CHAPTER 3 A New RealityOur training in arms continued for two more days. Afterward, I was selected to go out with an armed party under the command of Lieutenant Webster in search of good timber for the building of houses and to lade the ships returning to England so that the London Company could satisfy their expenses. I was to go with the men and select the best trees for cutting, and since my skill at arms had proven more than adequate, I was also to accompany the Lieutenant and a few soldiers on a brief scouting expedition for future timber supplies.
