Despite the broken main window, Rosina’s coffee shop remained warm and inviting in the cool New England spring night. Something about the woman’s magic made Kennedy feel comfortable and homey. This was the first time she allowed herself a moment of peace and relaxation. The calm after the attack made her recognize how exhausted she was. Sleeping on the streets over the past week didn’t help. The pain in her heart kept her from resting or sleeping much. If not for her cell phone, she would have lost track of the days. The ringer off, she forced herself to not look unless she absolutely needed to.
