Chapter 9 - Knowing more

Nick's POV

"We have found a girl for Nick." Dad said and everyone got excited.

"Who is it and is the girl from our pack or any other?" Uncle Johnson asked.

"She is the daughter of Paulson Rozario. Her name is Eleana." Mom said and all three uncles fell silent for a few moments.

"Is it the same Paulson Rozario, who works in a bank?" Fred asked.

"Yes, we have known him for years. He is a very nice man." Dad replied.

"But he is a human. That means the girl you found for Nick is a human?" Fred asked in shock.

"Fred, Louis would have thought about it before taking the decision. We should respect his decision and not question him." Uncle Fernando warned Fred.

"I'm sorry uncle Louis, I didn't mean to hurt your emotions. You are his parents and you will definitely choose the best for him." Fred said apologetically.

"But Louis, as far as I know, Paulson never brought his family to the US. He is an Indian, right?" Uncle Martin asked.

"He is actually an Anglo Indian, I mean he has English roots." Dad explained.

"So you haven't seen the girl yet?" Uncle Fernando asked.

"No, we have just seen her photographs and she is just beautiful." Mom said,

"He had an accident a few years back and he was seriously injured, right?" Uncle Johnson asked and dad nodded in agreement.

"Is his daughter born after that accident?" Uncle Johnson asked again.

"Yes, I believe so." Dad said,

"That's great news then. Did you decide on a date for the wedding?" Uncle Fernando asked.

"Well in 2 months time. That's the maximum I can wait for him to settle down." Dad said adamantly.

"So are they coming here to Columbia?" Fred asked.

"No, we will be going to India for the wedding. You know we can't take any risk with his wedding. If the enemies get to know about the wedding, they are definitely going to ruin it. Moreover they can't bring all their relatives here. Eleana is the only daughter in their family and they have lots of hope about her wedding." Dad explained.

"Louis, we should be the one making all the arrangements for the wedding, but is that possible if the wedding is going to be held in India?" Uncle Martin asked.

"Nimmi will go there a month before the wedding. We will send someone with her to help her with the arrangements." Dad opined.

"That's the perfect plan. Lily will be all excited to go with Nimmi." Uncle Martin said,

"So will Rosita. She really likes to spend time with Nimmi." Uncle Johnson said,

"Selena will also be really excited if it was not for dad's health. I don't think she will agree to leave dad alone." Fred said,

"She is the best gift we have got in our lives." Uncle Fernando said happily.

"I am not that sick that I can't take care of myself. Selena will go with Nimmi to India. She needs a vacation. She didn't even go for honeymoon just because of me." Uncle Fernando said,

"But dad, you know her, she will not leave you alone. You saw how angry she was today just because I was taking you out at night." Fred said,

"Yes I do but this time I am going to threaten her. I will say that I will move out of the house if she doesn't go to India." Uncle Fernando said confidently.

I don't understand why they are all discussing a wedding which is not going to happen. I am not going to marry the daughter of an ugly man. How could my parents even think about marrying me to an ordinary girl? No one can deny that I am the most eligible bachelor in the country. In the last couple of years a lot of businessmen have approached us with marriage proposals for their beautiful daughters. It was always my decision not to marry any of them. Then why are my parents so adamant this time? Why do they want me to marry an ordinary human? I have to do something before it's too late.

"Dad, you gave me a month's time to find a girl I like. Then why are you discussing this wedding now? The one month is not yet over." I said,

"I never back off from my words. What I said still exists. You have already wasted 2 days of the one month. I am confident that you will not find anyone in this one month and that's why I am making arrangements for your wedding. We can't just plan a wedding all of a sudden. We have a lot of preparations to do." Dad said,

"But what if I find someone in this one month? All the arrangements you are making will go in vain." I opined.

"I said that we are making arrangements here in Columbia and not in India. The preparations in India will start only after the one month I have given you. So just calm down and work on finding someone." Dad literally mocked me.

"Well we can plan a destination wedding to make all the ladies happy because I am definitely going to find someone who is not foreign." I fired back.

"All the best, Nick." Fred gave me a thumbs up.

"By the way, you are going to stay here for the next few days until the full moon." Dad said, making me gasp.

"Why?"

"As you are a member of the pack now, you should be there on the full moon night. Since you haven't been there your entire life, your mom wants to give you the full knowledge of such nights." Dad explained.

"What do you mean? I mean it's just a night like all other rights except for the change in your body. What can anyone do at night rather than sleep? So I don't think there is anything to learn about those meetings." Everyone started to laugh hearing my words.

"No Nick, it's different. You will know when you attend it by yourself." Fred said,

"I will tell you everything Nick, but not now." Mom said,

Everyone left after some more discussions and finalizing the venue for the wedding reception here in Columbia. Uncle Johnson and uncle Martin even promised to send their wives next day to decide about the wedding dress and other arrangements. I just escaped to my room and soon fell asleep.

Next morning I was woken up by my mom's prayers. She recites her prayers every morning because she is still not a Christian both by heart and records. When dad married mom, everyone insisted on converting her religion. But dad stood by mom's side and gave her permission to preach her own religion. She taught me about both religions and always says that whatever the religion or belief is there is only one God to whom we will all return one day. So I used to go to church as well as to gurudwara with mom and dad. It's been a long time since I visited these places. I got up and went to the washroom. First I thought of just doing the morning rituals and then decided to take a bath. Mom had taught me to do the prayers only after taking a bath. She likes it when I follow her path. That way she might understand me and make dad back away from his decision.

When I came down, mom and dad had already started their breakfast. As soon as I joined them, dad got a call and he had to leave immediately. On the way he reminded me to attend the meeting with an important client on his behalf. I quickly messaged Roy to bring all the files needed for the meeting to the Gareth house.

"So how do you feel after knowing that Roy is a werewolf?" Mom asked all of a sudden.

"You knew from the beginning!" I exclaimed.

"Of course I know, after all I am the luna of the pack. I am equally responsible for the wellbeing of each member of the pack just like your dad." Mom said,

"Mom, how did they accept you despite the fact that you are not a Christian. I mean you still believe and pray to your Guru rather than Jesus." I asked.

"Well that depends on the perspective of thinking. I have taught you whatever the religion is, whatever the belief is there is only one God. I won't say that there isn't or wasn't any objections but the majority believed in me and that's why I was able to take the responsibility. You will never face a problem like that. You have Gareth's blood and no one will ever question you." Mom said,

"By the way mom, why do you want me to stay here until the full moon?" I asked.

"There's a lot of things that I can't just explain through the phone. I want you to be well prepared before you witness everything. You have always escaped from facing this day throughout your life. I won't lie but I was scared to death when I first saw everything with my eyes. The full moon day brings a lot of changes not just to our body but also to the inner self. We change and most of us don't have the power to control ourselves. That's the reason why it's insisted to be with your pack on the particular day." She said,

"What changes and why haven't I ever experienced any such changes?" I asked.

"Because you always take sleeping pills on that day. It's been a routine for you from the time you started understanding medicines. I just don't want you to understand about others but also about yourself. You don't know your other part. You have no idea what changes will be there on your body and mind." Mom said,

"Please Don't scare me mom. I still don't want to come to those meetings. I will continue with my medication." I said,

"You can't escape it just with medications anymore because you have gotten marked. On the full moon day the mark will be visible to everyone and not just to our kind." She said,

"That means if I had chosen my hand, I would have to hide my hand for the whole day." I said,

"Yes and that's what you have been doing your entire life. You were trying to escape from yourself. But now you have to face the reality. It's time to come out of the shell you have created around you. Know yourself before you bring someone into your life." She said,

"This is all again related with that stupid wedding. I am being forced to accept the reality just because I have to get married." I just flared in anger. She kept her magical hands on my forehead which always worked from childhood to calm me down.
