Tessa’s POV
Tristan left me to spend the rest of the day in the quiet room while I sorted out the new information I had just learned. During my stay there, I had contemplated going back to my house but something stopped me. The sheer luxury in the palace, and all of the gifts that just kept coming into the room made me glad that I didn’t leave. There were so many roses, so many clothes, and a letter that told me that he was going to be with me shortly.
He was the future alpha of the pack and soon, his father was going to abdicate which meant that he was going to be crowned soon. I understood that he might not have time to be with me all of the time until he was crowned. It made me so happy that I didn’t even recognize my life anymore. I fell asleep with a smile on my face and the next morning, I woke up to the smell of fresh breakfast by my side. My mouth watered as my eyes fluttered up and I glanced at the food beside me.
I couldn’t remember the last time I ate breakfast because I usually saved up to get a proper meal for dinner. My body was already used to it. I almost forgot about my current situation until I raised my eyes up to see Tristan standing by the bed with a smile on his face. My eyes traced his beautiful hard features. From his golden brown skin, to his light green eyes and his crimson lips. He was so perfect.
“Good morning, Tessa,” he greeted. “I brought you breakfast. I brought dinner yesterday but when I came I realised that you were asleep so I tucked you in and left.” He added.
My stomach fluttered. This was the first time someone was taking care of me. It was the first time that anyone showed me true kindness. My parents were banished out of the pack immediately after I had been given birth too. I was taken to different orphanages and after I had turned sixteen and no family had adopted me, they moved me out and found me an abandoned house to stay in.
They usually did that with all the kids that didn't get adopted because they needed space for the younger ones that had been brought in. They found me a gardening job in the palace’s backyard. No one really knew me except for the butler in the house because I always kept my head low. I couldn’t afford to mess up the only job that was feeding me and was paying my bills.
“Thank you.” I smiled at him before I got up to sit down.
“I had everything arranged for you here. I am going to move you into the palace soon.” He explained.
“Already?” I raised a brow.
He nodded, “You are my mate, Tessa. I am not going to allow you to be anywhere else but here. We also need to be close so we can get to know each other.” He answered.
I nodded in agreement.
“Okay. I am going to allow you to get ready for school. I will be outside, waiting for you in my car.” He said, stretching his hand to touch mine. His touch was delicate and soft as he ran his thumb over my skin before he left the room.
It was the first time I was ever getting into a car. Only the privileged got to have these kinds of luxuries in the pack. I carried the tray and placed it in front of me before I dug into the food, savouring the taste of it. When I was done, my stomach was full. I got into the bathroom and just like Tristan said, there was everything in place for me to use.
I took a quick bath and when I came out, I picked up a simple shirt and jeans and wore them. I brushed my hair with my fingers before I picked up my backpack. It was old, but I didn't have to worry about that anymore because Tristan would probably get me a new one before the day ended. I headed outside of the palace and in front of it, he was seated in his car waiting for me.
I couldn’t believe that he was my mate. It felt like a dream, but it was one I wanted to stay in forever. If he was my mate, then my life would have changed forever. I might not feel the mate bond yet, but I knew it was going to be soon because I was going to be eighteen in a few months.
Tristan was nineteen, so it was why he already felt the connection to me. I strode to the car and got in. He gave me a warm smile when I got in before he spoke.
“You look very beautiful.” He complimented me.
I felt blood rushing to my cheeks, “Thank you.”
The rest of the drive to school was silent. I expected Tristan to ask me more about myself, but I got nothing. He was lost in his own world until we got to school, and he parked in his designated parking spot. I had only come to this place once and the only time I did, I was bullied senselessly. It was when I decided that I didn't want to come here again. I thought maybe he sensed my fear because he turned to face me.
“You have nothing to worry about.” He assured me.
I nodded, even though I didn't believe him. I had everything to be worried about. The kids in this school were never going to stop ridiculing me. I have always been called the w***e of the pack since they found me in a room with someone, which was a prank they had played on me. It took a toll on my mental health so badly, and no one was there for me.
