Before The Explosion
The view of the Pacific Ocean from the Regal Wisteria Wailea resort was wondrous. The crescent-shaped Molokini crater could be seen in the distance, but only half of the volcanic atoll was visible from the beach. To fully experience the crater, guests would take catamarans or other boats launched from the east coast of Maui or even Lahaina on the west coast. From Wailea Beach, one could see guests jumping from boats to scuba dive or snorkel at the crater. Reef sharks, however, were not visible from that far away but didn’t really pose a danger to the snorkelers or divers.
