Shane put the phone back into his pocket, he saw Mia thinking about what he said before calling his Dad. “Are you scared?” he said pulling her closer.             “I don’t know.” She said shaking her head. “I don’t know if your parents are going to like me. What if I don’t like them?” she said pushing her hands to her face. “Don’t take that like it sounded.”             “I wont.” He chuckled. “My parents already like you. Hell you’re the only girl I’ve wanted to bring home to them. So they know you must be special.” He said pulling her in for a tighter hug.             “I don’t know how to take that.” She laughing. “At least my Dad didn’t fight me on staying with you and your family.” He said pulling away from him when a knock at the door stopped their conversation.             “Looks like he’s here already.” He said walking to the door. “Don’t worry you will like my house, my Mom already wants to take you shopping to make sure you have everything you need.” He opned the door. “Hey Dad, this is Mia.”             “Hello, oh my you’re right she is beautiful. You better take good care of her.” His Dad said slapping his arm. “Come lets get everything in the car. I bet you’re excited.”             “Well I am a little nervous.” She said blusing.             “Dad, she thinks you guys aren’t going to like her, and I’ve explained that I don’t bring girls home, so she is different.”               “Well he is right there. He has never brought a girl home, let alone asked if we would invite her to live with us.” He said carrying a box down the stairs and to the car. Shane and Mia followed with the computer, and some of the food.             It didn’t take them long to gather the rest of Mia’s stuff. He was exhausted tonight she had to stay awake for her school to start tomorrow. She didn’t even have anything for her school, she would talk to Shane about that once they were settled into her room at his house. She missed her Dad and hoped that he would have been here already, but she understood his job is what was taking up his time.             They arrived at the house, it was huge. She didn’t know he was that rich, her heart started to race. Now she had to really focus. Shane was her boyfriend and he chose her, she had to keep him happy otherwise she felt like she was just using them for a place to stay. Mia didn’t noticed Shane watched her.             “Too much Mia?” Shane said laughing at her.             “Huh, oh um I’ve never been in a house this big!” she said shaking her head and bring her attention to Shane.             “Don’t worry Mia, once your Dad takes his job here in town, you will be taken care of.” Shane’s dad said. “Oh I forgot, I never introduced my self. I am Tom.” He said kissing her hand. “I’m pretty good about manners, I think this whole thing caught me off guard,” he said jokingly.             “That’s okay.” She giggled. “I am glad you are allowing me to stay with you until my Dad gets here.” She said grabbing some of her stuff, and following him up the steps.             “I wish Shane would have told us sooner.” He said looking at Shane. “But I’m glad he finally did.” He said pushing the door open. “Rachel isn’t here, she had to go to the hospital. She’s a Doctor.” He said walking up the stairs. “Let’s get you to your room. Shane and I will handle the rest.”             “Are you sure?” she said looking at them. “I don’t want you hurting yourself.”             They both burst into laughter. “We’re men baby girl.” Shane said kissing her before walking back down the stairs,             Mia turned around and looked at her room. This was twice the size of her house that they moved from. She wasn’t sure how she was going to repay them for their kindness. She just hoped her Dad would get there as soon as possible. She felt weird living off someone else, she knew her Dad had money.             “How do you like it?” Shane said coming into her room with the last two boxes of her stuff, he laid them on her bed.             “I don’t know what to say.” She said looking at him. “This room is bigger then my house,” she said shaking her head. “Your family is too kind.” She said trying not to show him she was about to cry.             “When I told my Dad about you, and how you were living alone in the hotel in town he was upset that I hadn’t ask him to bring you here.” He said embracing her in a hug. “I should have done it sooner.” He said kissing her forehead.             “There is something I need to do though.” She said looking at him. “I am not prepared for school tomorrow night.” She said with a sad face.             “Well.” He said releasing her, he left the room for a moment. “I knew you didn’t have anything, so I got your some stuff.” He said walking back into her room with a backpack. “I know this whole thing is stressing you out, so I am going to help anyway I could.” He said handing her the backpack.             “Oh my!” she said opening the backpack, everything was neatly placed in there. “Thank you, baby.” She said putting the bag on the bed and embracing him in a passionate kiss.             Tim cleared his throat. “Alright you two.” He said laughing. “I made some dinner if you’re interested.”             Shane half smiled, Mia blushed. “Yeah we’re hungry.” He said taking Mia’s hand. “Sorry Dad.”             “Don’t worry about it kid, I am just glad you are happy. You might actually get your grades up next.” He said joking.             “Na.” Shane said giggling like a small child. “I still hate school.”             “Well maybe you wont hate school as much, now that your girlfriend is there. Maybe you wont get kicked out like they keep telling me they are going to do.” Tim’s tone changed to a more serious voice.             “I promise I will try.” Shane said sitting down at the table next to Mia. “Mia will keep me in order. Besides I have to protect her from some at the school now that she is mine.” He said looking at Mia.             “So you’re ready to do the mating ritual Mia?” Tim asked looking at Shane.             “Um, I haven’t told her about that.” Shane said clearing his throat. “We’re not there yet Dad.”             “What is this ritual?” Mia said looking at Tim.                     “I will let Shane explain it to you. The only thing I can say it’s going to be rough since you are-“ Tim saw Shane getting angry, he guessed Shane hadn’t said anything about anything. “Um never mind.” He said taking a bite of his food.             Mia didn’t say anything, the dinner was quiet. She wanted to ask Shane about the whole conversation before it stopped. She was a little worried. Were they witches? Or worse? She was starting to wonder if moving into the house was a good idea.             “All done.” Shane said getting up with his plate. Mia followed him into the kitchen. Shane washed their dishes. “Why don’t we get your room done, we can talk there if you want.”             “Alright.” Mia said looking at Tim. “Good night.” She said before following Shane up the stairs.             Once they were in her room, he closed the door. He leaned against it, he was afraid she was going to ask the questions that actually reveal what he was. He didn’t think she was ready for that part.             Mia looked out the window for a few minutes. Her hands tremble. “So what was your father talking about at dinner.” She said without turning to face him. She didn’t want him to know she was scared, but he knew.             “The mating ritual?” Shane cleared his throat. He wanted to hug her, but he stayed where he was. “It’s like an engagement thing.” He said.             “Why would they call it that?” she turned to face him. “Why would we get engaged now?”             “Well here in this town they call it that.” He said shrugging his shoulders. “There are only so many that are young like us.” He walking closer to her. “Don’t worry I don’t plan on asking you to marry me for a while, I want you to get comfortable and all of that kind of stuff. I don’t want to rush you.” He said kissing her.             “Okay.” She said kissing him back. She was still weary about that whole conversation, she figured he wasn’t telling her the whole truth. Maybe he was, and she was just looking at it at the wrong way.             “So why don’t we walk around the house, I can show you where everything is.” He said taking her hand. “I promise nothing will not happen to you unless you want it to.” He said looking at her, her face said she was deep in thought. “I am sorry my dad said that, he shouldn’t have. I told him you and I are in the early stages.”             She didn’t say anything, she wanted to, but wasn’t sure if she could speak. She was still in shock from the whole conversation. “Yeah show me around.” She finally said snapping out of her own thoughts. “I am nervous for tomorrow too. I don’t know if I am going to be able to adjust to school at night.”             “Don’t worry you will be fine. I am in some of your classes, I will introduce you to some people that are in the rest of your classes. The boys already know that you are new to the whole night school.” He said stopping in front of his room. “This is my room. I am two doors down from you.” He said pushing the door open. “If you get scared come to my bed, I will keep you warm to.” He said closing the door and continued to walk down the hall. “My parents room, my Dad’s office, and finally the library.” He said walking into a huge room. It was stocked with thousands of books. Mia could be in here all day. “I hope you like reading.” He said taking her further into the room.             “I do.” She said exploring some of the covers. “Oh Fantasy!” she said picking one up from the shelve. “Yes I could see myself in here all the time.”             “That one is my favorite.” He said pointing to the book in her hand. “I’ve read that a thousand times at least.”             “You read?” she said with raised eyebrows.             “Actually yes.” He said with a big smile on his face. “It is one of the things that keeps me sane, at least until I actually met you.” He said pulling her away from the books. “Come we have more to look at.” He said leading her out of the library.             The rest of the house was quite boring, at least until he took her outside to the garden. “This is where I like to read.” He said pushing the door open. “We have a pool too, but I am not into swimming much.” He said leading her to a small place in the middle of the garden. He sat down on the chair, the stars were bright.             “I like this spot.” She said sitting next to him. “I cant believe the stars are bright like this.” She said reaching for them like she could touch them. “I am glad I am here.” She said turning to face him. “I hate the hotel.”             “I know, I could see it in your face each time you were there. You had some dreams too, but I cant tell you what they were. You cried in your sleep a lot. It might be because you miss your mom and dad.” He said shrugging his shoulders. “I thought it was cute that. I could cuddle you all night just to make you feel safe.”             “Thanks.” She said blushing. She didn’t know she talked in her sleep. Now she was worried what he would learn from her during her sleeping. “Do you parents know that we are active?”             “Yes.” He said putting his hands behind his head. “That is the reason my dad mentioned the ritual. It’s a right of passage. But you have to be prepared for it, its not easy.” He said. “But you will get through it. My family is complicated.” He laughed.             “Mine is too.” Mia said putting her head on his shoulder. She was getting tired. “I wish it was morning already.” She said yawning.             “Oh no you don’t.” he said tickling her. He looked up and saw his Dad watching him. He knew his Dad wanted her to be apart of the family, and the mating ritual was the final step. He knew it had to happen, and he only had a little bit of time before he is forced to make her do it.             “Why don’t we go back to your room, I know we never unpacked you.” He said getting up. “Plus we need to keep you up for a couple more hours, we might even walk to get something else to eat.”             Mia followed him back into the house. They went to her room, she was exhausted but he was right she needed to stay awake as long as possible. “I guess we can start here, I wonder if Jenny emailed me back yet.”             “Who is Jenny?”             “My best friend from where I used to live. Remember I told you she moved to Canada?”             “Oh yeah that is right.” He said sitting on her bed. “I will tell my Dad you need a desk in here. I forgot it in the garage.”             A knock at the door startled Mia. Shane got up and went to the door. “Hey Dad.”             “I forgot to bring this up.” He said holding a test.             “Oh nice.” He said moving out of the way so Tim could bring the desk into the room. He sat it in the corner, smiled and left.             “Well that takes care of that.” Mia said setting her computer down on the desk, she turned it on but of course Jenny hadn’t emailed her back. “I wonder what Jenny is up to, she’s only answered one of my emails.” She said frowning.             “Well you did say she moved to a new place, maybe she is taking the time to adjust to it. Maybe she found new friends, or maybe her parents took her computer away.” He said shrugging his shoulders.             Mia didn’t say anything, she wanted to sleep. “I think I’m gonna sleep.” She said yawning.             “You don’t want to go and get some food?” he said pulling her close. “It will help keep you awake, it’s almost dawn but you should stay awake.”             “I’m not really hungry,” she said shaking her head. “But I guess we can go out and get something, maybe I’ll get some icecream.”             “Done.” He said pulling her towards the door. “The faster we get outside the better. The cold air will help too.” He said laughing. They didn’t seem Tim the rest of the time they were awake. After getting some ice cream, they went home and to bed. Mia was exhausted.
