Chapter 10 – Feeling of a lecturer.

1918 Words
Olivia’s POV I felt a warm pair of hands wrap around my waist. The pain that plagued my body slowly reduced even though by just a few percent. Gradually, I opened my eyes to find the familiar pair of icy-blue eyes staring at me. His face was extremely close to mine, making me a tad uncomfortable. Though I had to admit, he was very handsome. I roamed my eyes around and realized that it was his arms that were around my waist. Terrified by his close proximity and hands on me, I struggled about to release myself from his grip. “Relax, I will let you go. Just stop struggling, woman!” he said, gritting his teeth slightly. It was at that moment that I realized how far to the edge of the bed I was and that he was holding me back with his arms, stopping me from falling to the floor. Panicked, I placed my palms flat on his chest. It was muscular and in fact, it was much more muscular in comparison to Fedrick’s. I used to do the same to his chest when I was fighting and struggling with him. “Are we good? Shall I release you now?” He slowly dragged me back to the center of the bed, but he forgot to release his arms from around my waist. I nodded and gave him the approval to let me go. Looking up, I noticed that his gaze was different. It was as if he was searching for something in my eyes. I pressed my lips together and gulped my saliva to wet my dry throat. Then, his eyes slowly moved to my lips and my swollen bruised lips parted at the same moment as he focused his gaze on my lips. Why is he looking at them like he is attracted to them? “Ahem.” I cleared my throat to wake him from his dream. “Oh…uhhh…” He quickly moved his arms away and stood up from the bed. I adjusted my duvet, pulled myself up, and leaned back against the headboard of the bed. “Can you tell me what happened? What was the reason you wrapped your arms around my waist and what was I doing at the edge of the bed?” I shot him a rain of questions. He exhaled sharply, “You were mumbling about your mom again and crying too. I think you sobbed and mumbled the whole night. In—” “Wait a minute, I mumbled all through the night? How do you know that? Wait, does that mean you were here for the entire night? What were you doing in this room—” “For god’s sake, can you shut your damn mouth for a minute until I finish explaining what happened?” he demanded in a deep voice. Arching my eyebrows at him, I shrugged my shoulders, “Fine. Go ahead.” “You were crying, sobbing, mumbling, and pleading for your mom. Some of what you said I understood, but some I didn’t. Then, a few minutes ago you were starting to struggle in bed like you were fighting with someone. You squirmed around until you were about to fall from the bed. You should thank me instead of yelling at me for catching you. I prevented you from falling on the ground and breaking your spine,” he complained with a wave of fake anger. His words made me recollect my dreams. I remembered dreaming about my mom and then, I saw how Fedrick tortured me as well as how mom was being beaten up by my so-called father. All that made me sob and when I was struggling with Fedrick in my dream, I unconsciously was struggling around in reality until I almost fell from the bed. “Okay, push that aside. Still, what were you doing in this room all alone with me?” I asked with a suspicious tone. “Listen, lady! Listen to me very carefully.” He sat on the bed next to me and flashed me a sharp glare that dug holes in my body. “I have no interest in you, okay? I have seen many women and they are more beautiful than you. I have slept with countless women. Females are not a special thing for me to glare at or keep as a trophy. I sleep with women who want to sleep with me and then I forget them. So, trust me, you are not my type. I am only keeping you here because you are holding some valuable information I need. As soon as I pull them out from you, you will be kicked out from here and you will never ever see my face again.” His demanding voice and shocking words echoed in my ears. His penetrating look into my eyes and his declaration about me as well as about women ran a shiver through my body. Goosebumps covered my arms and I gulped hard. My entire body froze in place as I recollected his words. His tone was harsh and I realized that perhaps women were like toys to them just like they were to Fedrick and his gang members. “A…are you going to sell me?” I asked, thinking back on how Fedrick trafficked women illegally. My ears still echoed with the screams, cries, and pleading voices of those innocent women. My heart started pounding and my breathing grew rapid. I clenched the bedsheet tightly and soon, my eyes filled with tears, blurring my vision. Through my hazy vision, I saw his face change from serious to concern. “Are you okay? You seem frightened.” He scooted closer to me. “T... ell me, ar... e you going to sell me too?” My voice was shaky and it came out as a mere whisper. “What? Who said that?” His forehead furrowed and the corner of his lips raised on one side, confused at my question. “You said just now t…that you are going to kick me out from here. I s…aw how Fedrick sold women to buyers,” I replied after gathering some courage. Speaking such bitter words, I realized that I was free from that life. But am I going to fall back into that life again? “Listen to me, okay? Yes, we are a mafia gang, but we do not have any dealings with human trafficking. That is our policy. Just because I said so, it doesn’t mean that I am going to sell you. What I meant was that you are free to go after you give me what I want,” he explained. “So you’re also a mafia gang? Are you also here to torture me?” I bit my lips to hide my moans, but the tears that filled my eyes started flowing down my cheeks before falling onto the duvet. Shaking his head, he moved even closer to me. I hugged my bended knees tightly in front of my chest in fear about what he was about to do. His gaze dug holes in my body as he scanned me from top to bottom. “Every mafia gang has its rules and policies. Our policy is not to torture any women or children as well as not to get involved in any businesses related to women and children. So, I can guarantee you that you will not get tortured by us. I will not allow anybody to lay a finger on you. You can trust me, besides…” he paused and pressed his lips together. I slowly raised my head to look at him. “Besides what?” I asked softly. “You are so naïve and innocent. I’ve seen many mafia wives who are more dangerous than their husbands. When women fall into the mafia life, they don’t have control, they don’t know how to handle their rage. How can you be so innocent and so immature? Are you acting or is this really how you are?” He held my shoulders and tilted his face to scan mine. Once again, our faces were a few centimeters away, making my breathing accelerate. Our eyes met for a few seconds before he slowly raised both his palms and cupped my cheeks. My eyes widened with disbelief and horror at what he was about to do, but all he did was wipe away my tears with his thumbs. Instead of fear, a feeling of warmth and safety started to flush into my hormones. I had never felt such feelings before especially after I died every day with fear in Fedrick’s territory. He was also a mafia, just like the man in front of me, but I started to feel different with Gabriel. Fedrick was a perfect as**ole and a god of torture while the man in front of me claimed to be a mafia but had empathy in his blood. “Hmmm…. tell me, who are you?” His soft voice started to draw me towards him. “I…I am just a simple girl who wants to live an independent life without getting into trouble anymore,” I replied. He parted his lips to say something, but someone knocked on the door, interrupting him. He stood up from the bed and my heartbeat returned to normal. He opened the door to see that it was a maid with a food tray. “Keep it here. Then, ask the nurse to come and check her,” he instructed the maid and shut the door. “I need to use the bathroom,” I said, desperate to relieve myself and wash my face. He walked toward me, “Come, I will take you.” “I think I can walk by myself. Besides, I can’t move every day in your arms. Eventually, I have to stand and walk by myself,” I refused, moving away from the duvet. Two-thirds of my body was covered with plasters and bandages, and my body was painted with scars and bruises that would remind me of Fedrick until the day I died. Looking at them, I sighed before slowly moving my feet to the ground and standing up. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The minute I stood up, I wobbled and was about to fall when he quickly held me in his arms and lifted me up. “Can’t even walk yet, but can give me lectures,” he cursed under his breath. A giggle escaped from my lips at his fake arrogant tone. “Why are you laughing? I am struggling here to make sure you get well soon, but you….” he said before trailing off and shaking his head. “Do you even know what’s the meaning of lecture? What kind of an atmosphere appears when a lecturer enters the lecture hall?” My tone turned sad as memories of my short university life filled my mind. I wanted to become a doctor one day and help poor people like my family who didn’t have financial support for medicine. Instead, my life was ruined by Fedrick. Gabriel scoffed at my words, “How would you know that? You became a mafia leader’s wife at such a young age and y—” “Don’t ever speak to me like that! You know nothing about my life!” I yelled at him. “Then, tell me about yourself! Let’s start with your name!”
