Rebecca's pov "I know this must be coming as a shock to you, but I figured I had to mention it," Nurse Hilda said, still hovering, clearly determined to stay close until I responded. Her words hung in the air, and I didn’t bother to reply, hoping my silence might drive her away. But she continued, undeterred. "You see, since our sponsor is… different, he’s a very capable and powerful man.” Her tone held a reverence that only fueled my suspicion. Was she trying to sell me on this guy? What did I need all these details for, anyway? I hadn’t even given them my decision, but anyone with common sense would want the thing removed if it ever started growing. I nodded slowly, giving her just enough to keep going, and her face shifted to a more serious expression. “And because of that…” she paused, her eyes narrowing. “He can easily make our lives a living hell.” "Sorry, but our lives?" I questioned, irritation bubbling up. Why was she dragging me into this? Was it not enough that they’d already done all of this without my consent? "Yes, dear," she replied, her voice solemn. "Once he finds out there was a successful procedure that might be terminated, he’ll come after you too." Ah, so it was a threat. She was definitely trying to intimidate me, though it was almost laughable. I’m a wolf myself, I thought, keeping my expression neutral. I’ve seen my share of scumbags in my world—why would I be intimidated by someone I don’t even know? Nurse Hilda fidgeted, then leaned closer. “Anyway, I’m not trying to scare you. I just don’t want you to make the biggest mistake of your life. Maybe this was fate, you know? Destiny. Think about it—maybe you were meant to be a surrogate for a supernatural’s child. Imagine all the out-of-this-world experiences you might have if you go through with this.” Her eyes sparkled with something close to awe, like she thought this was some grand opportunity for me. If only she knew. I forced a polite smile. “Thank you for the information, Nurse Hilda, but as I said earlier, I don’t think it’s relevant to my decision.” I started to turn away, hoping this would be the end of it, but she grabbed my hand, her grip tight. "Is there something else?" I asked, my patience wearing thin. "Yes, dear, even if you don’t consider all that, think about the situation Dr. Jenna and the hospital are in. If the sponsor finds out, he might not just ruin her career; he could end her life. I know she didn’t want to tell you, but last week, he made it clear that if she doesn’t get results, she could lose more than just her job.” Nurse Hilda’s eyes widened, pleading. "What?" I said, stunned. “And you want me to carry the child of a man who threatens lives?” “No, no, it’s just… he only said that because we hadn’t been delivering,” she stammered, still holding my hand. “But you, Rebecca—you could give him what he wants.” I took a deep breath, gathering my words. “Nurse Hilda, I—” “Becks!” Kayla’s voice cut through the air, pulling my attention away. Nurse Hilda glanced around in a panic before leaning in again, her voice dropping to a whisper. “Please, just think it over carefully. At the very least, give it some thought. Dr. Jenna even paid for your friend’s medical fees from her own pocket, knowing that a single word from you could ruin her life. Our lives are in your hands, Rebecca.”
