Okenna smiled to himself. Finally, his threat had been taken care of.
He had earlier felt the baby's immersive powers as soon as she was birthed.
He had managed to keep his composure. The baby's powers were choking him.
He had almost ran out of the palace when it became difficult to breathe.
Just as he made to leave the palace, he felt the power decrease drastically like deflating tyre.
He happily sat back.
Now that the first problem is solved, he needed to plan for the other one. Okenna thought silently.
King Chibuike's joy knew no bounds. His wife of five years had finally given him a child.
Indeed the gods were wise! King Chibuike thought happily.
He smiled happily as he took the baby from his wife. He raised her and said with a loud voice.
"May the gods of our land bless you all the days of your life. May evil be far from you."
" Isee(amen)." Queen Ebubechi and her handmaids replied to the king's prayers.
" You shall be called Adaeze ( first daughter of a king) because you are my first child."
Adaeze, what a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. Queen Ebubechi thought happily as she admired her baby in her husband's hands.
She was truly a beauty. Her beauty glows like the morning sun.
Queen Ebubechi was grateful that the gods have her the privilege of being the mother of such a beauty.
" May the gods be praised. They have put our enemies to shame." King Chibuike exclaimed excitedly.
" I will see you later. Let me go and share this news with Okenna." King Chibuike said as he made his way out of the queen's chamber.
" Sorry for keeping you waiting." King Chibuike apologized to Okenna as soon as he got back to the throne room.
" It's nothing. I understand the joy that comes with fatherhood." Okenna said with a smile.
" Thank you for everything you have been doing for my family. May the gods of our land bless you richly." King Chibuike said, as he thanked his brother for his kindness and also prayed for him.
" You don't need to thank me for that. After all, you are my only family. If I don't do it for you, who else will I do it for?" Okenna said with a smile.
King Chibuike nodded in agreement. He was happy to have a brother like Okenna.
" Did you put the necklace on her?" Okenna asked curiously pretending not to know that the necklace had been placed on the baby.
" I put it on her as soon as I set my eyes on her." King Chibuike stated pointedly.
" That's good to hear. At least, your enemies won't be able to harm her no matter what they do." Okenna said with a forced smile.
It was true that no one would be able to harm the child no matter how hard they tried.
That fact alone made Okenna feel angry. But he managed to keep a smiling face.
" Ogechi, go and tell the town crier to announce the birth of the princess. And to inform the villagers of the grand party taking place in the palace." King Chibuike said to one of the guards.
The guard bowed and quickly left to do his duty.
" I will be on my way now. I need to tell my wife about this great news." Okenna said with a smile.
He needed to see his wife and tell her about the happening. So that they could plan what to do.
" Alright then. Extend my regards to everyone." King Chibuike said with a smile.
" I will do that. Please take care of Lolo( queen) and the baby." Okenna said with a smile as he made his way out of the palace.
King Chibuike nodded and smiled as he watched Okenna leave the palace.
" Nno( welcome) dear," Oluchi said as soon as Okenna walked into the house.
" How was your day?" Oluchi asked after giving him a cup of water.
" It was fine. I have good news for you." Okenna said with a smile.
Oluchi looked at Okenna curiously wondering what the good news would be.
Could it be that Chibuike and his wife were already dead? Oluchi asked aloud.
" Not yet dear," Okenna said with a smirk.
Oluchi looked at Okenna shocked as she thought he had read her thoughts.
" You said your thoughts out," Okenna said pointedly.
" Oh, okay." Oluchi simply said looking away.
" So what is the good news that you are talking about when Chibuike is not dead yet?" Oluchi asked impatiently.
Okenna smiled. This wife of his could be really impatient at times.
" Well, Ebubechi gave birth to a baby girl." Okenna started to say but Oluchi cut him off quickly.
" So you call Ebubechi successfully giving birth 'good news'? What kind of man are you? They are supposed to be your enemies remember?" Oluchi yelled furiously.
" Woman! Will keep quiet and allow me to finish. Who said I was happy because Ebubechi gave birth successfully?" Okenna said and asked angrily.
If that was not the reason he was happy what could it be? Oluchi asked herself silently but dared not say a word.
" I was going to say that I convinced Chibuike to put the necklace on the baby, which he did. So the baby is no longer a threat to us." Okenna said with a smile.
" You should have said that instead of making it seem like you were happy for Ebubechi," Oluchi said with a smile.
" But you were the one who cut me off," Okenna said pointedly.
" Whatever. Now let's plan out how we will take over the throne." Oluchi said with a smile.
Okenna and his family became very close to king Chibuike and his family.
King Chibuike never suspected his brother of having evil intentions for him and his family.
Okenna secretly gathered men and trained them for battle.
He patiently used five years to plan for annihilating his brother and his family.
Okenna smiled to himself as he looked at himself in the mirror.
He was now the king of Umueze. This was a dream come true for him.
His wife and children would be joining him the next day.
He would deal with Adaeze the next day. Okenna thought silently.
