth marble floor of this throne-room as she comes closer towards us.
“Mom, can you please tell Dad that I won't be able to study in peace with his guards breathing down my neck?” I say.
She smiles gently at me and stands a few paces in front of me.
“We’ll get into that in a minute, but first, good morning, did you sleep well?” she says, looking at me.
I’m still so pissed off at Dad right now, but my Mom’s gentle aura is kinda irresistible, so I cool down a bit and smile slightly at her.
“Yeah, I slept fine.”
“And did you prepare everything? Is everything packed and ready?” she says.
“Yeah, everything is packed but Mom I can’t go to that school with babysitters following me around everywhere. Do you know how frustrating it will be to be everyone’s center of attention because I'm being followed around by armed guards everywhere I go?” I say.
“But Damian, you are royalty…” Mom says.
“Yes I know that, but that doesn’t mean I can't be allowed my personal space to just be myself. Besides I am not some defenseless victim, Dad, you know my Lycan is at his best strength from all the training I do, I can take care of myself. I just want to be able to make real friends and real connections out there, and people will never get to really know me if they always see me as the guarded Prince who walks around with bodyguards,” I explain.
When I say that, Mom and Dad look at each other for a moment, and I see a slight smile curve itself onto Mom’s face.
“Hmm, so you would rather forfeit your Royal protective detail so that you’ll be able to connect with people better?” she says, looking at me with prodding eyes.
“Exactly, how am I supposed to ever get to know our people if they view me as unapproachable? I don’t want to be in that school as Prince Damian Mom, I just want to be there as Damian, there to study and make friends just like everybody else,” I explain.
Mom’s smile broadens when I say that, and I see her glance at Dad before looking back into my eyes.
“Spoken like a true leader Damian, I've always known you had it in you,” she says to me.
Her words make me smile. Her approval always raises my spirits so much, right now I’m not even mad at Dad anymore.
“All that is well and good, but there is absolutely no way the Crown Prince will leave the Palace without us being assured of his safety, it just won’t happen,” Dad suddenly cuts in, making Mom and I turn to look at him, on his throne.
“Okay how about this…” Mom starts, “Damian, you’ll go to the college with three guards…” I cut her off immediately when she says that.
“But Mom…”
“No, let me finish… they won’t be following you everywhere. We’ll get the school’s Headmistress to find them a place to stay and then I will give them the express orders to always keep an eye on you but without invading on your privacy. That way, they will always be at your beck and call in case of anything, but they won’t interfere with your social life at the school, how does that sound?”
Mom says and then looks forward at Dad, making me also look at him because its really his decision that matters here. Dad remains silent for a moment and glances at both Mom and I before finally saying…
“Okay, that I can accept… but only under one condition,”
“What’s that?” I say.
“The guards will be five, not three,” he says.
“Deal,” the word flies out of my mouth by itself, and it makes Dad smile slightly.
I’m just so excited, I couldn’t bear the thought of spending my four years at that college with uniformed guards following me around everywhere like Dad had been saying.
This is such a relief. At least now I’ll get to actually have a life at that college. So even if he wanted ten guards to come I don’t give a s**t, just as long as they won’t be breathing down my neck and following me around.
“Okay then, it’s settled. Go make me proud son, and get to know your people if that’s what you want,” Dad says.
“Okay Dad, I’ll get on my way then. Everything is already in the cars,” I say but then Mom intervenes.
“Actually, I’ll go with you Damian, I want to speak to that Headmistress in person,” she says.
“Alright Mom, let’s go,”
Mom and I then turn around to walk away, but just before I take a step, Dad calls.
“Damian,” he says, making me turn to look at him again.
“You know I only insisted on this because I love you right?” he says.
He can be such a bastard sometimes, and other times, when he wants to, he can actually be quite warm.
So I nod my head at him… “I love you too Dad,” I say.
“See you son, be safe,” he adds while adjusting his sitting position on the golden throne.
“I will.”
Mom and I walk all the way out of the Royal throne room. We walk down the steps towards the decorated compound in front of the Palace where the Royal entourage of seven black SUV’s is already waiting to take me to the college.
I can hear all the car engines revving ready to go, as Mom and I walk gracefully down the steps towards where they are parked up in front of us.
Two guards quickly walk up to us and they show us to the neat black limousine that’s standing in between the SUV’s. The doors are immediately opened and Mom and I enter into the gorgeous space of the luxurious limo.
I’m sure my servants already took care of the luggage and secured it somewhere in one of these cars, so I’m not even worried about that.
Just as the cars start moving, I find myself thinking about her again. That beautiful girl I saw at the alpha ceremony two nights ago. I can’t even lie to you, she has been haunting my dreams ever since I laid eyes on her that night.
She was bold. Everyone I meet always looks down or away to avoid looking into my eyes, and I don’t even know why they do that, but not her. She just f*****g stood there and stared right into my eyes.
I've never felt so… seen.
And i'ts not just that, I actually felt it … when she was standing there. That pull that Dad told me about. That explosive excitement and intense longing inside. That’s why I kinda froze for a minute and I didn’t even know what to do in that moment when she was looking at me.
It’s her. It’s f*****g her. She is the one… I have no doubt about it. But then she just ran away that night. I tried following her into the crowd at that party but I couldn’t find her, she was just gone.
Is she a werewolf in that Red Moon pack? I can’t even tell. That Alpha ceremony was attended by so many different packs from all over the kingdom I can’t really be sure where she was from.
But that won’t stop me. Now that I know she is out there, I won’t stop until I find her. And that’s actually the biggest reason I want to go to this college. The Blueridge College for the Gifted is just on the outskirts of Blueridge town. And Red Moon Pack is situated in Blueridge town, and now that I’ve talked my parents into not putting a tail on my ass, I will have all the time to go looking for her.
I haven’t even told my parents that I found her. I don’t know why I haven’t told them. I just… I want to really meet her first, then I can be sure when I tell the King and Queen that I found my fated.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when she stood right there in front of me. I had actually given up hope of ever meeting the one fated for me, and then there she was. You know, I wonder why she ran away like that. Was she scared of me? Did she feel it too?
“Your Majesty, we are here,” the driver’s voice suddenly knocks me out of my thoughts, and that’s when I realize the car has already stopped.
I look outside my window and I see students everywhere around the vast compound surrounded by tall concrete walls. Most people are already looking towards us, all these cars must have already caught their attention.
“Okay Sam,” Mom says to the driver and looks at me. “Are you ready?”
“You know I am,” I tell her and she smiles. “That I do…”
As she is speaking, the doors of the limo are opened from the outside, and Mom and I get out of the car and step outside.
As soon as I’m standing outside in the fresh air, a certain beautiful enchanting scent blows onto my face. It quickly engulfs me all around, and it sparks that feeling in my whole body again.
I suddenly feel my Lycan, Zeus, awaken in my mind. I read his thoughts because they are pretty much my thoughts, and only one word is spinning in our mind right now.
MATE
Wait, she’s here at the college?
