Suppressing Her Powers

Okenna smiled as he collected the necklace from the chief priest.

" Thank you so much ezemo(chief priest). I will do as you have said." Okenna said with a smile.

Even though he would not be able to kill the child, at least he was happy that he would suppress her powers.

But would this be able to help him achieve his ambition without any hindrance? Okenna could not help but ask himself.

" Ezemo ( chief priest), will this necklace prevent the child from interfering with my ambition of becoming the next king?" Okenna asked the question that had been bugging him.

" Yes, as long as she doesn't take it off." The chief priest said.

" Lastly, don't ever try to kill her because you won't succeed. Even though her powers will be suppressed, her power for protection is always active." The chief priest told Okenna in a serious tone.

" Okay, I will keep that in mind ezemo ( chief priest)," Okenna said even though he was not happy about it.

With that, Okenna made his way out of the shrine.

He was in a joyous mood. Not too long from now, he would become the king of Umueze.

He would surely deal with all those who bad-mouthed and looked down on him when he became the king. Those people did not know the fate that was awaiting them! Okenna thought with a smirk.

The journey from Umuotu to Umueze took Okenna five days to get to his destination.

"My husband, you are welcome. You look so tired. Let me get you some water to drink." Oluchi, Okenna's wife said as she collected his back from him and quickly went in to get him some water.

Okenna was too tired to utter a word so he just nodded to everything Oluchi said.

Soon, Oluchi returned with a jar of water and a cup. She carefully filled the cup and gave it to her husband.

Okenna drank cup after cup until the sixth cup before he felt his thirst satiated.

Okenna sighed softly. What a journey! But it was worth it. Okenna thought to himself.

" How did your journey go? Did you succeed in getting the charm?" Oluchi asked anxiously.

Okenna had told her about his plans to eliminate his brother and take the throne some days after their marriage.

Oluchi had fully supported him. She had always imagined herself being the Lolo(queen) of Umueze. So she saw it as an opportunity to actualize her dream of being the Lolo(queen).

" Calm down my wife," Okenna said with a smile. Women are really something else.

It was Oluchi who told him about the chief priest of Umuotu when he told her about his plans.

But then he thought that the chief priest of Umuagu was the most powerful so he did not visit him until five days ago when he needed to try another place.

" Well, it didn't go as we planned but it's still good," Okenna told Oluchi truthfully.

" What do you mean by 'it didn't go as we planned'?" Oluchi asked curiously.

" Well, the ezemo (chief priest) of Umuagu said that the child Chibuike's wife is carrying is a special child with supernatural powers." Okenna was saying when Oluchi suddenly cut him off.

" Ewoooo! (lamenting). What have we gotten ourselves into? This is all your fault. What if the child decides to kill all of us? Oluchi cried out blaming Okenna for the impending danger looming over them.

" Woman! Will you keep your mouth shut and allow me to finish what I was saying?" Okenna snapped at Oluchi angrily.

Okenna could not help but be a little regretful of telling Oluchi his plans.

This made Oluchi shut her mouth immediately.

" I travelled to Umuotu to seek for powers to kill the child. But the ezemo (chief priest) told me that I could not kill her. He gave me a necklace that will suppress her powers as long as she has it on." Okenna said cutting the story short as he showed her the necklace.

Oluchi's eyes brightened. Why did he not say so earlier but allowed her to waste her tears for nothing? Oluchi thought to herself.

" You should have told me earlier instead of allowing me to lament for nothing." Oluchi voiced out her thoughts.

" I was about to say that before you rudely cut me off," Okenna argued.

" I don't have time for this argument. So how do you plan on putting the necklace on her?" Oluchi said changing the topic of discussion.

" I don't know yet. I have not really thought about it. Moreover, we still have up to three months before she puts to birth." Okenna said tiredly.

" Don't say that. How can you tell when she will deliver when you are not her husband? We need to plan so that it doesn't take us by surprise." Oluchi said pointedly.

" Okay, madam 'know it all'. Do you have any way of getting the necklace on the child without any suspicion?" Okenna said defeatedly and at the same time asked Oluchi how they could put the necklace on Chibuike's child without suspicion.

" Well, that's simple. We will all pretend to love your brother and do things that will make him think that we are watching his back."

" When his wife gives birth, we will present the necklace to them for protection. We will tell him that the necklace has special powers in warding off evil spirits." Oluchi said with a smile.
