Chapter Five- Due Dilligence

Holly felt her heart begin to race to the point where it almost beat directly from her chest. As she watched Parker analyze the situation, he motioned for her to sit on the chair across his from the desk, but if she was going to do this, she was going to do this on her terms. "I would prefer to stand." She spoke in a confident tone, or at least as confident as she could, given the circumstances and effect he had on her. He looked to her, accepting the challenge and crossing his arms across his chest. Doing so had forced his muscles to bulge through his shirt, the fabric nearly ripping as he moved. "Alright, what is the reason I am graced with your presence?" He asked in a tone that was borderline condescending. "I wanted to apologize for how I acted the other night." "What do you mean?" He asked, wanting her to confess her fault aloud. "For treating your chauffeur the way that I did." "What was it you did to her exactly?" Holly c****d her jaw to the side, annoyed. "I was rude and I'm sorry." "What did you do that was rude?" Now letting out a sigh, Holly found this once charming form of questioning to now be aggravating as she set her hand on her hip. As the s****l tension grew between them, they moved closer together, having been close enough to kiss as he continued to question her. "I take it that the contract scared you?" He finally broke the arrogant comments and challenged her in his own way. "Perhaps if you would have waited to read it when I recommended…" "What would a few hours change?" He drew his touch to her cheek, pulling a large section of her hair back behind her ear before returning his palm to her skin. "Maybe I could have persuaded you to consider the contract in other ways…" as his tone changed to one to a more seductive and low cadence. She found herself incapable of forming the right words as she was torn between throwing herself against his lips or pulling back and showing he didn't affect her, even if she was dripping for him. “Perhaps if I had been allowed more time, I would have already lured you in.” “With what?” She now smirked, being able to use his annoying questioning tactic against him. He smiled, realizing what she was doing as he slowly nodded with approval before drawing himself back from her and moving to the other side of his desk. “I have a feeling you didn’t just come here to apologize…” He leaned forward on his elbows, just as he had done at the dinner a few nights before. “I must be transparent then…” His brows shot up momentarily before resuming to his analytic persona. He watched as she wet her lips with her tongue, her own nervous tick, that unbeknownst to her, drove him mad with lust. He smirked while watching her as she had taken a seat across from his desk, using the little strength she had on the chair as she pulled it forward towards his desk. Her knees touched against the mahogany exterior as it sent chills down her spine as she was surprised at to just how could it had been. He simpered towards her actions, finding her shudder to be adorable and an insight to her convulsing from his ability to make her writhe beneath him. She then cleared her throat when noticing he was in a daze while staring at her lips, bringing him back to reality with a corrected gaze. “What else can I do for you?” “I was thinking about it...the proposition…” “The contract?” She nodded. “If this were to be anything...I thought it wasn’t fair to at least not read it.” “You didn’t even read it?” He scoffed nervously, fearful that he had told her too much. “I skimmed it.” She confessed as he slowly nodded. He then removed the very contract he had handed to her that night from a desk drawer, still having her name written upon the front in its perfect calligraphy. “Just so I understand...what would be the ground terms?” He grinned, growing excited of her interest in his proposition and contract. “In exchange for me making sure your father gets the best care offered, you will agree to be mine, body and soul.” She looked to him, unsure what to make of his definition. When he noticed her troubled thoughts, he clarified further. “We will be exclusive to one another-getting what we want out of a relationship.” “That sounds like dating...why do we need a contract?” “Because doing what I do...there are a lot of things in my job that are dangerous or wanted by other companies. By signing that agreement, it’s a sort of promise that anything heard, witnessed, or felt during our time together stays between us.” She got chills as she heard him say “us” and her mind moved to the incredibly vivid fantasies her mind had conjured in a matter of seconds. She returned her focus to him after hearing her name called. He gave her another beam of his smile before pulling the first page of the contract to view. “I know contracts have a tendency to frighten people. I can assure you this is just a guideline for me.” “A guideline to what?” He looked to her surprised that she took such a tone with him. “What you have listed in there is making me sound like a s*x slave and the fact you are giving me money for it...makes me sound like a prostitute.” “Think of me more like an investor.” “Investing in what exactly?” “You.” This baffled her. She never really had the attention of anyone before, nevertheless someone like him. She was not used to the way he spoke or the way he acted around her as she grew more and more confused as to what stuck out about her, even as he had explained it before-she couldn’t bring herself to see herself as he had. “I am sure there are many things better suited for your money-” “Do I take it you aren’t interested in it then?” She let out a sigh. “What is troubling you about it?” “The things you want me to sign for are things I wouldn’t let my husband to do me….” His lips changed from their devilish contentment to fear, not realizing she had a prior commitment. “If I had one…” She continued her thought as he exhaled with relief. “You want me to allow you to hurt me...to own me…” “It’s more than that. It’s companionship. It’s exclusivity. It’s contracted.” “You make it sound like a business arrangement…” “It is. Just mixing the two things advised against; business and pleasure.” He flipped through the pages of the contract, trying to understand what could have scared her so deeply before finding a page of exclusive “no’s” that would be on her end. There were two sheets of checkable items and activities that she had to check if she didn’t agree to. “Why don’t you just date like a normal person?” “I wouldn’t find interesting people like you if I did.” The way he came back with such responses made her mind and heart...and lust confused. He spoke words with such sinister intentions but just like the snake to Eve, he was whispering for the things she already wondered how they tasted. She licked her lips again with nervousness as he clenched his jaw, wanting to pull her directly over the table and bend her over until she couldn’t walk out of his office. A thought that changed his troubled smirk into one of self-pleasure. “Take the contract and read it over. If you have any questions, just call me.” “Asking what certain things are can’t be done over the phone.” “Are you asking me out?” “I am simply whittling a compromise.” “Then where did you have in mind?” “Perhaps dinner again. Just not the same restaurant and please don’t buy it out.” His brows shot up. “You don’t care if others hear of our conversation?” “I think that’s a question better suited for you. I don’t have an empire to lose...you do.” He hesitated for a moment before moving from the back of his desk and towards her. He leaned on the front of the desk, arms crossed, while looking down to her with great focus. “The only thing I have to lose is my sanity in wondering “what if”. I can handle spiders, heartbreak...but what-if’s eat me alive.” “What if there was a night without the contract?” He looked at her with confusion. “I mean if we didn’t think about it, talk about it-” “That would be everyday after you sign it. Like I said, it’s a legality thing.” “You have in there that I have to be at your beck and call. A booty call...I could be in the middle of school and you call, I have to be there or you can sue me-” “Those are the specifics we have to adjust. There will be given times that I won’t disturb you.” “I just can’t wrap my head around why you don’t just go to a bar or Tinder, you would get any girl you want…” “The ones easy to get aren’t the ones worth keeping…” As he spoke this, it hit her like a ton of bricks coming down at once. It nearly took the oxygen from her lungs as she continued to look at him, hoping he would say something-but the silence just continued as their eyes remained locked. “When would you want a response?” She questioned as his usual mischievously empty eyes looked to her with an odd twinkle to them that was similar to that of a child-like wonder. “A week. It will give you enough time to look over anything, research it if you must, even call me to talk about it…” “I...I don’t have a cell phone.” He looked to her as if she just admitted to being a serial killer. His lips remained agape as he then chuckled. “You got me.” As she didn’t fall into his laughter, the then gave her a double take. “Are you serious? It’s 2019, how do you NOT have one?” “Everything went to my father’s medical bills. Even the apartment I’m staying in was gifted by a military friend of my father’s.” He studied her for a moment, feeling even more understanding of her low self-esteem before watching her eyes follow him as he pulled her up to him. “If this is going to work, you are going to have to get used to being complimented, spoiled, adored.” he carried his fingers beneath her chin as he spoke. He then brought his thumb to her bottom lip, pulling it from the top one just slightly as he then returned it to himself. “You will have to allow me to do those things…” She hesitated as he then let out a sigh, growing frustrated with her apprehension even as he understood it. “I can tell that I make you nervous...I like that I can...but I want to make you confident. I want you to feel as though you can make the call to me when you want me.” “Who says I do?” “The fact I can see your pulse racing on her chest.” His tone decreased to a fractured whisper as he found only silence to then fill the area between them. In an electrically charged moment, her fingers slid against his as she was rocking back and forth out of anxiousness-done slowly to where the feeling of their hands touching wouldn’t have been felt if not seen at first. In a split second, he pulled her into him, her body crashing against his toned physique as her cheeks were held by his palms and hers focused on his shoulders. She continued to hold onto him for dear life as she felt his kiss force every neuron in her body to fire on all cylinders. As if being in his presence wasn’t a moment that would take her breath away, the kiss certainly had. The kiss that held the potentially of being a gateway into s*x, but one that was also perfect to be a first one as it showed the desire of the other person. “What-what was that for?” “I had to try my investment.” He spoke seductively as she blushed. Feeling herself become unbearably aroused by this kiss and sensing he would take advantage of their time alone before she was ready, she moved to the door, with the contract in her hand. “I lied…” He spoke as she had the door halfway open with one foot already passing the threshold. “Make it twenty four hours….a week would simply kill me.” She nodded and left his office, feeling flustered as she found herself disoriented by his kiss as it simply took her off guard. However, it was the first night in years she spent where a smile remained on her face for more than a polite moment. It was one she meant as she touched her fingers gently upon her mouth, reliving the kiss as she made her way into her apartment and preparing to look over the contract.
