“....She is going to serve the Alpha King. It seems he requires a...” He cleared his throat. “He’s willing to pay a lot of money.”
I took in heavy breath, as I leaned in closer to listen.
“I will not give my daughter to a curse Alpha!” My father, Gorge Miller. A beta that was demoted to an omega snarled at the Alpha of our pack.
I did not know the reason why, Alpha Argus demoted him. My parents never told me about it.
“Well...” Alpha Argus, the leader of our pack, Sliverfang Pack, was speaking to my father at the moment.
“I don’t think you have a say in this Gorge, you can’t challenge your Alpha and I have made the decision. I warned you before but you won’t listen.”
“That’s why you have to offer my daughter! Aria is my only daughter, I won’t allow her to be subjected to such a cruel fate.”
Alpha Argus laughed.
“Something nice to say about a corroner omega.”
“You can’t go against me Gorge, the decision has already been made. I was going to give you some money to live well, you are one of the poorest families in the pack.” He mocked.
“And whose fault was that?” My father chuckled bitterly.
“Aria is barely twenty, we agreed that she has to be twenty before you will take her away. It’s because of me, isn’t it? You doing this to get rid of me and my family,” I could feel the hatred laced in his voice as he talked with the Alpha.
“Have her ready by the morning, the warriors will come to take her. She graduated, didn’t she? I was gracious enough.” He chuckled.
“She’s only eighteen!” My father shouted.
I clenched my chest with a hand.
I felt warm hands covering my ears, I lifted my gaze and met the calm blue eyes of my mother. She smiled at me.
I sniffed.
“You don’t have to listen, Aria.”
“I wasn’t trying to, their voices were loud.” I lied, I knew something wasn’t right when I saw him coming to our house.
“When were you going to tell me? You knew that the Alpha was going to take me. Wasn’t it enough that he made Dad’s business collapse in the pack? Made us look an outcast?”
She shook her head at me.
“Aria!”
“When have you been eavesdropping on us?”
“So, it’s true.” I sniffed and blinked my eyes rapidly, pulled her hands away from my ears, and stepped away from her.
“Why?”
“Why do I have to be the one for them to give away? Why me Mother?” I screamed crying as I did.
“Because of me.” My father’s weak voice came from behind me. He walked towards us and took my hands in his calloused hands, he squeezed them gently.
“I’m sorry, Aria.” He took his lips in and stared at our hands.
“I will protect you.” His eyes glistened, my father used to be a powerful Beta beside the Alpha, but two years ago. We lost everything that we owned, and he lost his position as Beta.
“You can’t fight against the Alpha.” I whimpered. “You can’t fight against him father.” I cried.
He pulled me into his arms and stroked my hair affectionately. I heard his sniffs behind my ear and he kissed my hair.
“Promise me, Aria. You won’t be as weak as your father, go with your mother. No matter what happens tonight, don’t forget that, I, your father love you so much.” He disengaged from the hug and placed a kiss on my forehead.
“My pretty daughter, Aria.” He smiled which didn’t reach his eyes but was clothed with sadness, regrets, and sympathy.
“Here.” He placed a necklace on my neck.
“Don’t ever take it off.” He warned, and I nodded curtly at him.
“Happy birthday, daughter.” He blinked his eyes and nodded his head a few times.
“Father.” I started to cry.
He hugged me briefly and hurried out of the house as if he was being chased.
“Pack your bags! Hurry!” Mom yelled with her trembling voice.
“Take a few things that you are going to need.” She urged, taking a small box, and began hurling my clothes inside the box.
“Go, get ready. Aria!” She shouted and stood in front of me. “Change your clothes.”
I took off my dress immediately, stripping myself naked in front of her. Her eyes went over my bare skin with sadness, her eyes then fixed on the birthmark I have on my neck. She looked away and grabbed a pair of jeans from my wardrobe and gave them to me.
“Come on, wear them.”
I nodded curtly and took them.
“We need to leave the pack before dawn, it’s midnight and...” She exhaled and ran her hand through her hair.
“Mom, can you tell me what’s wrong?”
She blinked her eyes and turned towards me.
“I will explain everything once we leave the pack, You are too young to face whatever is coming. I don’t want you to be a sacrifice.” The tears escaped her eyes and rolled down her face. She wiped them off and nodded at me with a faux smile on her lips.
“We need to run. Aria.”
“Mom!” I half yelled.
“We would become rogues and we could get killed at any moment.” I don’t want to lose my parents because of these reckless decisions.
“You want to go to Dark Pack? Do you want to be a breeder? And die after you give birth? Do you want to get sold to him? The Alpha King of the empire!” She shouted and hit me over the cheek.
“Do you have any idea, the kind of man the Alpha King is?” She dabbed her eyes quickly with her hands.
The Alpha of Dark Pack was rumored to be a monster like his wolf, with red eyes that glow in the shadow. Powerful, and ill-mannered monster.
Those were the words I heard about him in school. Nobody got close to him, and whoever found themselves in the Dark Pack was deemed unlucky. He was a reckless killer, the cursed Daemon Wolf.
Jeema, Alpha Argus’s daughter always talked about him in school and how hellish the pack was for wolves like me. Wolf-less and worthless, and cheap.
My face twitched to the side, and I bit my lower lip taking the pain of my hurting cheek.
“Pack your bags! Now.”
“Trust me. Aria.”
“Mom...” I was holding my emotions in and stopping myself from breaking down.
She took the last box and went over to the truck and dropped them on it.
I was leaning at the door, staring at her with my hands folded.
“Get in the truck!”
I glanced around if I could see my father but he was nowhere in sight, After he left the house in the morning, he hadn’t returned.
“Now, Aria come on, hurry!”
