I Have Nothing Better To Do

Light stared at the ceiling for what felt like hours, her fingers thrumming a beat that had no rhythm on the rods that was on the sides of the bed. She was waiting, patiently…because they had told her they would make everything clear and s**t like that but yet here she was a few hours later still in the bed, the drug seemed to have cleared from her system. She no longer felt drowsy and her legs were shaking neither were her eyes spinning when she stood but then again, she lay back down, closing her eyes and rethinking every single one if her life decisions that led her up to that moment.

“Should have just drove my car home” she whispered regretfully to herself.

“Miss Light…Moon?” she heard the confusion in his voice as he read out her surname, Light couldn’t help but chuckle as she looked at Dr. Brown who still stared at her name on what ever it was he was reading in his hands, looking confused.

“My father’s name was Moon Stone so he thought it would be funny to name me Light just so my full name would be Moon Light or Moon Stone Light” she laughed, Dr Brown’s lips twitched as he heard her explanation, Light could tell he was trying to hold in his laughter.

Light observed the doctor, he was not with his assistant this time, he had short cropped black hair that made him look like he had just left the military, he had broad shoulders, a square jaw, good physic and he was handsome…. Extremely good looking actually and the doctor coat and glasses only added to his good looks. He was holding a tablet in his hands as he walked closer to the foot of Light’s bed.

“Sorry for keeping you waiting for so long, we were in the middle of a company crisis but now it is settled” Dr Brown said as he took a seat next to the bed and kept typing in words in to the tablet in his eyes.

“Urm…Dr Brown right?” Light sat up and looked directly into his eyes.

“Yes?”

“How much longer do I have to stay here?” Light asks, her fingers still lightly tapping on the rod attached to the bed. She was nervous, they did not seem like the type of people that would let her go easily even though she assured them that she wouldn’t say a word about what she had witnessed.

“First things first Miss Light” Dr Brown cleared his throat and then handed the tablet to her, Light eyed the electronic suspiciously but still collected from his hands. It was somewhat heavy and it was unlike any tablet she had ever seen, the screen was wide and images floated atop of it.

“Please play the video, once you are done then we can talk”

Light Dr Brown suspiciously as well wondering why she was being made to watch a video instead of him answering her questions.

The play button was in the air, Light at first was confused, she wasn’t sure if she should tap the air or the screen. She tapped the floating butting and immediately the screen came alive and then there was an animated talking…monkey?

“Hi, I am T-Rex and I would like to officially welcome you to the S.S.C.P also known as Supernatural Security Control Power which is a mouth full so we just call it S.S.C.P for short. If you are watching this video it means that you have encountered one of what we like to call Supernaturals and it seems like you were not supposed to, you must be shocked and overwhelmed but we the S.S.C.P have been around for centuries to make sure that whatever you have experienced would not repeat itself”

Light’s brows raised. Been around for centuries?

“Well, let me start by stating the obvious. Supernaturals are real, all the myths are true. Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, Demons and Weres, Sprites, Druids, Fairies…and so on, they all exist and no! Do not panic because we are the S.S.C.P are here to make sure that this truth does not come into the light so as to prevent a worldwide panic so we made some rules…they all live among you but they do not break the rules and if they do, they are brought here to be punished” the digital monkey scratched it’s ears like it was an actual living thing.

“I am assuming whatever it was that you’ve witnessed means that one of these Supernaturals have broken the rules and are now currently being punished, which brings us to you.

You have two options now that all is said and done, you can choose to forget, go back to your normal life as a clueless human who knows nothing about the supernatural world or you can choose to join S.S.C.P and fight to make sure no other human experiences what it was you did.

The choice is yours to make” the monkey said and then it gave a small bow before the video ended and the screen went blank.

That was it?

Once Light had realized that it was an introductory video, she expected it to be as long as a movie but yet the video was only a few minutes long and it did not answer all of her questions but it did answer enough...but also left her with more questions.

“I can choose to forget? What does that mean?” Light turned to the doctor who had been there the whole time she was watching the confusing but yet helpful video.

“We have a Serum that erases particular parts of a person’s memory, it was made by our Witches to specifically clear every memory of anything not human in a human’s mind”

“Including dogs?”

“What...no Miss Light” Dr Brown shook his head “What I meant was anything that is out of the ordinary for humans”

“Oh...” Light nodded in understanding “And there are no side effects?”

“Well...”

“I knew it!” Light exclaims “There is no way there is such a drug without side effects...so if I choose to forget it means that I might die?”

Dr Brown sighs “No Miss Light, there are no side effects, just a few... mishaps”

Light looks at him incredulously “Did you just say mishaps?”

“Sometimes the humans tend to forget every painful memory in their lives as well...but it only happens to one out of three hundred humans so it is very rare”

“So what is in it for me if I chose to join the S.S.C.P?” Light couldn’t believe she was considering it but then again the thought of going back to her old life with no recollection of the night before...her life that was only colorful because of the man who broke her heart.

She would have to go back to running her father’s company and having everything given to her on a silver platter...did she really want to do that for the rest of her life?

“You will have answers to all of the questions that are running through your mind right now” Dr Brown said to her knowingly “And the pay is good as well”

“I don’t need money” Light replied “I just need excitement, something different”

Ever since she had been running her father’s company, she had been all alone, doing what she promised her dying father she would do...so here she was, a twenty year old who had been put under obligation to watch over a company though she wanted to do what others her age did. Now people never liked her or loved her for who she was but for what was in her bank account... everything came so easily... everything is so tiring.

“I will do it” Light decided “I will join your weird ass company and learn everything there is to know about the otherworld that has been kept hidden”

Dr Brown nodded “You have made the right choice but I can’t help but ask if you don’t mind...why have you chosen to join the S.S.C.P?”

Light looks down at her delicate looking fingers that were still covered in dirt from the rod she had led to protect herself with...the rush from that moment, she wanted to feel it again.

“Because I have nothing better to do” she replied making the Doctor look at her in shock.
