22 Day 28, Wednesday, September 17 Found some good research on the Tarahumara Indian tribe in northern Mexico. Until pretty recently they’ve lived off of hunting (raccoons?) and a few crops like corn, beans, and squash, but lately they’ve also started eating ramen noodles, potato chips, and soda. And guess what? Suddenly diabetes, obesity, heart disease, etc. Same in some other native cultures I’ve been looking into. The older generation—people who grew up on mostly rice or potatoes or corn, with lots of veggies on the side—are much, much healthier than their children, who grew up eating fast food and now have all these “modern” problems like high blood pressure, etc. Sometimes it feels like I’m not breaking any new ground at all.
