____________________ . . . "Boo!" June jumped, clutching her chest as she turned around in her seat. It was past eight and it was only her and Heath in the office. Heath let out a laugh. "Gotcha!" June took a deep breath, trying to slow her racing heart. "You scared me," she said, trying to keep the irritation out of her voice. Heath's grin was unrepentant as he parked his butt on her desk. "Couldn't resist," he said, his eyes dancing with mischief. "You've been working so hard, I thought you could use a little excitement." June couldn't help but roll her eyes. "I've got enough excitement with the conference preparations, thank you." Heath leaned closer, his expression growing serious. "June, you're doing an amazing job. I couldn't have pulled this off without you." "Does that mean I don't owe you one anymore?" June wiggled her eyebrows. Heath's eyes sparkled with amusement. "I'm not letting you off that easily," he said, his voice low and suggestive. "I will take what I want from you, darling. But trust me, you will be more than willing to give it to me." June felt a shiver run down her spine. She had to keep her cool. This was just a flirtatious game to him, she reminded herself. "Heath," she said firmly, "we're still in the office." "Like that has stopped us before!" He reminded her of the way she sucked him off last week. June felt a blush creep up her neck. "We need to focus on the upcoming conference," she said, turning back to her laptop. "We just wrapped up a board meeting. Do we really need to prepare for this conference right now?" June's gaze snapped to Heath. "You're the one who set these high expectations for yourself," she reminded him. "The conference is in three days. We need to make sure everything is perfect." Heath's smile grew wider. "Perfection is a subjective term, June. Besides, we've got the Alex Romano endorsement in the bag. The rest will fall into place." He did not like the celebrity anywhere near his woman but that did not mean that he was not happy with him accepting their proposal. June sighed, her eyes never leaving the screen. "It's not just about the endorsement. We have to wow the investors, and show them that we're capable of taking this company to the next level." Heath rolled his eyes and closed her laptop. "That's enough work for tonight. Let's go to my place." June's stomach flipped. "You can't just ignore your responsibilities," she protested, trying to keep her voice even. "The conference is in three days!" "And we've got everything under control," Heath countered, his tone infused with the same confidence that had won over the board members earlier that day. "You're such a workaholic, June!" "And you're such a procrastinator!" June shot back, her eyes narrowing. "We can't rely on charm alone to save this company." Heath's smile didn't waver. "Oh, I'm not relying on charm alone, I have many other tricks up my sleeve," he said, his voice dropping to a purr. "But baby, we should really go home. I have so much planned out to celebrate our success today!" "We can't just leave," she said, trying to sound firm. "We have so much to do." Heath raised an eyebrow. "Is that your way of saying you don't want to come over?" June sighed, pushing her chair back. "You know it's not. But we have a job to do, Heath." "Spoilsport." Heath blew raspberries. "I am not!" June rolled her eyes. "At least come into my office with me for a while then," Heath said, suggestively. June gave him an offended look. "Okay mister, listen loud and clear. You do not get to sleep with me unless and until this conference becomes a success!" "Is that a challenge?" Heath's eyes gleamed with excitement. Oh, he loved how this woman liked to push him! "It's a statement of fact!" June retorted, crossing her arms over her chest. "You need to stay focused." "You are worse than a headmistress at a convent school!" Heath laughed but dipped his head and captured her lips with his. "But I find it so damn sexy!" June pushed him away, "Ah ah ah, what did I say?" "Sleeping is not the same as kissing!" He threw his hands up in the air, feigning innocence. "No sleeping, no f*****g, no touching, no kissing!" June listed out. "That's not fair!" Heath pouted. "That's a crime to my human rights!" June scoffed. "Why don't you go file a complaint then?" Heath leaned in, hovering over her, his eyes dancing with mischief. "Maybe I will," he whispered against her ear, his breath warm. "But I would rather f**k your brains out all Saturday and Sunday after acing the conference on Friday." June felt a shiver run down her spine. "Let's see where this goes." She kept her voice steady but Heath did not miss the slight quiver. He smirked. "Oh, we will see." . . . "What are you doing here?" Heath was not happy to see his brother lounging on his couch. But he was glad that June had not come home with him. Otherwise, it would have gotten messy. "Just thought I'd drop by," George said, not bothering to hide his smirk. "How's the big boss gig treating you?" Heath's jaw clenched. "I'm doing just fine without your help," he replied, tossing his keys onto the coffee table. George's eyes softened but his smirk stayed in place. "Never said you needed my help." Heath rolled his eyes. "What do you want?" "Just checking in on my little bro," George said, his tone light, "And maybe have a drink with him?" Heath sighed, his shoulders dropping in defeat. "Fine," he said, walking over to the bar. "But only one." George's smirk grew as he took the offered whiskey. "To new beginnings," he toasted, his eyes twinkling. Heath clinked his glass against George's before taking a sip. "Why are you really here?" he asked. George leaned back into the couch, his eyes never leaving Heath. "I just wanted to make sure you weren't going to run this company into the ground," he said, his tone light but his gaze serious. "Don't you think you should have worried about that before quitting out of the blue?" Heath rolled his eyes. "You left our Dad no choice but to appoint me the CEO. And we all know no one in the family wanted that." "Our dad had faith in you," George said, his expression earnest. "And so do I." It was the truth. George quitting out of the blue was his and their father, Martin's plan to leave everyone with no choice but to appoint Heath the CEO. But George could not say that out loud. Heath would not be happy to hear it. "Thanks for the vote of confidence," Heath said dryly, taking a sip of his whiskey. "Seriously, though," George said, his smirk fading. "How's it going with June? I hope you are not giving my diligent PA a hard time." "She is my PA now." Heath shrugged. George's eyes twinkled. "Yes, but she's also a person. How's she holding up with the new management?" Heath's expression grew unreadable. "June is fine," he said, his voice tight. "Why do you ask?" George took a sip of his whiskey, his eyes never leaving Heath's. "Just wondering how she's coping with the new... temp arrangement," he said, his tone casual. Heath's eyes narrowed slightly. "What do you mean?" "I plan to whisk her away." George shocked Heath by saying, "As soon as I settle into a new role after my break." . . . _________________
