{Mia’s POV}
The music blasted in the background as my friends came to see what was happening. The man I was dancing with was on the ground holding his bleeding nose. “What’s your problem man? We were having a good time!” He yelled from his place on the ground.
“That’s strange, I distinctly remember her saying that she wanted you to stop, and let go of her!” The man behind me said in a cold voice.
The man on the floor looked as though he’d seen a ghost. “I’m so sorry sir! I didn’t know it was you!” He cried out, “I’ll leave and never come back here I swear!” He whimpered stumbling onto his feet then bolting out the door leaving a blood trail behind him.
“Are you alright Mia, what happened?” Sam asked walking over and placing her hand on my shoulder.
“I’m fine.. really..” I said looking down at the ground, anywhere was better than making eye contact with anyone in this situation. The way he grabbed me reminded me of that time.. Danny came home in the middle of the night, completely wasted. He practically tackled me once he got in the door, his hands ran all over my body. I felt disgusted by him, by the way he acted. It was the only time.. he swore it would never happen again.. and it didn’t. That never changed what happened that night though, I told him no, and his hands never stopped gripping onto me, I had bruises for weeks.
As I stood staring at the ground I could feel my body shaking, my heart was pounding quickly, and my head was suddenly throbbing. I gripped my head and felt as though I would hit the ground. Instead I felt strong arms around my waist, and my heavy feeling body was lifted effortlessly off the ground. I was carried to a chair near the bar, and the large man who packed me walked off, coming back a few minutes later with a water. “Here, drink this.” He said, his icy blue eyes seemed to be peering into my soul. I swallowed hard and nodded my head, opening the bottle and drinking the water slowly. He removed his jacket and laid it across my lap, then sat in a chair across from me. He lifted my feet up placing them in his lap, and allowed me to lay back slightly. “This should help you begin to feel better.”
Sam and Riley stood next to me, watching everything with strange looks on their faces. “I’m so sorry Mia, we should have been paying closer attention, especially after..” Sam began.
“Please.. don’t..” I muttered out, stopping her before she could say anything else. “Thank you sir, for all of your help, I hope you won’t be in any trouble because of me.” I said softly looking at the man across from me.
“Nicholas.” He stated in a plain manner. “My name is Nicholas, and don’t worry about it. I couldn’t just let him treat you that way now could I?” He asked.
“You could have, but you didn’t.. and for that I’m truly grateful.” I said smiling at him.
His face and ears turned a bit red, he turned his face away from me. “What kind of a man would I be if I didn’t help you.” He stated before nodding to my friends. “Keep a close eye on her, she deserves to be protected and well taken care of.” He said moving my feet slightly and setting them back down in the chair.
“Of course Alpha!” Samantha blurted out, then shook her head turning away. “I need some water as well..” she said walking to the bar and shaking her head repeatedly.
“I’ll keep a close eye on her.” Riley said bowing slightly to Nicholas, then walked over kneeling beside me. “I think it’s time to get you home Mia, you need to sleep this off, and no work for you in the morning. I know you like to get up and write, but you need plenty of rest!” She spoke quite forcefully.
I nodded, standing up and holding out the jacket to the mountain of a man. “Nicholas.. your jacket!” I said, catching him before he walked away.
He pulled it from my hands and wrapped it around my shoulders. It hung from me like an oversized robe. “Keep it, it will keep you warm on your way home, I have many more.” He smiled slightly, his hands still gripping the front of the jacket lightly. “Goodnight Miss Mia.” He said softly, turning and exiting to another room.
I blushed slightly, he was gorgeous, and kind. “I’m ready to go home Riley..” I spoke softly.
“Alright, let’s go get Sam and get out of here!” She said, I noticed her hands shook slightly as she reached out and clasped her arm in mine.
“Are you okay?” I asked softly. She nodded, and I continued. “Why were you guys so weird around him? He was so sweet, I just don’t understand you two sometimes.” I said to Riley as we walked over to the bar where Sam was sitting.
Sam drank her water then turned to us. “Are we ready then?” She asked looking between the two of us, I noticed her figure was shaky as well, it was weird to see them like this.
I nodded. “I’m tired, and I just don’t want to be here after all of that..” I said looking around the club. “That other man was very kind though.” I finished smiling softly and looking back to my friends who had strange looks on their faces.
“Mhmm..” Sam agreed quietly then began walking out of the club. Her behavior was strange, she’s normally the life of the party, and she always has something to say. It’s strange to see her so quiet.
We walked back to her car in silence and they drove me home. Once we got there they walked me inside and somberly turned to leave. “Okay.. I kept quiet the whole way home, but what is going on with you two?” I asked looking over them. Their expressions still strange, something I could only decipher as panic. “You two have been acting strange since we saw that man at the bar! What is going on here?”
“Alright.. that man.. he’s..” Riley started.
“No!” Sam yelled over her. “We’re not supposed to say anything, you know that!” She said shooting a threatening glance at Riley.
“You two have been my friends since high school and now you’re suddenly keeping secrets?” I asked looking between the two of them. “I thought we were closer than that.. I’ve always told you guys everything..” I said, my emotions beginning to get the better of me. After all this time.. they didn’t trust me.
“It’s not like that Mia..” Sam started, but I cut her off.
“Maybe it’s best if you guys go.” I said turning and walking to the door opening it for them.
“Mia..” Sam began again.
“No.. I’ve been through enough tonight, and now my best friends suddenly don’t trust me. I’ve told you two everything for years. Everything about my relationship with Danny, about my parents.. I’ve never once kept secrets from you. So until you’re ready to talk about this, don’t bother coming over. You two have been acting strangely, and apparently you don’t trust me enough to tell me why.” I said motioning for them to leave.
“Sam.. we should just tell her!” Riley said shifting her gaze from the ground to Sam.
“You know why we can’t!” Sam barked at her then quickly walked out the door.
“Riley..” I said looking over to her. “What is going on with you two?”
“I’ll talk to her, and talk to a few other people and see what I can tell you. For now, please just don’t be too upset with us. We’re under strict orders, and it’s hard for us to explain at the moment. I’ll be back tomorrow, and hopefully I’ll be able to tell you something.” She said softly, walking over and enveloping me in one of her hugs, then turned and walked out the door.
I shut the door, locking it behind her, and decided it was best to leave it alone for the night. I walked into my bedroom and decided I should shower before bed. I pulled Nicholas’ jacket off and placed it on my bed. I stripped down and walked into my bathroom. I washed off quickly then hopped out and dried off. I put on some lacy underwear and an oversized t-shirt and finally laid down in my bed. I grabbed the large jacket from Nicholas and placed it beside me on my pillow. I snuggled up to it, breathing in his scent and drifted off to sleep.
