"Are you sure you don't want to go for music class?" Kenny, the chubby beauty had asked Dora who nodded with certainty.
"Very, very sure. It is boring up there and i can't sing" She replied writing the last sentence on the board into her notebook. As soon as she was done, she shut her note shut and dump it in her backpack.
"You liar. You try to avoid attention don't you? Everyone knows you can sing you dummy" Kenny argued with her in frustration. The girl could sing and everyone in class admired her for that.
"Kenny… Kenny…" Dora mentioned her name in a musical tune. Kenny rolled her eyes. "Just because i can sing does not mean i love doing it. Why can't y'all give me a break for ones? Tiana can sing but no one acknowledges her effort in the musical concerts" The 17 year old flung her bag over her shoulder in a stylish fashionable manner and walked out of the class throwing her long hair around. She was so fund of doing that. Kenny followed her behind. Since it was closing hour, they always headed toward the same direction. As they jogged down the stairs toward the ground floor, they were both stopped by one of the well known bully in school 'Jennie the Beauty Queen'.... That was all they called her. Everyone was scared of her because she was of an influential family and just a phone call to her dad could cause a huge disaster in school. The lady acted like a spoilt brat. Just because she had an influential family, she felt it was wise to rub it on everyone's faces.
"If it's not the pale student we have here" She said with a smirk as she walked toward them dangling her keychain on her finger. The lady gave Dora a thorough look evilly forgetting they were both the same age and pushed her roughly to the ground for just no reason.
"Oopsie! Sorry. You just look different" She mocked. "Sometimes, i wonder why your skin is so white. I just can't help but wonder if your parents don't feed you or you are just a strange person...you know what I mean right? A strange person from above?" The bully had showed her fake concern still dangling the key at her face. She stretched out her hands to help her up. Dora was already use to the bully. She slapped off the lady's hands and stood up with out any help. She held her bag straps confidently and began walking away ignoring the bully. Kenny didn't like the idea of Dora walking out on the devil. She tried whispering her to stop but the girl wouldn't listen. Her confidence was out of this world. Jennie gave Dora an angry stare feeling her pride hurt as the lady walked out on her. She hurried toward her and yanked her back in anger pinning her to the wall.
"Who do you think you are to walk out on me like that? Whatever i said didn't have any effect to you, I can see that. I called you a pale dead being you i***t! Won't you say anything back to me?" The girl asked furiously. Other students walked past them wondering what was going on but didn't dare to wait. They weren't ready to be ridiculed by Jennie's gang. Dora had said nothing still. She stared at Jennie in the eyes feeling no anger or remorse. For some reason, she felt okay being called pale. She was already used to it. It was a term everyone called her while growing up and there was nothing she could do to change that.
"Dora, say something so that we can leave" Kenny pleaded to her, feeling concerned. Dora turned her focus to her and smiled.
"It's fine" She replied, giving her a wink. Jennie was shocked. The girl wasn't scared of her. She hadn't thought the girl would gather so much confident to ignore all her threats like that making her look stupid. She eventually let go of her frustrated. Dora adjusted her uniform promptly.
"You know what Dora, you might act tough now but it's fine. It's okay. It isn't over yet. Sometimes i just feel you aren't human. There is always something suspicious about you. Why am I surprised anyway? Your mum is a weirdo for getting you from the dump. Maybe it's just her bad luck for not getting a child for a long time just to get you" As soon as Dora heard the word 'mum', she got very infuriated now. She could tolerate any insult on any other person but not her mother. She hated it when anyone spoke ill of her mother. Angrily, she threw a punch on Jennie's face so hard causing her to go crashing until the ground with her nose bleeding and her face red due to the impact. Kenny stared on in shock. The students stopped curious to see a fight and began hailing her as if they were in a boxing ring. Jennie touched her nose bleed in shock and got herself up.
"I can tolerate anyone insult me but don't you dare insult my mother" Dora had warned with a threatening look before walking out on her pretending she had done nothing wrong. Kenny followed her behind like a marvelled puppy still surprise at what she did.
"You can fight Dora? Since when?" She asked curiously, beaming in smiles.
"No i can't. I don't fight" Dora defended herself as they stood before the bus stop.
"I don't think so. The way you punched her felt like you been trained or something. That impact was massive. Who taught you Dora? I want to be trained too. Take all my money and savings" Kenny pleaded nudging Dora's arm repeatedly, causing her so much discomfort.
"I am serious Kenny. I really don't fight. I don't know how i did that" She tried explaining to the adamant girl who didn't seem convinced still.
"Are you telling me you are a born fighter or what?" Kenny asked with more marvelled.
"Is that impossible?" Dora wanted to know. She knew it was rare but she'd hear of few boxers who were natural fighters. It was all about born talent. Kenny face looked more brightened up than ever.
"O!gosh! If that is the case then it is even cooler. You don't need to get trained, the fighting spirit is already there in you just like a natural boxer or a vampire" She explained grinning. Dora rolled her eyes. Everyone around her kept talking about vampires. The last vampire encountered in their city was killed several years ago as soon as he was caught. It was obvious the city was a vampire proofed city meaning no vampire could stay in there and survive for long.
"Why do you all keep relating me to a vampire?" She asked Kenny confused.
"I don't relate you to a vampire. Do I? Your dad does. A lot. I am certainly not the one who picks you up sometimes with a pistol in my pocket" Dora sighed knowing Kenny was right. Her dad always mistaken her as a vampire each time he sees her come out to take a cup of water late in the night or each time she approaches him. He always told her her skin was very pale and it was kind of suspicious to him. He never wanted to have anything to do with her. All he did was look at her from a far and then take his gun trying to startle her. Her mum hated anytime he does this and she told him so but he wouldn't listen. He would argue with her instead telling her they had no clue where she was from.
"The press just found her at the roadside. She could be a vampire kid. Haven't you thought of the odds?" He would remind her in anger any time she takes the gun from him.
"She is not a vampire. I can feel it. She is just different. If she were to be a vampire, she would have bitten someone or killed someone by now. She hasn't done any of that which shows she isn't a vampire" Her mum would defend and her dad would think about this and keep the rest of the argument to halt. Dora couldn't take all this anymore. She wasn't sure of what her dad saw in her. Since she grew older and older, her dad became more distant. Her mum often told her that when she was young, her dad noticed her pale skin but concluded she would look more healthier when she grows older. The more older she grew, there was no changes in her pale skin and this made her dad suspicious to her. According to her dad, anytime he sees her at night it often felt as if he had encountered one of them because they look exactly the way she looked.
"Dora!!!! Where are you lost?! The bus is here" Kenny snapped her out of her deep thought pointing at the bus that was pulling over before them.
