She ran through the lobby with her heap of clothes trailing behind her, she broke down in tears as she replayed everything that had happened to her. How did she get betrayed? Where did it go wrong? No one knew of her plan except Becky and she is never going to doubt her, she had been working for her for a very long time and is one of the people who always cheer her on and stay beside her. She exited the hotel and flagged down a cab, got into it and told him to drive her away to nowhere, the taxi kept going but she didn’t mind even if she’s going to the end of the earth, she just want to escape from people.
The taxi dropped her at the last stop where she saw a small wine bar standing beside the telecommunication building in which no one was in at that time, it was late midnight. She walked into the bar which was still opened and requested for Devil Springs Vodka which the bar attendant brought alone with a small alcohol glass.
“Isn’t this too hard for a lady?” He asked quietly as he poured the vodka elegantly
“I’m not a lady” she replied mindlessly and the bar tender’s eyes roamed her body to understand what she meant
“What? Oh because I said I’m not a lady? I might be a lady in appearance but I’m a man at heart” she explained before grabbing the glass and downed the vodka
“You shouldn’t down that once” Frank raised his voice but it was too late, her chest was already burning due to the effect, she was used to strong alcohol but perhaps she had gone for something more than she can handle? She slammed her hands on her chest several times to get rid of the stingy burn but it doesn’t seem to work.
Frank quickly poured a glass of carrot juice which she downed in a twinkle of an eye. After some minutes, she felt relieved and gave out a sigh and heavy cough before dropping off the stool and brought money from her purse. She dropped the money on the table and heads for the door swaying a little bit but still stable.
“Your change” Frank said stretching his hands
“Keep it” she shouted and closed the door behind her and wandered into the dark street.
“Does she stay around here?” Frank said stretching his neck to see where she was headed but she was no longer in sight.
Just then a very heavy rain poured down and Cassy tried to run from it only for her heels to break and twist her ankle a little
“I must be a joke to the universe” she remarked before giving out a loud cry and sank to the floor, she stood in the heavy rain pouring her eyes out
Maybe….just maybe, the rain will wash away her sorrow this night.
After ten minutes of having a good rain bath she gathered all her strength and picked herself up, she unbuckled her second heels and walk barefooted to where she doesn’t even know. She walked for five minutes in the dark street and saw light coming from a shop.
She quickly traced it and found herself at a shoe shop
“Nice, let me get a new shoe” she muttered and pushed the door open
“Sorry we are closed, come by 10:00am in the morning” Mart blurted out without looking up
“But I really need to get a new shoe” she said dripping from head to toe
“I’m sorry but we are closed maybe you can come back in the morning” Mart replied not having it.
“Go sleep, I’ll attend to her” Copper commanded from behind and all eyes were on him
Cassy stared at the tall figure in front of her endlessly, he was putting on a shirt with its sleeve rolled up and a black leather pant, his hair was neat and shining. His blue eyes were shining under the dim light coming from one of the wall, he is damn hot Cassy muttered before biting her lips, and she was not here for this.
“How can we help you ma’am?” he asked with a delicate voice and Cassy couldn’t fall more.
“I need to get a new pair of shoe, this one is broken” she coughed and shoved her hand forward to show him the shoe.
“I’m sorry but we are out of shoes, if you can wait till morning we will be able to get you a new one and also we can provide a place to stay if you want one, I can see you are a stranger in the neighborhood”.
How did he know I’m a stranger? What a strange man
“How can I trust you? I shouldn’t sleep in stranger’s house you know” she pouted and Copper moved to the door, he pushed it open
“You can go then, we will make sure to get shoes ready for you in the morning although I’m not sure if the rich man living down there tied his German shepherds today or he left them to roam about like yesterday where they tore a chicken to pieces” he said waiting for her to pass through the door.
Fear ran down her spine as she heard him talk about dogs, she hates them with passion! She will rather sleep in a stranger’s house than let any dog tear her to pieces eeew
“I’ll stay here then” she muttered biting into her lips making Copper close the door and walk up to her
“Follow me” he said and she followed him up the stairs. She saw different rooms but those are not her business though she didn’t fail to see the beautiful artworks hung proudly on the wall of the house.
“You must love arts” she exclaimed and he confirmed
“I’m sure they are hella expensive” she added following him closely
“I painted them myself” he said and her eyes grew saucers.
“Please use this room till tomorrow, there is a pajamas in the wardrobe, you can take a warm bath too, I can sense you were beaten by the rain”.
She nodded and hopped in the room, closing the door slowly until she could no longer see Copper’s eyes. She stared at the room carefully and examined everywhere before dropping her purse
“He didn’t install some weird cameras did he?” She said to herself as she scanned anything she saw with her big eyes. She finished her inspection and pulled her dress zipper down stepping out of the burden she called cloth and fling it to the edge of the room
Old habits never die tsk tsk
She headed to the bathroom and soaked herself in a warm bath for more than ten minutes before she finally showered and wrapped herself in the bathing robe. She was feeling better but her head was starting to hurt due to the stress and the rain. She walked into the room only for a knock to land on her door
“What’s he looking for? Is he coming to see if I’m done showering? Hope he’s not planning to…” her useless thought was interrupted by another knock and she went for the door holding her purse behind her for defense.
She opened the door and a tray greeted her before she could see Copper’s eyes. She stylishly dropped the purse and smiled awkwardly
“You will need them” he said softly and went away as soon as she collected the tray filled with macaroons, hot tea and pill.
“You are an i***t” she said to herself for thinking about weird stuff when he was only a nice guy. She sat at the edge of the bed and munched on the snacks while drinking her tea, she had taken the pill earlier but she wanted more of the snacks, it was delicious. She felt she was missing something and it dawned on her that it was her phone. It was with Becky!
She gazed at the ceiling of the room and her eyes lingered on the finger-like lamp holder fixed on the wall where the light flooding the room was coming from. She tossed and turned for the hundredth time before she finally drifted to sleep and was able to take a break from everything that happened that day.
The ray of sunlight flashes through the milk color curtain penetrating the darkness of her close eyelids, she slowly turned and opened her eyes which were as heavy as hardened concrete. She gently rubbed her hands on them to remove the boogers in her eyes and slowly placed her feet on the floor after taking a lot of time to stretch her body in the right way. She dragged her heavy feet to the bathroom and washed her face to get rid of the boogers and lingering sleep. She threw on a shirt she found in the giant wardrobe installed in the room on the bum short she was putting on under her party dress and exited the room following the passage closely, she found herself in the workshop
“You are up?” Copper asked without looking back at her
Memories of yesterday flashed through her head at a speed faster than light, she quickly covered her chest which was peeking out of the shirt through her loose two top buttons before hiding back in the passage
Did she actually sleep over at a stranger’s house?
