CHAPTER 13MILITARY SECRETS I had no luck with the Sergeant at the desk, and even though I knew better, I wasn’t going to pay the dash. “Do you know Honorable Williams?” I said to the Sergeant. His eyes lost their half-asleep drowsiness. He sat up more erect. It was obvious that he did. I persisted. “He is the owner of this airline, and I would hate to have to tell him of this breach.” “I no believe you,” he said in a deep, resonating voice. “Then hand me the phone and I will call him. I know his number.” The Sergeant trembled as though he’d had a sudden chill and bit his lower lip. “Wait here,” he said while getting to his feet and carefully brushing breadcrumbs from the front of his uniform.
