Alpha Alex Henry POV
“No games, Lettie,” I slammed my palm on the table.
The woman with the diamond encrusted headscarf rolled her silver eyes. “Did you bring what I asked?”
I dug a box of bonbons from the gift bag and placed it on the table.
Her eyes lit up. She clapped her hands and reached for the box. I pulled it back before she grabbed it.
“Alex!”
“I travelled a long way to get these.”
She rolled her eyes. “Come on there’s no reason to keep my chocolates hostage.”
“Tell me what I need to know and you get them.”
“Alex, we’ve been in this for a while now. I wouldn’t double-cross you.”
I’d been to every magical being imaginable and the one who came closest to helping me break my curse was Lettie but she was a pain in my ass.
“I get it you’re not getting younger and you want to play with your kids while you can still run.”
I placed the box of chocolate in front of her.
“A damn cure doesn’t exist.”
“Find your fated mate then,” she said peeling the box open.
“Do you know how difficult that is?” I raised a brow. I’ve searched for years but came up empty.
Lettie leaned forward, her purple robe dangling from her dingy shoulders.
“Do you know how many desperate wolves come in here searching for their destined match? Millions.”
“How many do you find?”
“Nine hundred thousand. Sit back, you know the drill, Alpha.”
I groaned. I took the knife from Lettie and sliced my palm open. A few drops of blood in a bowl and Lettie was satisfied. I was done with rituals and potions. I'd gotten used to the pain that I didn't feel anymore.
“I must warn you not everyone is satisfied with their moon goddess given mate. All I do is find them.”
I groaned. If my mate was found it would free me of this curse, then it was a double win. I didn’t want a woman. I wanted a cure for my wolf. As the years passed it got harder and harder to control him and with each pack, I conquered we both got stronger. If I found my fated mate it would only serve to free me from a feral wolf.
“Let’s get this over with.”
Lettie shrugged and swirled the contents of the bowl. I sat back and sighed.
Black smoke puffed up from the bowl.
“Crap.” Lettie gawked at the bowl.
“What?”
“Alex… you don’t have a fated mate.”
“What the hell does that mean!”
“The goddess skipped you. You don’t have a mate. Maybe she died or something but you don’t have one.”
She plucked a chocolate from the tray and dusted her hands.
“This has never happened before.”
I eyed the box of chocolates seriously. She whisked them away.
“I’m not lying!”
“Whatever.” I stood.
“Whoa, whoa, does this mean you’re giving up? You’re going to let your wolf go feral Do you know what that could spell for Henry pack? For Gareth?”
I dug out the real reason I was here. An object tucked in a white cloth. I slammed it in front of her.
“What’s that?”
“I need you to track the original owner. Three days and I’ll be back.”
“Okay but what about your wolf?”
I sighed.
“There’s nothing I can do other than destroy all my enemies before they destroy me.”

I walked out of Lettie’s Fortunes into the summer sun. I hope Raven pack’s in better weather spirits. Ryan my beta leaned against the Porsche. Sunglasses on and toothpick in teeth as usual.
“How’d it go?”
“Same as usual. f*****g ridiculous. A stupid injury shouldn’t have caused all this.”
“Maybe you’ll still recover. It’s been five years since General Kahn injured you and your wolf’s going strong. Most wolves would have gone feral already.”
Ryan and everyone else only knew what I needed them to know. I was in constant pain and a constant battle with my wolf. I found solace in the waters of the moon pool. Henry's pack didn’t have the strongest moon pools but they’d done the trick over the years.
“You sure about leaving Bowen in charge of the pack?” Ryan asked.
He drove the car instead of me.
“I’m not that’s why I want weekly reports.”
“Are you sure about this though? Are you sure you want to run this pack? Alpha Raymond won’t take this lying down.”
I nodded. My Dad conquered Raven Pack over twenty years ago but the current tribe Alpha plundered the resources and wasted the army. I wasn’t interested in any of that though. The people who put the Alpha King, Gareth, my sometimes friend into a never-ending sleep were tracked to this pack. Sooner or later they would try to awaken Gareth and that couldn’t happen because it would awaken an ancient horror too. I didn’t know if they had an army or worse.
I wished I could wake my friend and everything would be fine but Gareth can’t wake up not until the curse he has is removed and I have no hope of that. The Alpha King just has to sleep for a little bit longer.
“There’s nothing he can do. Dad never made him permanent Alpha.”
“Aren’t you worried about his supporters though?”
"I'm not worried about them. The pack can't even protect itself."
I curled my fingers into a fist. Anyone against me is in my way.
Ryan nodded. He was the only beta I really trusted but I couldn't leave him in Henry pack I needed him here because if things went south he had my pack. Raven pack was a day's drive from the Henry pack so I wouldn't be able to drive back and forth the way I wanted. I didn't want to lose this pack to a cocky Alpha I needed it to be strong and then I could go back and take care of the Henry pack.
If things went well I wouldn't be here long.
"I need a special beta team. I'm not taking any from the army and they have to be from this pack."
Ryan blew out a breath. "You're a difficult man to please, Alex."
I smirked. I wouldn't get anywhere by being a pushover.
"Relax, I know where to get them."
"Where?"
"McGregor Institute for Wayward Wolves."
