Cassidy
I haven’t even told Mom about what happened to me at that shopping center yesterday. And the reason I haven’t told her is that I’m not even sure I know what happened myself.
So I have just been trying my best not to even think about it because the more I think about it the more confused I get.
I went to another mall after that embarrassing scene and still bought the things I had gone out to buy. I really can’t risk anything ruining this college opportunity for me, maybe that’s even why I don’t feel comfortable talking about that weird incident with Mom.
She might make a big deal of it and somehow decide I should stay home for a while longer. I don’t want that, I’ve had enough of this packhouse, so I'll just keep it to myself for now. Maybe I’ll find an explanation for that once I settle in at that new school I’m going.
It’s super early in the morning right now. Mom and I are just about to leave. I’m standing behind our white sedan and I have the trunk open while I fit my suitcases inside.
Once they are safely inside, I bang the trunk door down and then walk around the car. I’m going to be riding shotgun while Mom is driving, but I take a moment outside just to take in the view of our packhouse grounds this early in the morning.
I see some people jogging in a group around the far edges of the compound, towards the tree line. I can’t really say I will miss this place. The only thing that made me happy here was my best friend Mandy, and now that she is gone from here, it’s now just my turn to leave.
I’ll be visiting Mom of course, but somehow I just don’t feel like I could consider this packhouse home anymore.
With this, I enter into the car and close the door behind me. I look at Mom and she looks at me and smiles slightly.
“Are you ready?” she says.
“Not ready Mom… Excited,” I tell her and her sweet smile broadens.
“That’s my girl… I’ve always known you were meant for greatness Cassie, now go to that college and show them how its done, okay?” she adds, looking into my eyes.
Her sweet words make me smile and nod my head. Mom then starts the engine and immediately gets us out of the packhouse compound and onto the road.
The Blueridge College for the Gifted isn’t even that far from where we are right now. It’s just on the outskirts of our town. We should take like say an hour to get there.
It’s a good thing it’s so close, it means Mom and I won’t really be that far apart. She can always come visit, and I can visit her too when I get the chance. Even though I’m really looking forward to beginning this new chapter, I would really hate for Mom and I to grow apart.
She really has been my rock these past few months. And that’s why I feel so guilty right now for not opening up to her about what’s going on with me. It’s not that I don’t want to tell her about yesterday, I just… I don’t even know what happened myself so I couldn’t even know what to explain.
The only thing I remember was tripping and falling onto the floor of the store, and then just like magic, the bucket of spilling water just paused in the air above me.
Wait, that must have been magic, right? Maybe it wasn’t me that did that. Maybe there was like a witch in that shopping center and she just did that to help me out and stayed silent about it.
That’s the only explanation that would make sense. Because how could I have done that myself? I don’t have any magic powers.
“Are you okay there?” Mom suddenly calls. I turn my head away from my window and look at her.
“Huh?”
“You seem kinda quiet, is everything alright?” she says, as she continues driving.
“Everything is fantastic Mom… I’m just … I can’t wait to get there,” I fake a smile because I don’t really wanna tell her about the stuff that’s really bugging me right now. Its just way too complicated to even talk about.
“Don’t worry, we’ll be there in a minute,” she says. “Do you know the School’s Headmistress called me herself this morning to make sure you were still coming?” she adds.
“She did?” I say, a little surprised.
“Yeah she did. I guess she must really want you there.”
“Isn’t that a little strange?” I say to Mom.
“Not really, she said its just procedure, they like to make sure that they confirm everyone that is getting enrolled is coming,” Mom explains.
“Oh, that’s … interesting,” I say.
But still, why would the Headmistress call my Mom personally. Shouldn’t that be the work of their secretary or something?
Anyway, maybe I’m just reading too much into it. Since that weird thing that happened to me at the shopping center yesterday, I guess I’m still a little skittish. I’m sure everything is just fine. I actually have a really good feeling about this school. I haven’t even gotten there yet and I already feel like I’m becoming a new person already.
“Okay, here we are,” Mom suddenly says, shaking me out of my thoughts.
I look outside and see her driving in through the huge metallic gates of the college. The name of the school is embedded with huge letters on a metallic arch over the massive gates we are entering through.
As soon as our car enters into the compound, I see students everywhere. There is a massive open space at the front of the tall towering buildings. I see green lawns separated by sharply trimmed hedges cutting across all over the open space.
There are flagstoned pavements everywhere and some trees standing at random distances across the space. The students are scattered everywhere here, I see some running about, while others are standing together talking and laughing. Others are seated on concrete benches around the space and others are lying on the green lawns in groups.
Just seeing the commotion and energy of everyone here makes feel so alive. I can already tell I’m going to love it here. And damn do they have some hotties here.
I watch two boys standing together with their ripped bodies and broad muscular chests showing through their t-shirts, it just makes me so jumpy. I bet in this place I will finally get to meet my wolf, and once I do, I bet one of these hotties will be the one for me. Okay, now I’m really getting excited.
While the thoughts keep storming my head, Mom stops the car in front of the huge buildings of the school and parks it beside a black Mercedes.
“Okay baby we are here… go get the bags, I’ll go see if I can find the reception,” Mom says to me and opens her door.
“Okay.” I say.
I then open my own door and quickly walk out to the back to pick my bags. I remove the suitcases out of the trunk in haste and I pull them both along the floor towards the front of the car.
That’s where I find Mom standing with another woman, a few paces from what looks like the administration building. The lady Mom is talking to is dressed in a neat navy blue skirt suit. Her skirt is knee-length and I see a sparkly cream blouse inside her coat.
She is actually wearing the hell out of that outfit, and the warm smile on her face kinda just tops it all off.
“Oh, this is her,” Mom suddenly says when she sees me.
The lady turns to look at me, and I notice something in her eyes when she looks at me. I notice some sense of familiarity in her gaze, almost like she knows me or something. But I have never seen her before in my life.
She turns and stretches her hand towards me while still maintaining her gentle smile.
“You must be Cassidy,” she says.
I release the suitcases I was pulling and shake her hand. She has quite the firm grip, she must be a supernatural being herself. I wonder what she is.
“I am, and you are?” I say.
“Cas,” Mom calls me and I glance at her in confusion. The lady only chuckles slightly before continuing.
“I am Headmistress Dowling, but everyone around here just calls me Miss D,”
“Oh sorry,” I say.
“No worries Cassidy Brenson, I would like to personally welcome you to Blueridge College for the Gifted, I have a feeling you and I will be getting to know each other a lot… feel most welcome,” she says.
That last part kinda sounded a little weird right? I mean, what would the Headmistress of a big college like this ever want with little old me? Anyway, I just pretend it meant nothing and engage her some more.
“Thank you Madam… so, do you always meet all your new students at the front door?” I ask.
Her smile broadens a little bit.
“Yes, whenever I can, of course. I like to develop a personal relationship with each of our students right from the first day when they enter through those gates,” she explains.
Mom and I look at each other and smile, before I turn to the Headmistress and continue..
“Hmm, I’m pleased to meet you Headmistress Dowling,” I say.
Just as I’m speaking, a man dressed in a sharp navy blue suit suddenly comes up to us and stands beside the Headmistress. He leans closer to try and whisper to her but I still hear what he says.
“Headmistress, the Royals are here.”
Just hearing that name “Royals” immediately reminds me of Prince Damian and that crazy eye contact moment that happened between us the night of the Alpha ceremony two days ago.
“Okay, Mrs. Brenson… Cassidy… this is my assistant Mark, he will show Cassidy to her room and introduce her to everything else here. I have to take care of another matter right now, but you can leave her now, she is safe in our care,” the Mistress says to Mom.
“No, I’m not leaving immediately. I want to see her room, that’s okay right?” Mom says.
“Absolutely Mrs. Brenson,” the Headmistress says and then turns to the man. “Show them inside Mark.”
“This way please,” he says to us, while Headmistress Dowling passes right beside me headed towards the gates behind us.
While Mom and I start following Mark towards the building, I can’t help but think why the royals would be here.
Wait, is Prince Damian enrolling into the College here too?
Just that thought alone puts a smile on my face and makes me turn around to look at the gates behind. That’s when I see the Royal entourage of black SUV’s with black tinted windows entering into the compound of the college.
When I see the cars entering, I remember that I may have messed up by staring at the Prince the other day, and so I hurry up forward and quickly disappear into the building with Mom and the assistant Mark.
