It was late, darkness had already fallen and the stars were winking in the sky, as they drove into the compound. Small bonfires were lit all around, lighting up the middle of the compound. From there, Simile remembered, you could go to the eatery, to the medical suite, the housings, the Alpha's office, or the Alpha family home. It was the centre of the whole place. And even now, this late, it was alive with activity, women, children, men, toddlers, were everywhere, either sitting around the fires or just milling around catching up after a long day.
