MELISSA WAS SO STARTLED when the mobile phone in her pocket rang that she almost ran her car off the road and into a tree. It shouldn’t have caught her so completely by surprise, but for some reason it had, and she felt her heart thumping loudly in her chest as she pulled over to the side of the road to answer it.
Digging the phone out of her pocket she glanced at the screen to see who was calling. It was a diverted call from the station and she immediately felt relieved that she had followed the advice from Zack and had called the chief inspector to ask for help. She was normally an optimistic person, but after recent events she couldn’t help thinking that the phone call meant something had happened to further disrupt the peace of her beloved Oakhurst.
