Chapter 7 - The oath

Present Day

Blayn’s POV



I will never forget the heartbreak of that day, the absolute pain in Alpha John and Luna Anne’s faces. When everything was cleaned up, they called us into the meeting room in the packhouse. I looked over and saw Kaitlin still finishing her workout before I was sucked back into the memory.

“Can I have everyone’s attention, please?” Alpha John called out, and the room quieted instantly. “Thank you. Thank you, everyone, for your fierce loyalty to Silver Lake today. I know most are now in a state of confusion. I hope I can answer some questions.” He started, “Adam was behind the attack today. For those of you who are new to us, Adam was my adopted nephew. He was banished from our pack after it was proved that there was molestation against a fellow pack member. As we all know, that behavior is unacceptable.” His voice wavered.

“It looks like he lured Luna Sara out to him. We found a note that presented Adam had Mark chained up, and Sara would go in his stead if she wanted Mark to live. We don't know when the letter was from, or that she was missing. Luna Sara was supposed to be visiting her family. Adam believed a prophecy from a witch that had stayed there. She had stated there was a possibility that Adam would rule as Alpha with Kaitlin as his chosen mate. Together, they would rule as the Alpha King and Queen.

The witch failed to mention that Kaitlin had to be willing to take him as a chosen mate should he present himself worthy. The information was part of a test from the moon goddess for Adam.” Everyone in the room was dead silent, allowing John to continue.

“We have decided to share with you all the truth. We, I, ask each one of you now to swear an oath. The information we are about to divulge is secret. Should anyone disclose the following information, you will find a very unpleasant death following close behind.” I shuttered. “What do you want us to do, Alpha?” Someone said in the back of the room.

“I will ask you for your loyalty and allegiance to us forever. With this oath, your word will be bound to the Goddess of the Silver Lake. She is the keeper of the oath and will seek her revenge for breaking such a sacred oath.” His voice was deep and unearthly. I was confused. The Goddess of the Silver Lake?

“Yes, Alpha.” The same person said, crossing his arm over his heart in respect. The whole pack followed, myself and mate included.

“If you do not wish to be a part of this pack, take this pledge, or if you have harmful intentions in your heart, I ask you to leave now. If you wish to leave the pack,

I grant you this blessing.” No one moved. He nods his approval of our inactivity. “Very well. I, Alpha John Hamil, call upon her grace of the Silver Lake. I ask her to bind this oath to her and our continued fealty, for her protection and grace among our people. Lady, I ask you to bless the oath we swear to you today, to bind us with you, to protect your secrets in life, and to bring about death by breaking this sacred vow. To seal this, we all swear, In veritate juramus.” I had the sudden urge to declare with my life the exact phrase, as did everyone else. In unison, we all said, “In veritate juramus.”

I felt a spark run through my heart, and suddenly, my eyes were opened. Standing next to Alpha John was a beautiful woman. She was moving fluidly, and I realized she was a goddess. Holy shït. What the hell? Has there always been a goddess besides Selene protecting us?

"Accipio.” We heard her beautiful voice echoing through the room. I was stunned. I rubbed my eyes, and she was gone.

“Now, the truth, Kaitlin, is our firstborn.” The room was silent. I am sure my mouth dropped open, along with everyone else's.

“We are a very special type of wolf, and we are descendants of Selene. The gods have protected us for centuries for who and what we are. We have been endlessly hunted for our gifted females by impure wolves looking to take power for their own. Our powers only manifest after a test from Selene. The test is not for us alone, but also for our mates. We birth females first, and if she possesses the gift, she is held with the goddess until we have a son. My brother and I are a rare set of males birthed in our lineage without having a female in our generation.

Our son, Mark, was presented as the oldest. This is for Kaitlin's protection. Once he turned four, Selene returned Kaitlin and gave our pack memories of having a secondborn daughter because she was the strongest gifted wolf born in millennia. None of you remember that Anne was pregnant before Mark. We got our daughter back, and everything appeared normal to you all, but we had to raise Kaitlin according to the Goddesses' wishes. She was not to be identified as a female Alpha. We have not had a wolf with all the gifts given by Selene in generations. The rumors about us are lost, so there are no wars or constant attacks on our family and pack. Very few know what we indeed are. If they do find out, they find themselves at death's door very quickly,” he states.
