Chapter Eight

1289 Words
Freya got an overly excited Raven back to the coven house. She ran into the house, "Gammy, Pop pop, there was two! I was right!" she yelled excited into the entry way.      It took all of Freya's will power not to laugh all out at her niece. Even she was excited to have two new babies in the house.      Amelia and Jakob, came out of the kitchen to find a very sticky and tired looking Raven, along with a clearly exhausted Freya. "We know we just saw them on the video chat." Amelia said her calm voice betraying how happy she was at the two new additions. Jakob just stood there smiling.      "Let's get you upstairs and bathed. You look like you had a fun day." Amelia said taking Raven and guiding her up the stairs to get her cleaned up. "Then we can have dinner. How does that sound?"      "MM yummy can we have hot dogs?" Raven asked as they ascended the stairs, she was doing her best to not sound tired.      "How about for lunch tomorrow? I already made fish for dinner." Amelia said to her granddaughter.      "OH yes. I love when you make fish!".     Jakob took one look at his daughter and arched an eyebrow."She is so full of energy, isn't she?" he asked as he made his way to the sofa.      Freya knew what was coming next. "Not today, dad. I am still going to fight fires, as a matter of fact. I have a shift over there tonight." She was tired of this conversation. He didn't like her being there, but she knew she had to be. She didn't mind the crude behavior of the men and now that most of their wives realized she didn't want their men, she had a great friendship with many of them.      He sighed, " Freya, I just feel like a princess shouldn't be out there doing grunt work."      Freya rolled her eyes at the statement." Well, dad, it's not like I advertise I'm a princess and what would like me to do? Sit on my ass like Snow White or Sleeping Beauty and wait for some "Prince Charming" to come to my rescue? Sorry to be the one to inform you but I'm not waiting for some one to come slay a dragon for me." she said with that she turned on her heel and went upstairs. She had to get ready to go to the station and a bathing suit wouldn't cut it.      Jakob stared at the back of his departing daughter shaking his head. He knew she was a strong young woman and that he couldn't keep her safe forever. He was just afraid of losing her forever.      Freya left for the station shortly after dinner, kissing her parents and her niece. She promised to be back as soon as her shift was over. It was coming on a weekend so she would be pulling at least a twenty four hour shift. So she packed her bag with what she would need for the next day. She was sad she wouldn't be able to get to the hospital to see the babies, but she would get to snuggle with them soon enough.      "Are you gonna help the brokeded dragon?" Raven asked as Freya was almost out the door. This caused Freya to turn and look at her.      Amelia and Jakob looked at each other then to Freya.      Amelia was the first to correct the word, " It's broken Raven, and who are you calling a dragon? That's not very nice."      "Raven, honey I don't think I'll see him again. But if he needs help while I'm working, you know I will. That's my job."      This answer satisfied her niece ,"Okay good, love you Aunt Freya. See you 'morrow" she said as she cuddled on the sofa, her eyes were finally slowly drifting closed after all the excitement of the day.      Freya left quietly, thankful that her niece fell asleep, that meant her parents couldn't question her about Alev. The thought of him did bring a smile to her face, making her wonder if she did the same for him.      Jakob smiled at the sleeping child as he bent down to scoop her up, cradling her small body. She was mumbling in her sleep about matching heart fires. He was curious about that, but knew he would have to wait to speak to Circe about it.      ***********     Freya got to the fire house and greeted the crew that was there. Thankful for the fact that Abigor wasn't there. Something just never sat right with her when he was around. Sure he was handsome, supposedly single and he really wanted to see her outside of the firehouse. She on the other hand didn't want anything to do with him. He some how always manages to finagle his way into situations with her.      "Hey, Freya, you just missed Abigor." Justin said. He was one of the human fire fighters that didn't know she was a witch. So many times, he really misses the mark.       "That's not a bad thing, Justin. But thank you. I had a really long day at the beach with Raven. Esmy went into labor today."      "Awe, she had the baby?Congratulations!" he said as turned to the pot on the stove. He was a fantastic cook and she was almost sorry she ate before she got here today.      "Actually, two of them. Runa is really small compared to Easton, he was hiding her apparently." she explained. Justin's eyes bulged at the statement.      "Are they all okay?" he asked. He had heard that when that happens it could be bad for the smaller baby.      "They are going to be kept for a day or two extra to be sure. But they should be fine. I'll send Bodhi and Esmy your love." she said as she turned to the bunk room. "But I am going to bed."      "But you're gonna miss my famous chicken and dumplings!" he mock complained.      "I already ate, man. I'm sorry it smells amazing though!" she said as she continued to the bunk room.      She threw her stuff into her locker after taking out her t shirt and shorts to sleep in and the sweet dreams potion from Dreamers. She applied the sweet smelling oil to her temples, hoping for a quiet night. And now knowing that Abigor will be back, made her uneasy. She took a lower bunk, not feeling like climbing the three rungs to an upper bunk. She laid her head on the pillow allowing the sweet rose and vanilla to relax her. Hopefully putting her into a deep sleep. As she drifted off, her mind began to take her to the handsome man she spent the afternoon with. His amber eyes calling her back to him, like a siren song. Why was he so broken, she wondered.          *****     Alev's sleeping subconscious took him back to the boardwalk and the striking raven haired beauty he met there today. He could get lost in the depths of the emerald green eyes. Her body was something to admired, the strength and softness wanting him to touch every part. He woke with a start, he shook the thoughts from his head.      He knew he would have to fight the pull of wanting a mate. Especially with someone as striking as her, she deserved someone so much better than him. He would go tomorrow to the fire house, talk to the chief and leave, before he would do something he would regret.
