Xander
I finally found her. She may have darkened her hair and changed her name, but how could she change her aura? It was so feeble that I hardly noticed it at first, but when she started to speak, I knew without a doubt that it was her. When I finally caught a whiff of her scent, there was no way I could dismiss it.
It was her.
At times I caught her staring at me. That made me wonder if she recognised me. However, from the way she spoke and treated us, it was apparent that she didn't.
So Amelia was right. Danisha was under a spell that made her forget her past. It also meant that her lycan would be hibernating. It would be tough to wake her up. I hoped that something could bring her memories back. Perhaps a counter spell…
"Maybe if we could make her meet Amelia, she might be able to do something to reverse it. Three years have passed since the death of that dark witch who cast that spell on her. Wouldn't that weaken it?" Axe asked me through our bond.
I sighed. "Maybe, maybe not. We will have to find that out."
"Call Leo and Astrea. He too was under a similar spell back then but Astrea was able to break it," Axe reminded me.
"But could they be of any help? They are mates, so breaking the spell wasn't much of a problem. In my case, I don't know if it would work. Right now, she is human. I don't even know what she is thinking of, or how she ended up in the human world. I don't know if she is aware of the existence of our kind. Maybe she doesn't know that her lycan is sleeping inside her. If so, there is a lot of work to do."
"To think that poor Ximena is sleeping for three f*****g years… dude, that's a long time, you know," Axe commented.
"I know, Axe. I was hoping that you might be able to contact her in the world of spirits when you went there," I told him.
"I tried to find her but failed. I guess the spell put her to sleep in such a way that she couldn't reach out to the spirit world too."
Despaired, I let out a heavy sigh.
"She has our number. Let's wait for her call," my lycan finally said.
His suggestion didn't give me any comfort. What if she chooses not to call?
The creases on my forehead deepened as I slumped onto the mattress of the hotel room we were staying in. I found her alright, but I still have a lot of work to do.
"If she doesn't call us tonight, we will go to find her in the restaurant. We now know where she works."
I agreed with Axe. If she didn't call, I would go to find her. I couldn't give up so soon. I had to take her back home. That was where she belonged. Whatever the outcome was, I would keep my promise to her grieving parents. I would take her back to them, even if I didn't manage to rekindle our relationship.
Regardless of how much I yearned for her, I wouldn't force myself on her. I wouldn't coerce her to be with me. If I fail to bring her memories back she wouldn't know what we used to be. She wouldn't be aware of our love and I feared losing her.
My heart ached at the thought. Nonetheless, I would be gentle with her. Because even if she didn't know who I was, I knew who she was to me. She was the love of my life.
I waited for her to call me in anticipation, pacing anxiously around the room. I played games on my phone and had a drink or two from the mini fridge in my room to pass time.
The clock struck two in the morning. The call never came. Disappointed, I curled on the bed and squeezed my eyes shut.
"Please Danisha. Talk to me," I whispered as I slowly fell asleep.

The next morning, I woke up startled. It was already thirty minutes past seven in the morning so I hastily freshened up and rushed outside. My boys were waiting for me in the lobby since I had instructed them to gather downstairs everyday by seven forty five so that we could begin our search. However, today I desired to be alone. Though I was certain that I had found the girl I wanted, I didn't inform them about it.
"You can take the day off. Do something fun. If I need you, I'll mindlink you all," I said.
They dispersed, and I returned to my car, which was parked nearby. I could have hired a driver, but I preferred to be self-sufficient. So I bought a car and navigated the city using Google Maps. I was planning on leaving and heading to another city if I couldn't find her in this one, but I think I struck gold.
The staff were reporting to duty one by one when I arrived at the restaurant. I sat in my car, waiting for a glimpse of her. When I saw her slender frame approaching briskly towards the entryway, a smile curled on my lips. It was undeniable that it was her. Her posture and gait were identical. I took a deep breath as I remembered her wonderful voice.
After three years, I finally heard it, and it was like music to my ears. My heart was racing. She was the one. Danisha, my Danisha.
After contemplating much, I parked my car and entered the restaurant without thinking much about what I was going to say. All I desired to do was see her and hopefully speak with her.
"How may I help you, sir," the lady seated at the reception greeted me, offering a professional smile.
My mind went blank. I couldn't say that I wanted to see Danisha… wait… they called her Zara.
"Just ask for a table for one. Maybe a coffee and some food will wake you up," Axe mumbled in my mind.
Right.
"Uh… table for one please. I would like to have a coffee and maybe breakfast," I said, restraining myself from looking around. If only I could catch a glimpse of her…
She nodded her head and pointed towards her right.
"Please take a seat, sir. One of our waiters will attend to you in a while," she said. "Sorry sir, this might take a little while. We just opened the restaurant," she offered a sheepish smile.
I nodded my head. "That's okay. I understand."
I took a seat and glanced out of the window. Since it was a Monday people were out on the streets, going to work. The restaurant was rather deserted unlike yesterday. I guessed it was packed when we arrived the day before because it was a weekend. If we hadn't made a reservation prior to our arrival, we most probably wouldn't have gotten a seat.
I was glad that I chose to have food in this cosy place. I liked to think that it was fate bringing Danisha and I together.
A familiar scent invaded my nostrils, capturing my attention. Smiling, I inhaled deeply, savouring the fragrance.
Lilies. She was coming.
I looked around just in time to see her and another waiter approach the reception. I quickly picked the menu on the table and hid behind it. If her Lycan was hibernating, she most probably wouldn't be able to distinguish individuals by their scents. I suspected that she wouldn't come my way if she realised that it was me.
I channelled my Lycan senses hoping to catch what they were saying.
"Mike has taken his day off today, and has instructed me to assign tasks for you girls," the receptionist told them.
"I thought he never gets sick," snickered the other girl. Danisha stifled a laugh while the receptionist sighed.
"Guys, be serious. He will fire me if any of us mess up. I need this job with my husband being hospitalised," the girl who was seated in the reception pleaded.
"Sorry, Jamie. Penny's comment was funny. Of course we won't mess anything up. In fact, we will do so well that he will have no choice but to give you a raise," Danisha told her friend.
"Yeah. I was just being silly. We have your back, girl," the other girl, I guess Penny agreed with Danisha.
Smiling, "Thanks guys," Jamie said. "Zara, Penny, one of you, go to the pantry and help Liam with arranging the storage items," the receptionist instructed them. Danisha grimaced.
Penny cast a glance at her and shrugged her shoulders. "I'll take that. We can't send our Zara to help Liam."
"That's good. So Zara, attend to that gentleman over there, please. He has been patiently sitting there for ten minutes already," Danisha was instructed.
A smile curled on my lips. She was going to serve me. Perfect.
I waited for her to approach me.
"Hello sir, sorry for the delay. What would you like to have?"
She sounded professional. I lowered the menu and flashed my signature smile at her. Her eyes widened. I could sense her heart pick up speed as she sucked in a breath.
"Hello, Zara," I smirked. "Nice to see you again. One Lavazza black along with continental breakfast, please," I told her, looking deeply into her piercing blue eyes.
She blinked, as though she was trying to shake herself out of a trance.
"R..right… thank you, sir," she stuttered while scribbling down my order on her notepad.
"Please, call me Xander," I requested, wishing that she would make eye contact with me again. I knew her lycan was in there. If only something could wake her up. Or if only she could recall who I was to her.
Forcing a smile, "Xan… Xander," she said.
I chuckled. "Xan works fine too. I was waiting for your call last night."
She offered an anxious laugh. "I… I was too tired," she glanced at her notepad and then at me. "So, one Lavazza black and a continental breakfast coming up," she cheerfully announced and walked away.
To my dismay, another waitress arrived with my order, which I ate in silence and left the restaurant. While I walked out, I tried to catch a whiff of her scent but was disappointed when I didn't. She wasn't around anywhere. Perhaps she left. But why?
"Maybe telling her the truth will be a good idea," Axe suggested while I walked out of the restaurant.
"How can I do that if she keeps avoiding me? Besides, do you think that she will believe me? She most probably thinks that she is human," I responded.
"So what? We know she isn't. The real her is in there. Dormant. We need to wake her up!"
"How?"
"I don't know. Maybe give her s****l organs a proper jostling," Axe shrugged his shoulders.
I groaned.
"What? How else are we supposed to wake her insides up? We can't mark her yet," he pointed out.
"I have to get her to trust me, dude," I told my lycan. "Who knows what she has gone through during these three years? Maybe she is scared."
I didn't like to think that she would be in a relationship with someone else, but surely, a lot must have happened to her. With her memory gone, she must have questioned her past numerous times. She even might have gotten into a relationship with someone. She must have been in a dilemma. Oh, how I wished that I found her when she needed me the most.
"What if she is still with someone?" Axe mumbled.
I growled, almost too loudly. I suppose it was time to stalk her and investigate. On my way back, I mind linked my boys to meet me in the hotel. They were waiting for me in the lobby when I returned.
"Your Highness," they greeted, as soon as we were alone in my suite.
"No need to address me like that when we are here. Call me Xander."
They exchanged glances.
"But… Your Grace…" Jasper, a recruit who joined the royal army last year stammered.
I chuckled. "It's going to be fine. As you all know, we are here to find Danisha, one of our citizens that went missing three years ago. I think I have found her. Remember the waitress who served us yesterday in the restaurant? That's her. But apparently she has changed her appearance, and her lycan must be put to sleep. So we have a lot of work to do before we can take her back home. I need you to find as much information as you can about her."
Everyone except Jasper nodded their heads. I noticed that he seemed to be troubled.
"Anything wrong, Jasper?" I asked.
"Sir, that girl…" he shifted on his feet. "She is friends with my mate and I know where she lives."
