CHAPTER SEVEN I was losing count of how many times I had been pacing up and down in this room. Who would blame me though? I was trying to call Darleen’s number and each time it went straight to voicemail. Her father hadn’t picked up either and now I resorted to calling her mother, who was not exactly the most approachable person in the world. “What do you want?” I hadn’t excepted she would pick up but that angry, dismissive tone was enough to make me want to cut off the call. “C-Can I talk to Darleen? She isn’t picking my calls,” I said, wrecked with nervousness. This was all a big misunderstanding and I needed to clear it. I couldn’t lose her. She was everything to me and she knew that. “My daughter is devastated enough by your inconsiderate actions. So stay away from her and our family, “she cut off the call, leaving me swimming in an ocean of cusses. “Its that bad, huh?” Dean spoke. “This is all your fault, you know that? I was happily sipping my cocktail and you dragged me off to that f*****g room. Now look at the kind of mess I’m in,” I snapped. He deserved and I’m pretty sure he knew that. If he had just let me be, I would still be preparing for my wedding tomorrow. Now look at me. “You think I don’t know that? But you are also to blame. You could have said no to that pill but you didn’t. Maybe a part of you wanted to let loose too. Besides, you weren’t even sure if you wanted to marry Darleen,” He countered rather defensively. “That’s a good point,” I sat down on the edge of the bed, sighing, “So now what? We are stuck in Bangkok, a city we are not familiar with and some mafia guy has my passport and visa,” “Maybe you could start by unblocking your parents’ numbers before they rush over to Bangkok,” He pointed out. “Nope. I can’t deal with them right now. They are probably plotting my murder as we speak,” I said, lying on my back with a little plop, “Just where did I go wrong?” “Hey, its not the end of the world,” he said, lying next to me. “It is the end of my world. My parents are going to crucify me and I just lost the love of my life. We had a whole future planned, you know. This huge house in the suburbs, one kid and two German shepherds. Our beach house would be our family bonding vacation spot every summer. Everything was planned out and now what?” I searched his eyes but he just sighed, turning his attention to the ceiling above. “This is going to be harsh but, I think Ken was right. You weren’t ready to marry her. It was just something everyone else wanted for you. I mean, tell me when was the last time you actually talked to Darleen without her calling or texting first?” “I…don’t remember. Two weeks ago perhaps?” I questioned, frowning. In my defense, I was not much of a texter or caller. I preferred one-on-one kind of conversations and Darleen knew that. I liked to see someone’s expression, the aura that danced around them when they talked and the kind of body language they relayed. It was easier to decipher if they meant what they were saying or doing by watching them. “See? Maybe you two needed a little bit of time apart to figure out what you really wanted. Judging from the video of you proposing to Lamon, it was first time I heard you saying something without it being someone else’s suggestion. You wanted to get married in Bangkok. You didn’t want the huge wedding with some expensive honeymoon in Verona. No. You just wanted here,” he chuckled in amusement, “This is why I think you two needed some time before getting married. You could figure out what you want and then you two could balance it out. Stop trying to please everybody by forgoing what you want,” “I just…I never thought about anything. I guess my future was sort of decided for me,” I sighed, feeling a strange overwhelming feeling in my chest. “So if you ever gain in contact with Darleen, maybe you should tell her the truth. Tell her what you want and if she doesn’t want to listen, then she is not the one for you,” he advised, “This trip was an eye opener for both you and me. I’d be damned if I let my best friend make the biggest mistake of his life,” “Ken would have been fist bumping you right now if he was here. Wait, where is he by the way?” I questioned, frowning a little. “I talked to him right before you woke. Apparently he was lucky enough to score himself a threesome. He was pretty hangovered when I called. That lucky bastard,” he chuckled. “Lucky him,” I agreed. Suddenly the door opened and Tawan walked in, dressed in a sleeping robe with what I assumed to be two cups of coffee in a tray. Looking at him now outside the flashing club lights, he was much more attractive even with a bare face. A guilty look stretched on his face as his gaze fell on me. “I’m sorry. This entire…situation happened because of me,” he paused and then suddenly he hit the back of my head playfully, “I’m still mad that I had to find out you from the media that you were actually not gay,” “Its called being a wingman to your best friend,” I said. “Well, you two are lucky to have each other. Not many people can afford to have this kind of friendship. I mean, I lost my entire five friends crew the moment I came out as gay. Funny, right? The people you excepted would stand by your side, are the ones who were quick to spit you out on the side like you some kind of trash,” he shook his head in sadness and then just like that, his face flashed with brightness, “Now how about you two drink that coffee and join me downstairs for breakfast?” “Is …Lamon there?” I questioned. I did not exactly think I would be capable of facing him. He may be an arrogant jerk but I kissed him first. How was I supposed to face him now? What did his lips even taste like? No, not my business. “Lamon? No, he is over at his house or at the club or, I don’t know. We mostly meet in the club,” “Wait, this isn’t his house?” I frowned visibly. “After the stunt you pulled yesterday, he didn’t want to see your face. He would have probably shot you. Now come on you two,” He chuckled, walking out of the very spacious bedroom. I turned to Dean with an accusatory glare on my face and he was quick to speak in defense, “A lot happened yesterday, okay? I mean, Lamon is a freaking mafia and the last thing I remember clear before I woke up here, was him taking your travel credentials,” “How did he even get them?” I questioned. “I don’t know much except that while I was with Tawan, you took him to our hotel. It was right close by the club, remember? When I came to find you, he was taking them from you,” He explained. “Why I did take that freaking pill?” I whined, regretting every decision I’d ever made including agreeing to add Thailand on the list. “At least we got to see a little drama in your life,” Dean took the opportunity to tease me. “Hey,” I slapped him on the arm playfully.
