Tomorrow would be a great day. Okenna thought silently as he retired to bed with a smile on his face.
Oluchi was at home preparing food when her mind suddenly ran to her husband.
She really hoped he had succeeded in killing his brother and his family. If not, they would all end up dead. Oluchi subconsciously shuddered from the thought of being dead.
She silently prayed that the gods would grant her husband success.
" Otutu-oma nne( good morning mother)." Ogbonna greeted with a smile as he met his mother in the kitchen.
" Otutu-oma nwam( good morning my child), food will soon be ready," Oluchi said with a smile.
" Where is Olamma?" Oluchi asked with a smile.
" She is still asleep." Ogbonna simply said.
" Now quickly go and wake her up," Oluchi said as she gently pushed Ogbonna out of the kitchen.
Ogbonna nodded and ran off to call his younger sister.
" Otutu-oma nne ( good morning mother)." Olamma greeted her as soon as she got into the kitchen.
" Good morning Ada mo( my first daughter). Hope you slept well?" Oluchi responded and asked at the same time.
" Yes, mother," Olamma responded with a smile.
Just as Oluchi finished serving the food, there was a knock at the door.
" Okay kids, finish your food while I check who is at the door," Oluchi said as she made her way to the main door.
" Good morning Lolo( Queen). Igwe (king) request your presence and that of the children at the palace." The guard greeted her and said with a bow.
Oluchi's joy knew no bounds when she heard the guard call her ( Lolo).
This could mean only one thing, her husband had successfully annihilated Chibuike and his family.
" Okay. Tell him that we will be there very soon " Oluchi said with a smile.
The guard nodded and took his leave.
" Ahhhhh!" Oluchi screamed excitedly. This had Ogbonna and Olamma running to her.
" Nne (mother) what is it? Did the visitor harm you in any way?" Ogbonna asked as he inspected his mother's body for any injury.
He sighed in relief when he found no injury on his mother.
" Nne (mother), you have not answered Ogbonna. Why were you screaming like that?" Olamma asked in confusion, not understanding what made her mother screamed like that.
" I'm sorry I scared you. I'm just excited." Oluchi said with a smile but she felt bad for scaring her children with her scream.
" Excited about what?" Ogbonna and Olamma asked at the same time.
" Well, do you remember the talk about your father being the new Igwe ( king) of Umueze?" Oluchi turned to Ogbonna and asked.
Olamma looked at them in confusion not understanding what they were talking about.
Ogbonna responded positively to his mother's question not really understanding where she was going.
" Your father is now the king of Umueze and he wants us to join him now." Oluchi took a deep breath before letting the cat out of the bag.
For some minutes, both children stood speechless. None moved or said a word.
" Nne (mother), you can't be serious. We all know that Uncle Chibuike is the king of Umueze. So what are you saying?" Olamma said and asked at the same time.
" Well, let's say your father took care of that and now he is the king. Now that makes you a princess and Ogbonna a prince." Oluchi said coyly not wanting to give them the details of how their father became the king.
After all, they were just kids. They don't need to know how their father killed his brother and took over his throne. Oluchi thought silently.
Olamma's face brightened up with what her mother said about her being a princess and her brother a prince.
She smiled as she imagined the look on her friends' faces when they found out that she was now a princess.
Oluchi smiled as she saw the smiling faces of Ogbonna and Obama.
She had successfully gotten out of the hook. These children asked questions like adults. One would not believe that they were just ten years and seven years old.
How could seven-year-old Olamma question her like an adult? Oluchi thought silently.
" Now that we've cleared the air, I want you to wear your best clothes as we will be leaving for the palace in the next ten minutes," Oluchi said as she pushed them to their rooms to get dressed.
The chiefs were gathered in the throne room awaiting the presence of the king.
A message was passed out to them early morning to assemble at the palace for an emergency meeting.
They all rushed to the meeting wondering why King Chibuike would summon them suddenly.
Their eyes nearly popped out of their sockets when they saw Okenna walking majestically to the throne instead of King Chibuike.
Some of them had to use their hands to wipe their faces to make sure they were not actually not dreaming.
" Alu(abomination)!" The onouwo(kingmaker) screamed while the other chief shook their heads sadly.
" Where is king Chibuike?" Echei( chief) Udoka asked making everyone look at Okenna with questioning eyes.
Okenna smiled widely as if they were amusing him.
" Well, to answer your question, let's say I killed him and his wife Ebubechi. Their daughter is so lucky I was not able to kill her yesterday but I will still find a way to end her miserable life so that she can happily join her parents in the world beyond." Okenna said with a smile.
" Alu( abomination)!" All the chiefs screamed.
