Chapter 8 - Gareth family tree

Nick's POV

I have never actually cared what the people do around me for their living. It was always about myself which I cared about. Till now I just believed that money can buy anything, including friends. But these three were never after my money. They stayed with me just because of my father. Tom is an architect by profession, Dean is engaged in dairy business and Lewis works as a wildlife photographer. They compromised their jobs just to be with me on my father's request. I still remember how they used to protect me whenever there was a chance to fight. After they came to my friends circle, most of the money sucking guys left and now I can imagine how.

"Tom, can I ask you a favor? I mean to all three of you." I asked.

"Just command." They said together.

"I always believed that people like me just because of my money. In the last 29 years of my life, I never had a true friend. After meeting you tonight I realized that you were never after my money. Can you three be my friends for real? I mean not because of my father's command and not because I am going to be your future Alpha. I need true friends whom I can trust with my life." I said,

"That will be our honor. To be your friend is in itself a huge recognition. We will be delighted to be with you as your friends." Tom said on everyone's behalf.

Fred left me with them to meet others. Lewis introduced me to other werewolves who were left. In between they gave me more information about the pack and how it's to be on the full moon day. Dean shared his experience in fighting with other packs outside the province. Dean had a well built body showing his muscular power. Dinner was ready and for the first time I enjoyed the dinner with my true friends.

Today is definitely going to be an important day of my life. I got a brother and true friends. I learnt that there are many people who care for me, in fact love me other than my parents. This world is not as bad as I thought. But still I felt reluctant to be a part of this world. I hope I will get used to the reality I have been trying to escape for my whole life. After dinner, everyone started to disperse.

I followed Fred and this time my other four cousins accompanied us. We haven't seen them on the way coming here as they came earlier to make all the arrangements. That's when I remembered that I hadn't seen their car where we parked Fred's.

"How did you all come here? I mean I haven't seen any cars on the way." I asked.

"Actually, we came here with uncle Louis. He went back about 20 minutes before you came. We usually come together so that the outer world would not suspect anything weird. I mean it's weird to see four cars disappearing in the Woods. Fred knew about that and that's why he brought his six seater car tonight." Kevin, my second cousin said,

We had already reached near the car and it seemed like it took less time than earlier. We entered the car and Fred took it back out of the woods. The trees moved automatically when the car approached and gave way to the road. Fred stopped the car on the side of the road and my fourth cousin Victor got out and pressed something on the screen that appeared on the tree and soon the path closed.

"Is the code always the same?" I asked.

"No, it changes every time and the family members will be informed of the code an hour before they can enter." Fred explained.

"So is this the place where you come on the day of the full moon?" I asked again.

"Most probably yes, but in case we are out of station because we couldn't reach here for some reason, we stay behind the closed doors. Every member tries their best to be here on that day." Fred said,

"Does this mean that I have to come on the next full moon day?" I was a little worried.

"I am sorry but that power vests in your father. He is the one who can permit any member to excuse on that day." Fred explained.

"I don't think uncle Louis will ever give you permission for that. He has been waiting for years to see you as a member of the pack." My third cousin Melvin opined.

"I think the same but I always have a savior." I smiled.

"Aunt Nimmi is just exceptional. She does support you and take your side just because she loves you. That doesn't mean she hates or regrets being a werewolf. She does her duty as the Luna of our pack just phenomenal. I don't think she can support you anymore as you are now a member of the pack." Fred stated.

"I will think about that later. Please drop me first at my apartment. I am really tired." I said,

"Sorry but I can't drop you at your apartment. Uncle Louis has ordered me to take you to Gareth's house." Fred said, making me worried.

I looked at my watch and it's twelve in the midnight. We had already covered half the distance and on the way dropped Kevin and Victor at uncle Johnson's place. My father actually has three younger brothers and a sister who is married to a human. She lives in London with her family and seldom comes to visit us. Dad actually helped her through his magic not to pass on her werewolf genes to her children. Only her husband knows her truth and helps her on the day of the full moon. She has two children and they don't know anything about us.

Fred's father Fernando is dad's immediate brother. Fred is his only child as his wife passed away when Fred was five. Uncle Fernando didn't get married again and devoted his life to raising Fred and his sacrifice was worth it. He really succeeded in raising a good son. His second brother is Martin and he has three children Melvin, Percy and Lily. Percy and Lily are twins and my youngest cousins. My dad's youngest brother is Johnson and his sons are Kevin and Victor.

After dropping Kevin and Victor, Fred next dropped Melvin at his place and Percy at uncle Martin's place. Then we went straight to uncle Fernando's house which is also Fred's place. After his marriage he didn't want to leave his father and his wife supported him. Now Fred's wife Selena is more close to uncle Fernando. You might be thinking how I know so much about the Gareth family when I have always maintained a distance between them. Then the answer is my mom. She has made it an unwritten rule for me. I have to give some time every week to hear her out. She keeps me updated about family matters. I have never talked to my cousins more than 2 words. Today is an exemption.

Uncle Fernando was waiting with Selena outside their house. As soon as the car entered the gate Selena rushed to Fred's side and asked.

"Is it that important to take dad out late at night? You know very well about his health. It's time for his rest." Selena was really angry.

"I know darling and you know I would never take him out if it wasn't that important. Uncle Louis has kept a meeting at his house and all the brothers are present. You just don't worry, I promise that I will take care of him. Just go and sleep." Fred said, kissing her hands.

'Is this for real' I wondered.

Does this kind of love still exist? She really seemed to be really caring about uncle Fernando. Mom really likes Selena and hopes to get a daughter in law just like her. According to mom Selena has qualities of a typical Indian girl. I sometimes doubt if she is deliberately forcing me to marry that Indian girl just to get a good daughter in law.

Uncle Fernando got in the back seat and soon we headed to the Gareth house. When we reached, uncle Martin and uncle Johnson were already present. Mom came and hugged me and whispered.

"I am so happy that you finally became a member of the pack."

"Why did dad call this meeting?" I asked in a low voice.

"You can know it yourself. Just be patient." She said,

"I will wait in the car dad." Fred said and was about to leave when dad stopped him.

"Fred, you can stay. It's nothing you shouldn't know. Make yourself comfortable." Dad said pointing to the empty couch.

"Thank you uncle Louis but I don't want to break the rule." Fred refused.

"Fred, you are already married and have a son. This is not a meeting about the pack but about Nick."

Dad's words made me more nervous. I had a feeling that it's not going to be good for me. Was my decision to join the pack wrong? Will I ever be able to live my life freely as before? I am afraid to take the responsibility of the Alpha. This isn't my place nor my world. I was happy with my life. I was able to live according to my will and wish and now it's going to change either for good or for bad.
