Dylan's POV
“Why don't we attack and strike them hard?” Damon fumed, looking at me for support. “Why are we here deliberating when we should be crushing their bones?”
I remained silent, but trying hard to keep in mind each of my officials suggestions.
“Violence is not the answer to all situations-” Kane was saying but Damon cut him off.
“This is no time to be diplomatic Beta Kane, this is the time to nip their insolence in the bud.”
I watched the other officials in the room, they all seem to agree with Damon's suggestion as they all nodded their head.
“Being diplomatic sometimes is the best way to solve an issue.” Kane argued, not backing down from his stand. “We reach out to them and find out-”
“This will make us look weak Beta Kane, have you thought of that?” Damon interrupted Kane once again and I have to come in when it almost became an argument.
“Enough, both of you!”
At the sound of my voice, the room suddenly fell silent. They knew any other word could get them into trouble.
“Now go over the details once again.” I pointed to Damon who looked like he was sulking.
“Alpha, the information I have isn't much. I only know there was a rogue attack on the Redmoon pack.” Damon explained, unable to meet my gaze.
“Gamma Damon, since when do we start acting on hearsay?” I questioned, my tone hinting my disapproval.
He shook his head, “No Alpha, this isn't base on hearsay, our spy in Redmoon personally informed me.”
“We would follow Kane's suggestion, from there we see how it goes.” I said, dismissing his comment with a wave of my hand.
I looked around the faces of everyone in the round table, they seem to be shocked by my decision. They knew I never tolerate any form of rebellion. I once crushed a whole pack just because the pack Alpha spoke rudely to me.
So what suddenly changed? Have I grown weak?
‘No we are still strong, we are just too concerned about getting our mate right now.’ My wolf answered from somewhere in my mind.
I instantly shut him off, not wanting to have the thoughts of my mate take over my mind once again. Since I left Bloodcrest pack, Gaya hasn't given me a moment's rest about our mate. It had been a raging battle to shut him out from my mind, even when it's time to sleep.
“Alpha, did you think that is wise?” Damon called out to me, his voice bringing me out of my thoughts.
“That is my decision, this meeting is over.” I said in a note of finality.
There were slight murmurs from the officials as they stood up, but nothing more than that. No one dares challenge me or go against my order. They knew better than to do that.
“You made a good decision, Alpha.”
I looked up to see Kane standing before me.
I shook my head, “I don't want to make a good decision. Being good only gets you used or killed.”
Kane observed me for a while, his mouth hanging open. He was probably too lost to give a response to my statement.
“I know you are still worried about her,” He said after collecting himself. “We will find her.” He assured me.
I didn't give a reply to his assurances. My hopes about finding her were getting thinner as time ticked. But I hope I didn't lose my mind.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Kane leave the room. Now I am all alone with my thoughts. My eyes roamed around the room, looking at everything but still seeing nothing.
The ultimatum I gave the Bloodcrest Alpha would be over tomorrow. He had to find Ava one way or the other, he promised to. But still I heard no news from him. He couldn't dare play with me. Not when he knew he had a lot at stake.
Even ever so faintly, I could feel the connection of the mate bond. I could sense Ava was somewhere, still alive but weak.
Just this morning, I sent another band of warriors to go search around the nearest rogue camps. They came back with no news.
Still clamped in my thoughts, I heard the conference room door open. I didn't bother turning to look who it was, thinking it should be Kane or one of the many officials.
“What are you brooding about?” A feminine voice rang through the room.
I looked up suddenly, my eyes widening. “J-Jasmine, what are you doing here?”
“I take it you ain't happy to see me.” She pouted, coming closer to me. “This is no way to greet an old friend, is it?”
I waved off her question and instead watched as she sat in front of me on the big conference table. Jasmine and I go way back before she left the pack on the basis of studying. She wanted more from me, but I had to cut it off. To me, our relationship can never go past being a fling.
“So, how much do you miss me?” She gave me a seductive smile and I looked away.
“Does that mean you didn't miss me, baby boy?” She pressed, sensing my unwillingness to reply.
“It's Alpha to you.” I met her gaze making sure my tone was icy. “And why should I miss you? Last time I checked you left the pack on your own.”
She seems to mull for a while before a smile appear on her lips.
“I see, you are still trying to create a wall between us.”
“There's no us. Now, I will appreciate it if you could leave.” I frowned, trying my best not to stare at her exposed cleavage in front of me. “I'm in the middle of something when you came in.”
She scoffed, rolling her eyes. I noticed her almond eyes drop from my face, then to my chest. A smile curved the corner of her thin lips.
“Don't form too hard to get, baby boy,” she leaned closer to me. “Every of your actions speaks of how much you have missed this.” She said dropping the hems of her blue gown, hereby revealing more cleavage to my eyes.
I forced myself to glue my eyes back to her face, her mouth was now twitched in a knowing smile. She was still as beautiful as before. Her round orbs were strictly focused on me, watching me with keen interest. She knew just how to get me.
“Things are different now Jasmine,” My voice came out almost in a whisper. “We can't-”
She cut me off with an attack on my lips. I tried weakly to fight off the sweet assault but she held the back of my neck in place.
I cursed in my mind, instantly losing my will. Her lips tasted just as sweet. A combination of honey and cherry.
Just as I begin to kiss her back with my own ravenous intensity, an image of Ava suddenly appeared in my head.
I immediately lost all will and broke the kiss. Jasmine gasped, looking at me with raw desire.
“What's wrong baby boy?” She probed, resting her hands on my shoulder.
“We can't do this, this isn't fair on my mate. You should leave.”
I muttered and wished I hadn't used the word ‘Mate’ because Jasmine eyes immediately turn dark.
