CHAPTER 14; Story telling

1527 Words
After throwing hurtful words at her true mate, tears suddenly appeared in her eyes as she was rushing back to her room. She slammed the door when she entered and hid herself behind it. Her hands climbed up on her chest as if she could restrain it from exploding in pain. She tried to fight wherever that pain was coming from because she was clear about what she wanted, and that was way far from the life that she saw in that man who was in front of her just now. Just by looking at him, she already knew that he couldn't be compared to Jack, who was in a high rank. And she would never want to trade anything for the things she has now. She was already a Luna and she would never descend to that rank. Sandra pov "Hey, what's up? You've slept all day." That's how Arlo greeted me when I reached the top step of the stairs. And he was right. I took a short stroll outside the mansion after our breakfast this morning. That's the last thing I did. I have nothing else to do but sleep. I smiled slightly at him. "Yeah, mmm what else can I do?" I'm not allowed to do anything, though. He gave me a thrifty look as he was about to approach the fridge. "That's fine! You need it." "Would you like something to drink? He asked, but even before I answered he already had something in his hands. "Orange or lemonade? As he turned around to face me, he was already holding two cans of juice. "Oh, I'll take the orange one." From there, I walked towards the black granite countertops and sat on one of the three high chairs lined up on that side. Arlo, on the other hand, stood where he was just beside the fridge. As I pulled up the small piece of metal attached to my canned juice, he started to speak. "Can I ask? I looked up at Arlo who was leaning his waist on the sink countertop. "Yeah, sure what it is." I replied briefly, then I looked back at the can I was holding and took my first sip of the cold drink. But he didn't speak immediately and when I looked back at him, he was still thinking about what to ask. However, I patiently waited for his question. And it was only about a couple of seconds later before he spoke again. "Ah, how can I say it? Um-how did you end up in Jade? Or were you born there? I smiled a little, not because the question was funny, well' it was obvious that it wasn't a funny question. The thing is- the way he said it, obviously he wanted to know a lot, he wanted he had to be careful when asking questions. "Well''I wasn't really born there. It was three years ago when my mother and I were taken there by my stepfather. "That man Alfred." He immediately said, and I was amazed by his memory, that he even remembered that man's name. "Y-yeah." I nodded. "Erm. So, how did you end up being a servant if the beta in that pack was your stepfather? "You know, my mom got sick and Alfred didn't really treat us well, so after my mom died he forced me to work for the alpha's family. I bent down and focused on the drink I was holding to hide any emotion that might appear on my face after I answered his question. "Sorry to hear that. "I shouldn't have asked. "No, it's fine. I immediately said as I turned my gaze back at him. I saw a hesitant smile from him. I know he asked out of curiosity and he seems trustworthy even though I've only known him for two days. "H-how about you? Were you born here in this pack? I have to open up our conversation before the awkwardness between the two of us gets worse. "Uhm nope! It's Brix who actually brought me here." He answered quickly before he lifted the can he was holding to drink. I was a bit intrigued by his answer and he seemed to see it. So before I could even think about what to ask, he again started to speak. "I have been a vagabond once, as far as I can tell, I was ten years old at the time. "And to make the story short, Brix picked me up on the street. The beta family here in this pack took me in out of pity. They adopt me." "All thanks to that skinny boy who picked me up from the street! I owe him a lot. I frowned a little when he mentioned the skinny boy, since he even emphasized it and it didn't take me long to understand why he did that, because just a few seconds later I smelled a familiar scent that was getting closer to where we were. "And who is that Skinny boy? Brix spoke and a woman's voice followed. "Looks like you two are having fun here. I turned to the woman who spoke. She was carrying paper bags and had a big grin on her face when I turned to her. "Hi." I said a short greeting to Brix's mom before I left my seat. I felt a bit ashamed when the two came. I feel like I shouldn't just be sitting there. Until that moment, I was still not used to Brix's aura although my senses already knew him. He continued walking towards the fridge and Arlo automatically moved out of his way. From there he took out a bottle of cold water. "How about you? He turned to his mom as he twisted the cap of the water bottle to open it. "No thanks but, what I need is-" She dropped the things on the floor before she continued what she was going to say as she approached me. "I need her to try on all the clothes I bought for her. "So boys, if you will excuse us? While talking, she wrapped her arm around mine. "We're going upstairs! She led me and took the paper bags from the floor where I helped her carry the rest of them. "Come on! I'm so excited, I'm sure all of this is perfectly fit for you. She didn't have to mention how excited she was, since it was obvious anyway. But even before she swept me away completely, I managed to look back at Arlo. "Arlo! He immediately looked at me. "By the way, thanks for the drinks, and for my dress." I mean the clothes I'm wearing. I smiled and said as I followed Brix's mom up the stairs. Our conversation was short but I feel like we talked a lot. Our lives have something in common, and I have grown to admire Brix even more. He is not just known as an alpha for being smart and brave, he also has a heart for the poor. Like me, he also took Arlo out of the difficult part of his life. I can't think of anyone else that can do that. I know there's a lot more to know and I should know about my mate and I can't wait for the time to come when I can finally say that I know him completely. "I didn't make a mistake, all the clothes I bought fit you perfectly! "Especially the one you will be wearing tomorrow when Brix introduces you to our pack members." Brix's mom chuckled in happiness. She succeeded in having me try on every item of clothing she bought for me. She seems to be the most excited about tomorrow's upcoming event. Because I, on the other hand, instead of excitement, I feel more nervous and afraid of what I should expect. It feels like everything is moving too fast, like just yesterday I was just a slave, but tomorrow I'm a complete Luna of a pack. And what worries me the most is whether I can meet their expectations. I'm afraid they might be disappointed in me. No matter how hard I try, I can't be happy and excited because I'm always afraid. Something in me that I can't get rid of. ******************************************* Meanwhile, in the moments that passed, Brix stayed in his office with Arlo. They talked about some things about businesses until their conversation ended with the distribution of invitations. Yesterday, he ordered Arlo to send a message to the crystal pack and he expected that by now Jack or his father had read about it. "Do you think they have received the invitation? Brix asked as he folded his laptop in front of him, even though he already knew the answer to that question. "Well' they should have read that by now." Why did you ask? Arlo answered. Brix frowned slightly, just in case Jack was going to attend with their father. This was the first time he would see him after many years had passed. He didn't know how he should feel when the moment came to face his father.
