Chapter 6: After The Training

1970 Words
THE training ended promptly at 5pm and Kayleigh gave us some reminders before letting us go. Tomorrow, we will have communications training with someone and we will be training with those in the same account. We weren’t sure how many trainees will be there per team, but we were told to head to the assigned training rooms instead of the company auditorium. I was glad that I will still be training with my friends Gina and Marie since we will be assigned to the same team. They have been great and have explained to me how things work on the operations floor. Marie had to go first since she said she had someone fetching her. She didn’t want to confirm if it was her boyfriend, but with the looks she was giving us, we’re pretty sure it’s a man. Gina and I walked out of the office at the same time but she was able to catch a ride right away. I was left waiting in the terminal near the office for a bus by myself. I sat down since I wasn’t sure when the next bus would be coming and just looked around to observe the different establishments that I could see around when I heard some squeaky voices seemingly calling me out. I looked up and it’s Dianne, one of my co-trainees who liked to wear plunging necklines and two of her friends looking down on me. Dianne: “Well, if it’s the new boss’ plaything. What is it like getting f****d by Lance? Is he as good as advertised?” Valerie: “What are you talking about? I’m not doing that.” Minion # 1: “You don’t have to deny it, girl. We’re pretty sure that’s how you got hired. We heard you don’t even have any BPO background, how could you have gotten hired unless you gave something in return to the boss.” Valerie: “Well, I did good in my interview. That’s why I got hired.” Minion # 2: “Did the interview include the boss bending you over the table?” The three of them laughed and I was about to stand up and answer them back when we were interrupted by a car honking and stopping in front of the terminal. We all looked at the car as the window was lowered. I recognize the car as Lance’s. It doesn’t bode well for me that he’s arriving at this very moment. Lance: “Hey, girls. What’s going on here?” Dianne: “Oh, hi, Lance. I’m Dianne. Remember me? I was one of the employees you hired.” Dianne leaned her elbow against the open car window and lowered herself so as to show her cleavage to Lance. Lance: “Sure, I remember. What’s going on here? You girls are not ganging up on Valerie, are you?” Diane gave a fake laugh before saying “Of course not, boss. We’re actually befriending her but she seems hesitant. We’re being nice and everything so I don’t understand why she doesn’t want to be friends with us.” Lance looked behind Dianne and said to me, “Hey Valerie, come on in. I’ll give you a ride home.” Dianne moved herself to get Lance’s attention and said “Can you give me a ride home, too? It might take a while for the bus to arrive.” Lance looked at her, smiled and said “Then you can wait for the bus with your friends. Now, can you please move? Valerie, let’s go.” I looked at Dianne’s two  minions and stood up then walked towards Lance’s car. I said “Excuse me,” to Dianne before I opened the car door and got into the passenger seat. Lance leaned over and put my seatbelt on before sayin “Are you ready to go, babe?” I heard gasps from the three women as they heard Lance refer to me as babe. I think he did it deliberately and as I looked at him, he winked which confirmed my suspicions. After waving and saying “Bye, ladies,” to the three girls, he put the window up and drove off. I kept my head down as I felt worried and embarrassed at the same time. Lance looked at me and said “Hey, what’s wrong? They didn’t hurt, did they?” Valerie: “No, they did not. But they said things to me.” Lance: “What things?" Valerie: “Hurtful things. Things that weren’t true. And it’s all your fault.” Lance: “Me? What did I do? Didn’t I just save you from those evil b*tches?” Valerie: “They said I slept with you and that’s the reason why I got the job. They keep asking how you are in bed. You coming like that and calling me babe just gave them more ammunition against me. Now they won’t believe that we’re not sleeping together!” Lance: “Well, since they’re already thinking that we’re doing it, why don’t we do it then?” Valerie: “Do what?” Lance: “Sleep together, babe. I can take you to my condo now.” Valerie: “No, thank you. I’m not sleeping with you. You’re not even my boyfriend.” Lance: “Well, I can be your boyfriend. Would you like that?” Valerie: “No! Of course not!” Lance: “Babe, you’re really breaking my heart. No one has said no to me so adamantly before.” Valerie: “I’m sorry for offending you, but I am not like one of those girls whose panties get creamed when you wink at them. I’m waiting to fall in love before I give myself away.” Lance: “Well, I can make you fall in love with me. I can also make your panties cream.” Lance grinned sheepishly as he said the last sentence. Valerie: “Can you please stop it? I really need the job and I don’t have plans of dating anyone, especially my boss. I don’t need anyone bullying me because they think I’m getting special favors. I don’t do that and I’m going to work hard for everything that I will get.” Lance suddenly pulled the car towards the side of the road and turned to look at me. Lance: “Do you know why I’m doing this?” Valerie: “No. Why? And why me?” Lance: “It’s because I like you. From the first time I saw you, I’ve been attracted to you. The more I get to spend time with you, the more I get attracted to you. You’re so different from the usual girls I go for, and I can’t explain why. But that’s just how I feel. I’m sorry if it’s an inconvenience for you, but I plan to pursue you. I’m sorry but I can’t stop it.” Valerie: “Isn’t there a rule against inter office relationships or something?” Lance: “Don’t worry about that. It’s never been a problem for me.” I must admit that knowing that Lance likes me makes me feel good. He’s a very good-looking man who is successful and seems responsible, but dating is not in the cards for me right now. Lance: “Talk to me, babe. What’s on your mind?” Valerie: “I’m not looking to date anyone right now. I have a lot of things on my plate. Besides, you have quite a reputation when it comes to women. I don’t want to be just one of those girls.” Lance took my hands and looked me in the eyes before saying “Believe me when I say that you are different from those girls. I’ll admit I have a bit of a reputation when it comes to women, and I’m not going to deny it. But I’m willing to change for you. If you’re going to give me a chance, I’m willing to wait until you’re ready.” I looked into Lance’s eyes as well and I can see sincerity in them. Does he really mean what he is saying right now? I don’t know him that well yet so I can’t really tell. Lance: “I know you’re trying to see if I mean what I’m saying. Let me show you. Give me a chance.” I don’t know what came over me as I nodded lightly. I made sure Lance understood what I am agreeing to. Valerie: “Okay. I’ll give you a chance. Let’s get to know each other first, but I have a condition.” Lance: “What is it?” Valerie: “We need to act professional when we’re in the office. I don’t want to give the other trainees and employees ammunition against me or you.” Lance: “Okay, I understand. I will try my best.” Valerie: “Now, I believe you owe me dinner.” Lance let go of my hand as he smiled and started driving, but not before saying “Yes, ma’am.” ------------------------------------ Lance brought me to an Italian restaurant where he ordered a huge basket of fries and ice tea along with our meals. He ordered a pasta and chicken dish for me, which I enjoyed tremendously. We laughed as I told Lance about Gina and Marie. Apparently, he remembers Gina because she kept flirting with him during the interview. He said that if it were not for her extensive BPO experience, he wouldn't have hired her. Valerie: “You must be used to it by now, girls flirting with you all the time.” Lance: “Yeah, but it’s not always welcome. And I have to be careful because I don’t want them thinking I’m harassing them. Truth be told, you’re the first girl I have made the first move on. Girls usually make the first move on me.” Valerie: “Uhm, but why me? I’m not as sexy as Dianne or as pretty as the other trainees. I heard one of our batchmates is a beauty queen.” Lance: “You have no idea how beautiful you are, are you?” Valerie: “My mom tells me I’m pretty. But that’s my mom, so she’s a little biased.” Lance: “Oh, babe. You’re the prettiest girl I’ve ever met. You don’t even need makeup or to have fancy clothes on. You’re just naturally beautiful.” As Lance said that, I bowed my head while I sipped on my ice tea. He just made me blush. If he keeps complimenting me like this, I might start falling for him. Oh boy, I am in trouble.
