CHAPTER 5
“FIFTY-SEVEN POINTS! Beat that.” I sat back with a self-satisfied smile on my face.
I’d just managed to spell QUALITY—and on a triple word score, no less—when Nick’s radio came to life. I recognised Kev’s calm voice.
“Nick from Kev, over.”
“Kev from Nick. Go ahead, over.”
“Bert and Tim checked in five minutes ago, but Ron hasn’t answered.”
Ron was one of the policemen who’d been there since I arrived. He liked his tea with three sugars and spent most of the time griping about his mother-in-law. I hated to admit it, but I was glad he’d been stationed in the car outside. It gave my ears a rest.
Nick stood up as Kev continued, “We can see his outline in the front seat. Looks like he’s fallen asleep. Tony’s gonna go wake him up.”
“Understood. Tell him to be careful.”
