Jackson “Want to tell me what happened?” I asked Sarah as we walked side by side to her room. She shrugged as we got to her room and she opened the door. I followed her in, dropping into the chair at her desk as she went to her bathroom and got changed into pajamas. Coming out she flicked my ear as she passed and crawled into her covers. “They called me a whore.” She sighed and I chuckled. “You beat that boy up for calling you a name?” “No I beat his ass for calling me a w***e when I rejected him.” She shot me a pointed look. “Why do boys do that? A girl says no and they immediately start calling her names? That will definitely get a girl to drop her panties for you.” “ I think you were really fired up about Elyse and anything that boy said was going to set you off.” I pointed out. “And why shouldn’t I be fired up?” She sat up glaring at me, folding her arms across her chest. “Daddy’s going to marry her off to a man she doesnt love and then one day he will do the same to me.” “You don’t know how she feels.” I interrupted. “She coulnd’t possibly love him.” She launched a pillow at me and i caught it from the air. “You don’t know that.” I reiterated. “He’s not her mate!” She shouted in frustration and I furrowed my brow in confusion. “Sarah does our sister know who her mate is?” This was the first I heard Sarah mention anything about the mate bond and I was intrigued. “Nevermind.” She grumbled, turning her head to stare out of the window, but I wasn’t letting it go. “Sarah does Elyse know who her mate is?” I insisted and she kept her eyes glued to the window, only nodding her head slightly. “Who?” I asked but she shook her head. “Sarah.” I prodded and she turned and glared at me once more. “Jackson Daniel I will not tell you. I shouldn’t have told you this much. If you want to know, you can ask her. Now I believe our father sent me to bed.” She slid down into her comforter and turned onto her side, yanking the blanket over her head. Knowing she was’nt going to talk anymore I tossed her pillow ontot he bed next to her. “Good night little weirdo.” I said as I headed out. “Good night freak!” She shouted as I closed the door laughing. Heading back to the party I discovered it was breaking up, mother standing at the door wishing farewell to people as they left. I looked around but couldn’t find my sister or her fiance. I peeked into the ballroom and spotted her fiance speaking to our father but backed out before they could notice me. Checking the other rooms I finally found her tucked in the library, a glass of wine in her hand, watching the rain through the window. “Elyse.” I said taking a seat across from her. “Hey big brother.” She responded, never taking her eyes from the window. “So David seemse nice.” I commented and she snorted. “Sure he’s nice. He’s rich and rich and an alpha, what more could I need right?” She took a drink from her glass before turning to look at me, tears shining on her face. “Oh Elyse.” “No don’t feel sorry for me. This is my job, my responsibility.” She wiped her face. “Mother and Father are so proud.” “You don’t have to do this.” I tried to soothe but she shook her head. “Yes I do. We have to strengthen the pack.” “To what end? Our pack is one of the biggest around. How much stronger do we need it to be? Beside that, why can’t we just have normal peace treaties. No need to marry you off to an old man.” “He is really old.” She began to laugh and her laughter sent me into my own. “What if he can’t even give me children?” She said between laughter. “Why would you want to try?” I muttered in disgust sending her into more laughter. “Oh Goddess Im going to have to suck old dick.” She shrieked in laughter. “Well that is not an image I wanted, thanks for that.” I rolled my eyes as she continued howling with laughter. She took another swig of wine as she caught her breath. “Elyse I was talking to Sarah and she said you know who your mate is.” She smile faded from her face as face hardened. “Sarah needs to stop talking so much.” She murmured as she finished her glass of wine, setting the empty glass on the table. “If we explained to father maybe he can change things. He understands how important the mate bond is to us.” I faded out as she laughed dryly, her eyes locking onto mine. “You really don’t know anything about our parents do you?” I looked at her as she continued “They aren’t mates. They rejected their mate bond, in order to marry one another. Know why?” She waieted for me to comprehend. “To join packs.” I answered quietly and she nodded. “Father is just doing what his father did. So we are just repeating the cycle.” She went quiet for a moment before standing up, stumbling a little bit as she made her way to the door. “I’m tired.” She said as she passed me, patting me on the shoulder. “You should head to bed too.” I grabbed her wrist for a moment and looked up at her. “Is it someone in this pack?” A single tear rolled down her cheek and she quickly wiped it away. “It doesnt matter. I already rejected him.” She pulled her arm out of my hand and left me alone in the library. I made my way up to my room, ditching my clothes in the same pile I had tossed earliers in and crawled into my bed. I laid on my back, staring at the ceiling. Thunder rumbled outside and I closed my eyes as the sound of rain hitting the window intensified. I began to think of her, recalling that night in her hotel. “It’s Marissa.” she said sighing in frustration before stepping past me and into a portal. I stared at the other side, too stunned to move, and suddenly she was gone and I was alone. A floral scent I didn’t recognize lingered and my wolf grumbled at the loss of her. Turning to my side I imagined her not leaving me alone, but instead falling into my arms, letting me bury my face in her hair and in hale her scent. I wanted to bury more than my face in her, wishing she had stayed. The way touching her sent sparks through me was the greatest pleasure I had ever experience and I wanetd more, I needed more. “How can I crave someone I’ve barely met.” I wondered. “She is our mate.” My wolf answered, already in love with her. I didn’t answer him as slepp began to pull me under, dreams of her keeping me there all night. The morning came early and I dragged myself out of bed, throwing on shorts and a t shirt before heading down to the kitchen for coffee. Sarah was sitting on a bar stool, staring into her own cup of coffe as I poured one for myself and sat beside her. “Rough night?” I nudged her and she grumbled at me. “Same.” I took a sip of my coffee and we sat together in silence. “I spoke to Elyse.” Her head shot up and she looked at me wide eyed. “Did you tell her I told you?” She demanded and I shook my head. “You did! Jackson Daniel!” She shouted punching me in the arm. “She will never talk to me again!” “Tell me something, why is it that you middle name me more than my own mother?” I teased as she drank her coffee angrily. “Probably because your mother is busy middle naming Sarah.” Michael walked in getting his own coffee and leaned against the counter sipping it. “So Elyse is getting married.” He murmured to himself as he drank his coffee. “Yeah.” Sarah muttered and silence fell between us for a minute before she spoke up again. “David is like a hundred years old.” She said scrunching her face in horrror. “I think he’s like fifty.” Micheal replied earning a glare. “Which is still gross! She is going to have to suck old dick.” Michael choked on his coffee. “For the love of..I am going for a run.” I declare standing up and pouring the last of my coffee down the drain. “Don’t act like you don’t like getting yours sucked!” She shouted after me. I shook my head as I headed outside. Stopping I looked out across the lawn and spotted Elyse walking with David. Michael stepped out beside me, noticing them as well. “She is a fiery one that Sarah.” He commented. “Any room for one more on your run?” He asked and I nodded as we turned down the driveway, making our way to the woods down the road. We stripped out of our clothing and shifted to our wolves, his tan wolf almost as large as my white, and let our wolves take over, running into the tree line. I loved sitting back and letting my wolf take charge, outpacing Michael’s by several feet. As we ran I let my mind wonder to her, her smile, her blue eyes, her scent. I missed her and I had no idea how to find her. We ran for over an hour, dodging low hanging branches and tearing through the underbrush. We came a clearing and stopped abruptly, my wolf backing off and lowering himself, a low growl rumbling through his chest. I paid attention to what was making him nervous and was shocked to see a fight taking place in front of us. Several men who were dressed like the ones who ambushed us were fighting with a group of women and my heart stopped when I noticed her at the far edge, her brown hair flying in the wind, and blood streaking down her face.
