Olima nervously replied, “No, ma. I've checked the kitchen cupboards, and there's no foodstuff there.”
Mia frowned, feeling hungry, and asked, “Why didn't you say anything earlier in the afternoon?”
Olima looked from Mia to Mrs. Gina in shock. She had been helping Mia with her school assignments, and Mia had been acting nice and friendly. But once Mia saw that her mother had arrived home, she changed and started acting rudely, mimicking her mother's toxic behavior.
Mrs. Gina sighed, “Hmm, and you've been sitting here with Mia watching the television. Didn't you know you were supposed to come to my shop at the marketplace to ask for money to refill the house with foodstuffs and the things you need to prepare our dinner tonight? Or did you expect us to starve with you this night?"
Mrs. Gina glared at Olima coldly.
Olima fearfully replied, “No, ma.”
Mrs. Gina's eyes narrowed at Olima as she opened her purse, took out some cash, and counted it.
She said, “Here's 10,000 cash. Before I go upstairs to my room, take my bath, and return downstairs, make sure you've already gone to the nearby market and purchased all the ingredients you need to prepare the vegetable soup with semolina tonight. Or else...”
Mrs. Gina's eyes burned with anger as she dropped the 10,000 cash on the living room center table and walked upstairs to her bedroom.
Olima quickly rushed into the kitchen first, knowing her stepmother wasn't joking with her threat. She searched the kitchen cupboards to check which ingredients were left and which ones she needed to buy at the market for the vegetable soup.
Olima hurried out of the kitchen, picked up the 10,000 cash from the living room center table, and dashed out of the house, hearing Mia subtly laughing at her as she ran out like a crazy woman or someone being chased.
Nathan stood up immediately from the stool beside the gatehouse as he saw Olima rushing out of the house toward the exit gate, holding a black polythene bag to her chest while wearing only her light blue gown and black slippers.
Nathan immediately asked Olima, “Where are you rushing to, small madam?"
Olima shouted, “Open the gate, sir! I don't have time to explain.”
Nathan knew this was how Olima usually ran out whenever Mrs. Gina sent her on an errand.
He pulled the smaller gate open, and Olima immediately rushed out of their compound and onto the estate road like a madwoman.
A red car almost knocked Olima down as she rushed onto the road and ran up to the estate gate like a madwoman.
The red car was also driving out along the estate street to exit the estate road.
The driver shouted at Olima, “Hey! Watch where you're rushing next time!"
Olima didn't respond and ignored the angry driver in the red flashy car as she continued running toward the estate exit gate, oblivious to anyone staring at her.
Inside the red car sat a handsome black man named Justin Robert. He was 21 years old, and his parents wanted him to take over their multimillion-dollar empire and real estate business.
Justin's father was the actual owner of the estate and sold the lands and houses to other top-notch billionaires in their city.
Justin's heart skipped a beat when he saw the pretty young lady run out into the road. He had been admiring her and looking for a way to ask her out.
He didn't even know that was her family house, as he had been wondering which building she lived in since he mostly saw her on the way.
Justin knew that billionaire families lived in his father's estate, called “The Emerson Housing Estate.”
With the sunset and the moonlight above the sky, Justin's car drove past Olima as he was going out to one of his favorite places, the clubhouse.
Justin hated business-related topics and didn't find anything business-related interesting, except for his drawings, watching movies, and hanging out with pretty ladies who were ready to get down in bed with him .
However, he felt his heart race when he saw Olima again.
Seeing how pretty she looked as she carelessly ran toward the estate exit gate, not minding how her figure moved and bounced with her steady running toward the gate.
He admired her and wanted to speak to her, by asking her out, even as Jesse drove the red car past her.
Justin ordered, “Jesse, stop the car.”
Jesse was taken aback by Justin's order and asked, “I should do what, boss?”
“Stop the car.”
"Okay, boss.” Jesse was Justin's personal driver and bodyguard. So, he marched the brakes.
Justin was wearing a red long-sleeve shirt with black trousers and black shoes, looking breathtakingly handsome as he usually took care of his appearance.
He knew that first impressions mattered, and he anticipated asking Olima out as his girlfriend. After his car stopped ahead of her.
Olima stopped running toward the estate exit gate when she saw the red car that had earlier yelled at her stop ahead.
She wondered why the car had stopped, thinking the driver might want to reprimand her.
Meanwhile, Jesse looked back and asked Justin, “Boss, do you need anything?"
Jesse Andrew was a 30-year-old black man. He was wearing a white shirt with black pants and white boots.
Justin replied, “No, Jesse, just wait here first.”
Justin was nervous after seeing Olima stop. It was his first time asking a lady out. He knew that most young ladies typically threw themselves at him, but now he had to approach the pretty young lady first, because he had been seeing around. But couldn't approach her, knowing her father would also be a billionaire in their estate.
Olima hadn't had the opportunity to go back upstairs to her room to change out of her light blue gown, which provocatively revealed her shape.
She slowed down, walking up the estate road, wondering why the red car had stopped.
She saw the side door of the red car open, and a pair of black shoes stepped out first.
Olima was afraid, thinking the car owner truly wanted to scold her for running out onto the road without checking for oncoming cars.
However, she saw a tall, handsome man step out of the red car and say to her, “Hi.”
Olima froze in her spot and looked up at the tall man's face standing in front of her.
She shook her head and replied, “No, please excuse me, sir.”
Olima immediately took to her heels, shaking her head to indicate no interest. Then she ran past him after meeting his desirous gaze.
Just before Justin could say, “Wait,” Olima had run away, faster than before, toward the estate exit gate.
She exited the gate and ran out to get a cab.
"Damn it!" Justin cursed, and Jesse only smiled from the driver's seat of the car, as he saw how Olima had run past Justin and her reaction when she saw Justin step out of the car.
Justin frustratingly got back into his car and sat in the back seat. He ordered Jesse, “Start the car.”
"Alright, boss.” Jesse waited for Justin to fasten his seatbelt before starting the car. Then he ignited the engine, and driving off.
---
Olima's heart was still pounding loudly in her chest after she exited the estate gate.
She was waiting to get a taxi to take her to the nearby local market, breathing out in relief and wondering what the handsome man wanted from her.
Olima didn't know the man, and she couldn't wait to hear him out either. So, she quickly calculated all the soup ingredients that she needed to buy from the local market, knowing the main market would have already closed.
Olima knew she could still get some food items from the local sellers along the road. She hailed a taxi and got inside. Then she arrived at the local market area as the night fall.
She got out of the taxi after paying the driver for her ride, and she rushed toward one of the roadside sellers to buy all the ingredients she needed to prepare the delicious vegetable soup.
Olima had only learned how to cook five months ago after losing her parents and wasn't very good at it, but it was manageable.
She never used to cook when her mother was alive, as they had a cook, but now, she had to learn how to please her stepmother.
Olima quickly paid the market seller for all the ingredients and vegetable leaves she bought and finished her purchases.
Night had fallen, so, she frowned, knowing her stepmother would complain.
Olima had forgotten to ask her stepmother for money earlier in the morning when Mia was going to school, and she was also pleading with her stepmother about resuming her tutorial classes.
In the afternoon, she forgot to go to her stepmother's shop as she was helping Mia with her school assignments.
Olima knew her Stepmother's shop, and she sighed, standing beside the road, and waiting for a taxi to take her home.
