Confrontation

Mia kept quiet,her heart thundering erratically in her chest.
"When he arrived yesterday,he had prepared the proposal and everything ready to marry you but he was saddened to find out that you were engaged to his stepbrother but he didn't tell me anything afraid I might disclose his feelings to you", Mark explained.
Mark took a deep breath and continued."he drank all day long before I finally managed to get him to the hotel but then you two spent a night together under the influence of alcohol".
"He told you", Mia asked,he promised to keep it a secret.
"He didn't,I only found out this morning I saw you walking out of the room,I wanted to check on him if he was feeling better and ask him what occured yesterday, when I saw you exit the room I thought he had already proposed to you but I got the shock of my life when he told me you were already engaged Leonard", Mark explained.
He decided to let go but even so,he couldn't stop caring for you,he suspected someone set you up so he asked me to look into it,later I overheard Eddie and Leonard conversation,so now with all I've said can you understand?".
"So you're saying Eddie set me up to get together with Leonard,then . ."
"She can never get the footage, so don't worry", Mark replied assuringly.
"Why are you telling me this?".
"To open your eyes and think things through, whatever your decision is the ball is in your court Miss O'Connor", Mark concluded and left.
Mia sat there unmoving in the same spot shocked and confused,her eyes torn with conflicting emotions, the two news she just heard left her bemused.
Eddie and Leonard were cheating on her.
Lucian had always loved her.
The two issues weighed upon her,it was like a huge vortex whirling in her mind.
"Hello",she answered her beeping cellphone without checking the caller id.
"Sweetheart,am already downstairs", Leonard's voice woke her from her revire.
"Oh, I'm not at work,im at the restaurant nearby",she replied and stood up.
"Alright, I'll be there in a minute", Leonard replied affectionately.
Leonard soon arrived and she got in staring absently out of the window as the car moved through the traffic and towards the O'Connor residence.
"Good night sweetheart,I'll let you know when I get home"Leonard helped her out of the car, kissing her forehead.
"You should come in for a cup of coffee", Mia requested,she had decided to confront him and Eddie.
She couldn't believe they were cheating on her,she couldn't just sweep it under the rug and pretend that everything was okay,she deserves answers and she was going to get them.
"Sure"he replied and they both walked towards the main mansion.
She opened the door and sighted Eddie sprawled on the sofa,a packet of popcorn on the coffee table as she stared at the television.
"Welcome home sis", Eddie greeted excitedly to which Mia nod in acknowledgement.
"Where's father?", Mia asked.
"Aunt took him to the town for check-up", Eddie replied.
Her father was a stroke patient,her mother died when she was three afraid she'll be lonely and after being pestered by Mia he reluctantly got married to another lady who gave birth to Eddie, Eddie's mother also passed away few years ago since then it had been her, Eddie, their father and her aunt who had been overseeing the company in her stead.
"Okay", Mia sat down on the couch and kicked off her heels as she cleared her throat.
"There is something I would like to clarify", Mia's voice rang out in the silent room.
"Is something wrong, you seem off tonight?", Leonard asked.
"What's going on between you two?",she asked her voice shaking with anger.
"What do you mean?", Leonard asked and held her hands.
"Oh, pretending to be innocent,I mean this", Mia pulled her hands away from his and played the recording.
The two adulterous pair recoiled back in shock as the recording played, clear in the silent room .
"This . ."Eddie stammered.
"This is what?", Mia cut her off seething in anger."you were sleeping with my fiance behind my back, what a good sister you are".
"This is a setup Mia, the recording is faux", Leonard immediately regained his composure and replied."and I can't believe that you actually fell for this, for what reasons would I cheat on you, you are everything I want so why would I stoop so low to do such a thing moreso with Eddie".
"It must be Lucian who gave it to you right,I can't believe out enimity has gotten to this stage that he would actually try to defame me,is this what you think of me", Leonard replied lividly."I'm highly disappointed in you Mia".
"What. . .", Mia froze momentarily,she didn't think things through before confronting them, would Lucian do such a thing.
"He's bent on destroying me to exact revenge and you even believe him", Leonard shook his head in disappointment.
"This is nonsense,how could he go this far to demean someone and to think that you believe him is absolutely shameful", Eddie looked hurt,her lips tilted into a grin,she thought it was the end for them but Leonard actually managed to reverse the table accurately and convincingly.so smart.
Mia, caught in a tough spot tried to apologize,she couldn't believe Lucian actually involved her in their personal vendetta,he tricked her with just a fake voice recording and she fell straight into his trap.
"You're pathetic", Leonard spat and stormed out of the house in anger, Eddie also left for her room leaving her in the silent living room.
"Phew,that was a close call", Leonard sighed in relief as he entered the car."thank goodness I was able to retaliate immediately,now I have to bring my plan forward.
