CHAPTER 7

“YOUR Majesty, we’ve done our investigation.” Imporma ni Ezra sa Alpha King. “The new people who arrived in our town are siblings and are orphans – well, that’s what humans thought. But, like werewolves, we could distinguish their scent. The elder sister is a werewolf – a rogue. And the younger sister is somewhat human.”

Kumunot ang nuo ni Lawrence. “Somewhat human? Anong ibig mong sabihin?” nagtatakang tanong niya. He was informed that two new people had arrived in town, and he immediately ordered his Gamma to investigate who those people were.

“The younger sister is not a werewolf, but she is not a human either.”

“Interesting.” Ani Cade. He looked at Ezra then clicked his tongue playfully. “Was she beautiful?”

Tumango si Ezra. “Yeah, extraordinarily beautiful, Beta.”

“Nice.” Malokong sabi ni Cade. He even whistled.

Lawrence, who heard what Cade said, didn’t sit him well, but he ignored it because he knew that Cade didn’t mean any harm, and looked at Ezra. “Continue to monitor them. Make sure that they are not a spy.”

Ezra bowed his head. “Yes, Your Majesty.”

Then Cade became serious, closed the folder in his hands, and reported to the Alpha King. “Your Majesty, we saw some of the bad hunters trying to invade the border, but I think they feared our pack, and they didn’t dare to go in.”

Nagtaka si Lawrence. “Why do they want to trespass on our pack?” tanong niya ng may pagtataka. “At hindi ba alam ni Cole na may mga bad hunters ang umaaligid rito?”

“I have already informed my brother, Your Majesty. But it seems that bad hunters wanted something. And also, we saw some vampires hovering outside our pack.”

Mas lalo pang nagtaka si Lawrence dahil sa sinabi ni Cade. “Vampires again?”

“I’m sorry, Your Majesty. But we did everything to strengthen the security of our pack.” Sabi ni Cade.

“Your Majesty, hindi ko alam kung dapat kong sabihin ito pero sasabihin ko pa rin. The day that the siblings arrived in our town, bad hunters and vampires were hovering outside our pack.” Ani Ezra. “I think we have to talk to the siblings.”

Tumayo si Lawrence saka humarap sa malaking bintana nasa kaniyang opisina. “Bad hunters? Vampires?” Kumuyom ang kamay niya. Hindi pa nila nahahanap ang lagusan ng mga bampira patungo sa mundo nila. Magdudulot na naman ba ang mga ito ng problema?

Lawrence opened the French window in his office. The cold breeze entered his office, then he sniffed a familiar scent. The scent almost drove him crazy. Sweet jasmine.

‘Lawrence, it’s our mate!’ Lucas exclaimed.

The Alpha King took a deep breath and closed his eyes. “Cade, tell Samuel and Isaac to monitor the border. Don’t let the bad hunters and those vampires infiltrate our pack. And tell Cole to deal with those bad hunters.”

Yumukod si Cade. “Yes, Your Majesty.

“Ezra, report to me when those siblings act suspicious.”

Ezra bowed. “Yes, Your Majesty.”

“You two are dismissed.”

Muling yumukod ang Beta at Gamma saka lumabas sa opisina ng Alpha King.

Lawrence cupped his chest. His heart was beating so fast. Sa mga sandaling ‘yon iniisip niya ang mate niya. Was she nearby?

He was about to jump out of the window when he felt a familiar presence enter the pack’s border. He groaned in frustration and went back to his swivel chair. Umupo siya at hinintay ang bisita niya.

A few minutes later, Josiah entered his office.

“Your Majesty.” Josiah greeted him with a bow.

Napabuga na lang ng hangin si Lawrence habang nakakunot ang kaniyang nuo. “Spare the formalities. Have a seat.”

“Are you okay?” Josiah asked. Napansin niyang iba ang mood ng Alpha King. “You looked different today.”

Umiling si Lawrence. “I’m okay. What is it?” he asked.

Josiah handed the Alpha King the folder. “Those are the list of the packs that are upright and just. And they are known for their righteousness and influence. You can pick any of them.”

Binuklat ni Lawrence ang folder. “Were these families from different countries?” he asked while reading the content.

“Oo. And they are supporting the crown – which was you.”

Napatango si Lawrence saka isinara ang folder. “I’ll review it later. But let me ask you, did you do this in secret? Ayaw ko na may kahit isa sa mga Council ang makaalam tungkol rito?”

“Huwag kang mag-alala, Lawrence. Pulido ang bawat galaw ko. Nasisiguro ko na walang alam ang mga Council sa mga pinaggagawa natin.” Seryosong saad ni Josiah. He, too, wanted to reform the Council. Sawa na sila sa pagdidikta ng Council sa kanilang mga gagawin. He is an Alpha, and he should not take orders from anyone except the Alpha King.

“Josiah, have you met your mate?” Lawrence asked all of a sudden, making Josiah look at him in shock.

“Your Majesty?” Josiah asked in disbelief. For the Alpha King to ask him something like that, he must have met his mate.

Lawrence sighed and shook his head. “Nothing.”

Ngumiti si Josiah. “Come on, Lawrence. It’s just me. Tell me.”

Lawrence sat on his swivel chair and looked at Josiah. “Did you already meet your mate?”

“No,” Josiah answered, then he chuckled. “You met your mate, right?”

Napabuga ng hangin si Lawrence. “Twice. Lucas already met her but hasn’t gotten to ask her name.”

Napatanga si Josiah. “Tell me the story.” Aniya. Umupo siya sa vistor’s chair. “What happened?” he asked.

Lawrence sighed heavily. “She disappeared when we first met, then the second time – it was Lucas who met her – then they fought the vampires together.”

Mas lalong napatanga si Josiah sa nalaman. “You – they what?”

Tumango si Lawrence. “So, I was thinking that my mate is not ordinary.”

“Human?”

Umiling si Lawrence. “She doesn’t smell like one.”

“Hunters?”

Umiling ulit si Lawrence. “I don’t know. I found her scent strange. Ngayon lamang ako naka-encounter ng kagaya niya.”

“If you met her, then you should find her. Para naman tigilan ka na ng mga Council. I heard that they will introduce the Queen they have found for you.” Nagkibit ng balikat si Josiah. “And she’s an Alpha’s daughter.”

Napabuga ng hangin si Lawrence. “Sumasakit na ang ulo k dahil sa mga rogue, vampires at mga bad hunters. Dumagdag pa ang mga Council na ‘yan.” Aniya saka sumandal sa kinauupuang swivel chair. “I wish them to all rest in peace.”

Tumawa ng mahina si Josiah.

Then a knock on the door grabbed their attention.

“Come in.”

The door opened and Cade entered. He bowed before he walked towards the Alpha King. “Your Majesty, these are all the reports that came from different Alpha’s all over the world.” He placed the piled-up folder on the Alpha King’s table.

Napailing naman si Josiah. “So, many.” Aniya. Then he clicked his tongue playfully. “Good luck, Your Majesty.”

Umalis na si Josiah at tanging naiwan lamang ay si Cade.

Lawrence started to read the reports. Maraming pack ang naninirahan sa iba’t-ibang panig ng mundo kaya marami siyang nirereview na mga report kapag patapos na ang bawat buwan. He was thinking of a solution to how to address this problem. On every continent, there are ten to fifteen packs. And all of these packs will be directly reported to him. Of course, he will send his feedback.

While looking at the piled-up reports, an idea came into his mind. He looked at Cade. “Give me all the names of the pack and all the Alphas on every continent.”

Naguluhan naman si Cade. “All of them, Alpha King? That many?”

Tumango si Lawrence. “Is one week enough?”

Yumukod si Cade. “Yes, Your Majesty.”

“Okay.” Lawrence went back reviewing the piled-up reports in his table. Wala ng bago tungkol sa mga rogue at hunters na laging kalaban ng lahat ng pack sa buong mundo. Pero wala namang nakalagay sa mga report tungkol sa mga bampira. Ibig sabihin no’n ay dito pa lang sa bansa nila mayroon ang mga bampira.

IT’S BEEN one week since Blythe and Brianna moved to another town. And every day, Blythe felt someone watching her movements.

“It’s probably the pack in this town. I do not belong to any pack, and they see me as their enemy.” Sabi ni Brianna habang kumakain silang magkapatid.

“Pack?”

Tumango si Brianna. “The pack was run by an Alpha and a Luna. Alpha and Luna are the leaders of the pack. I felt the border when we entered here, so they must know our presence, but as long as we don’t do anything to them, and we won’t harm anyone, they won’t do anything to us.” Aniya. “Maybe they were monitoring us.”

“Oh.” Nasabi na lamang ni Blythe at napatango. Iniisp niyang may ganun pala. Nagkibit na lamang siya ng balikat saka nagpatuloy sa pagkain. Wala na siyang pakialam sa ibang bagay tungkol sa mga lobo dahil hindi naman siya lobo.

“Ate, are we going to stay here for good?” Blythe asked.

Umiling si Brianna. “Hindi tayo mananatili rito.” She sighed. “If we could only fight our enemies, we would. But we both knew that if we did that, we would both die. We won’t die, Blythe.”

Tumango si Blythe. Alam niya kung bakit hindi sila pwedeng mamatay na magkapatid. Dahil hahanapin pa nila ang mga taong pumatay sa magulang nila. Only if they could fight them, but they knew that they still needed to train to be a skillful warrior.

Napabuntong hininga na lang si Blythe at hinugasan ang mga nagamit nilang pinggan, baso, at kutsara pagkatapos nilang kumain. Then she felt those eyes looking at her. She finished washing the dishes then went to her room. Her brother is in the living room and doing something.

Blythe drew out her sword and sharpens it. Hindi pa man siya gano’n kagaling sa pakikipaglaban pero sapat na ang alam niya upang protektahan ang kaniyang sarili. At katulad ng kaniyang kapatid, kailangan pa niyang magsanay ng magsanay.

Habang hinahasa niya ang kaniyang espada, naramdaman niya ang masamang ihip ng hangin na pumasok sa kaniyang kwarto. Ibinaba niya ang kaniyang espada saka nilapitan ang bintanang nakabukas. Tumingin siya sa labas at hindi sinasadyang napatingin siya sa malayo. Napasinghap siya at nagulat nang makita ang isang bampira na nakatingin sa kaniya. Napaatras si Blythe at mabilis na isinara ang bintana. Kinuha niya ang kaniyang espada at patakbong lumabas ng kwarto. At the same time, her brother came running towards her.

“Hunters.”

“Vampires.”

They both said at the same time.

Then they both felt the vibration of the house and, at the same time, they heard a loud explosion.

Nakita na lamang ng magkapatid na nasira ang kalahati ng kanilang apartment.

“Damn!” Brianna cussed and held her sister’s hand. “Let’s go! We can’t fight them, Blythe. Let’s run away! Now!”

Sa tingin si Brianna sa kagustuhan ng mga itong makuha siya o ang kapatid niya, binalewala na ng mga ito ang pack border ng pack na kinaroroonan nila. The enemies’ trespass and trying to catch them. But how the hell did they trespass the border of this pack?

Napailing si Brianna. Hindi na ‘yon mahalaga. Ang mahalaga sa ngayon ay makatakas silang dalawa ng kapatid niya. Kapag nahuli sila ng mga taong gustong kumuha sa kanila, wala ng kasiguruhan na makakatakas pa sila.

As Brianna and Blythe ran away from their enemies, they heard another explosion.

Lumingon si Blythe at nakita niya ang pagkasira ng kanilang apartment. Gusto niyang lumaban pero alam niyang sa mga oras na ‘yon wala pa siyang laban. Sa dami ba naman ng mga sumusunod sa kanila.

Brianna quickly held Blythe’s arm and put her on her back.

“Hold onto me!”

Humawak si Blythe sa kaniyang kapatid ng mahigpit habang ito naman ay tumatakbo ng mabilis. Ramdam ni Blythe ang malakas na hangin na tumatama sa kanila at naririnig niya ang mga yabag na sumusunod sa kanila.

Brianna pushed her feet to run faster. She ran into the woods with her sister on her back. He was running fast until something hit her. She stumbled and rolled on the ground. Nabitawan niya rin ang kapatid niya.

But Blythe made a quick movement, she disappeared and appeared beside her sister. Tinulungan niya itong tumayo. Muli sana silang tatakbo nang may humarang sa kanilang daraanan.

“Vampire…” Blythe muttered under her breath.

“Hunters…” Brianna muttered when she saw the hunters behind them.

Humigpit ang hawak ni Blythe sa espada.

“Huwag na kayong tumakbo! Wala na kayong kawala.” Saad ng isang hunter.

Tumaas ang sulok ng labi ni Brianna. “Hindi ‘yon mangyayari.” Saad niya. Hinawakan niya ang kamay ng kapatid. “Blythe, whatever happens today. Remember that you should be strong. Life is not about revenge and hatred. You must live happily, okay?”

“Ate?” Hindi alam ni Blythe kung ano ang isasagot niya sa kapatid niya.

The vampire growled.

“We want the girl.” Said one of the vampires.

“And we want the werewolf.” Saad naman ng isang hunter.

Nahati sa dalawang panig ang gustong kumuha kay Brianna at Blythe.

Pinisil ni Blythe ang kamay ng kapatid. “Ate, siblings until death. Matatakasan rin natin sila. Lumaban tayo, Ate. Huwag mo akong iwan mag-isa. It was scary to live alone.”

Brianna looked at her sister. She smiled and nodded. “Okay.”

Alam ni Brianna na batid ng mga hunters na gustong kumuha sa kaniya na isa siyang hybrid. They wanted to experiment with her. Her parents died to save her, and she won’t let these bad hunters take her. Hindi niya sasayangin ang sakripisyong ginawa ng kaniyang magulang para mailigtas at mabuhay siya.

Habang si Blythe naman sa mga oras na ‘yon iniisip niyang hindi pa niya nakikita ang kaniyang ina at hindi pa niya nahahanap ang bampirang pumatay sa kaniyang ama. Humigpit ang hawak niya sa kaniyang espada.

Brianna and Blythe are facing each other’s backs. Brianna was facing the hunters while Blythe was facing the vampires.

“Little girl, come with us, and you will live.” Saad ng isang bampira.

“Brianna Davis, come with us.” Saad naman ng isang hunter.

The siblings knew that they wouldn’t live once they were in their enemies' hands, so they did everything to escape even if it was impossible.

Blythe cast a spell. An invisible vine connected to their wrist. Brianna felt it.

‘Ate, let’s separate but don’t get caught.’

Brianna trusted her sister so she nodded.

“Take her!”

“Get her!”

As the enemy took action, the siblings took action also and ran away in the opposite direction.

“Damn! The girl!”

“Habulin niyo siya!”

The commotion could be heard from the two teams as they ran after their target.

Habang tumatakbo si Brianna, nakikipaglaban siya sa mga hunters. But the hunter’s weapon is now advanced. Mabuti na lang at may dugo siyang Diwata dahil kung wala ay baka kanina pa siya nanghina dahil sa mga sandata ng mga kalaban niya. She was now full of bruises from the silver swords and bullets of the hunters.

Brianna clicked her tongue as she threw the dagger. She was holding onto one of the hunters chasing her. Naagaw niya ito kanina sa isang hunter na nakalaban niya. Nainis naman ang isang hunter kaya kahit sinabihan sila ng pinuno nila na huwag sasaktan ang target at dahil nila ito sa kanilang pinuno na walang sugat, binaril niya ito. Isa sa mga kasamahan niya ang napatay ng hinahabol nilang taong-lobo at hindi nila mahuli-huli. Masyado na sila nitong pinahirapan.

The sound of a gunshot stopped Brianna from running, and she dropped to the ground. She clutched her chest and saw the blood.

She heard the sound of the waves and saw the cliff. She looked back and saw the hunters approaching. Tiniis ni Brianna ang sakit ng tama ng baril na tumama sa kaniyang dibdib. Sa umiikot niyang paningin… she pushed herself to stand up and walk towards the cliff and the corner of her lips tugged up. She faced the hunters before she closed her eyes and let herself fall onto the cliff. As her body hit the water, she lost consciousness.

Meanwhile, Blythe’s sword was coated with blood. And she was also coated with blood. Pagod na siyang lumaban sa mga bampira. Malalakas ang mga ito at kakaiba ang kanilang liksi. Hindi naman niya maaaring gamitin ang kapangyarihan niya sa kidlat dahil siguradong manghihina siya. Ang paggamit niya ng kapangyarihan niyang ‘yon ay may limitasyon at inuubos ang kaniyang lakas.

As she fought for her life, the vampires looked like they were livid and wanted to kill her. Tatlo na kasi ang napatay niya sa mga ito at lahat ng mga ‘yon ay nagilitan niya sa leeg. Hindi binitawan ni Blythe ang kaniyang espada kahit na anong mangyari. Ito lamang ang kaniyang armas laban sa mga bampira.

Pero ramdam niya ang pagod niya sa kaniyang pagtakbo at pakikipaglaban. Hindi namalayan ni Blythe na malapit na pala siya sa bangin.

“Pinahirapan mo kami, Diwata!”

Alam nila ang tungkol sa amin? Faye?! Blythe tried to Faye but Faye didn’t respond.

Instead, she felt someone strangled her. Hindi niya namalayan ang isang bampira na mabilis na lumapit sa kaniya at sinakal siya. Inangat siya ng bampira at itinapat sa may bangin. Nabitawan ni Blythe ang hawak na espada saka hinawakan ang kamay ng bampirang nakasakal sa kaniya. She was losing oxygen.

“The king said, they want the Nymph alive. Mas sariwa at mas masarap daw ang dugo kapag buhay siya.”

“Alive?” the vampire who were strangling Blythe clicked his tongue. “Pinatay niya ang tatlo nating kasamahan. Kailangan niya ring mamatay!”

The vampire is ready to end Blythe’s life, but at the critical moment, Blythe thinks that it is her end, but Faye appears and helps Blythe. Faye killed the vampire using her power, but the vampire dropped Blythe on the cliff. Faye disappeared and entered Blythe’s body.

Nahulog ang katawan ni Blythe sa bangin at sa ilalim ng bangin na ‘yon ay mga matutulis na bato at malakas na hampas ng tubig ng karagatan ang humahampas sa mga batuhan. Tumama ang katawan ni Blythe sa tubig at lumubog ang kaniyang katawan.

Then Blythe blacked out.
