In The Human World

One year later Danisha (Nuri) It didn't take much time for me to get used to the bustling environment of the human city. One year had passed since I had crossed the magical boundary. I secretly hoped that I would recall my past once I returned to the human world but I didn't. Nonetheless, I managed to find a job as a waitress at a local restaurant with the help of some fairy friends. It paid me enough to live a respectful life. If only my memories would return. I changed my name and coloured my hair, hoping that it would help me blend in. I feared being discovered by Cadmus and his men. If they ever travelled to the city I had settled in, I would be doomed. "Looking good, Zara." I held back my urge to roll my eyes. That could only be Liam, my coworker who had been continuously trying to take me out on a date. "Hey, Liam," I mumbled while arranging the menus. I wished he wouldn't bother me so early in the morning. He leaned against the wall. I knew he was checking me out, but I chose to ignore him. "It's a shame that you are wasting your youth. Why won't you let anyone take you out?" I gave him a sidelong glance and offered a smile. "That's a strange way to wish me a good morning. Good morning to you too, Liam," I said and walked towards the kitchen. "Come on," he said, following me. "You would need a man in your life. Everyone needs someone to satisfy their desires." I cringed, wondering if all men thought of was those 'desires'. I sighed, shaking my head. I cast a glance at the cook, hoping she had a task for Liam. "Liam! Stop bothering the lady and go get some rice bags from the store room! It's too early for her to deal with your crap," it was the supervisor who interfered. Groaning, he left. The cook snickered while I breathed out in relief. "Got your daily dose of Liam already?" she joked. I laughed. Liam was very vocal about being interested in dating me. Maybe he was making sure that no one in our work place would approach me. "Why don't you give the lad a chance? He seems genuine," she mumbled while kneading the dough. Smirking, "Nah. Not interested," I told her. "Besides, who needs boys when we have s*x toys?" I winked. The cook chuckled with me. "Zara!" The supervisor's stern voice startled me. "Some important people have reserved a table in the VIP section for lunch today. I need you to attend to them. Make sure that everything is perfect. I don't want any mishaps." "Yes, sir," I said. It wasn't difficult to serve VIP consumers. When it came to handling affluent clientele, my experience at the dragon palace came in handy. Perhaps that's why he made me take care of them all the time. They were supposed to arrive at one o'clock in the afternoon, so I made sure I was available at that time. When a group of four well-built young men entered through the door, I was waiting near the reception. My mouth hung open. They were all quite attractive. They appeared like they strolled right out of a fashion magazine, despite their basic shirts and black jeans. My breathing became laboured when my gaze fell on a set of grey eyes. There was something intriguing about him that drew me in. Perhaps it was because of the way his black hair suited his skin tone. Maybe it was the way he styled his hair. I took a deep breath and swallowed hard. Or maybe it was just the fact that he was really sexy, and I couldn't take my gaze away from his torso, where his shirt clung. If only I could hug his toned abs instead of his white shirt... I pressed my lips together and averted my gaze. I had better keep my emotions in check. They'd most likely leave as soon as they finished their meal. Besides, who needs boys when we have s*x toys, right? I looked at our new clients and forced a smile. The grey eyed stranger briefly glanced at me but then shifted his attention towards the receptionist. "Reservation under Alexander Connor," the grey-eyed hunk said in a deep voice that made my heart race and mouth water. Stupid emotions… Maybe I really should let Liam take me to bed. The receptionist nodded her head and glanced at me. "Take them to the VIP lounge," she instructed. I sucked in a breath, yet maintained my posture. Were these smoking hot men the significant people I was supposed to serve? Daaaamn! Regardless, I swiftly concealed my anxiety. At least, that's what I believed I did. I indicated for them to follow me after flashing the most professional smile I could muster. "Please follow me," I said. The grey-eyed stranger appeared to whip his head in my direction, but I brushed it away. That has to be my personal opinion. He would never look at someone like me. I escorted them to their table. Except for the grey-eyed mystery man, they all took a seat. He kept staring at me, which made me feel uneasy. "Please take a seat, sir," I requested. He blinked as though he was trying to shake himself out of a trance. "Right," he mumbled as he sat down on the empty seat. I stepped away after delivering them the menus to allow them some solitude. Despite this, I kept a wary eye on them, trying to catch a glimpse of the mystery man with grey eyes. However, I instantly averted my attention because he was looking in my direction as well. Craving some privacy to calm my erratic heart down, I went to the staff lavatory and checked my reflection. My breathing was uneven and I looked like a mess. I had served several VIPs but never felt any difficulty while serving any client until now. Well, none of them were smoking hot young men… "I can do this," I whispered to myself and slowly exhaled. I washed my hands, adjusted my maroon waitress's uniform and walked towards the table with a strengthened devotion. I was determined to get it done without causing any problems. Nonetheless, as soon as I approached them, my heart started to pound in my chest. The grey eyed stranger offered a smile that made me want to melt into a puddle. Who was he? He glanced at the name tag on my chest and frowned. "Zara?" he asked. Smiling, I nodded. "Yes. I will be your waitress. What would you like to order?" I asked. The grey eyed hunk cast a glance at his comrades. The way they exchanged glances was intimidating. I quickly noted their orders down and rushed towards the kitchen. As soon as the chef took the orders, I dashed towards the balcony to catch my breath. They were going to be the toughest VIPs I had ever served. Thankfully, nothing bad happened despite my apprehension. I thought they were going to leave when they were done paying the bill, but to my surprise, the grey eyed man approached me before they did. "It was a pleasure to be served by a talented waitress like you. My name is Alexander. But everyone calls me Xander, uh… this is my number. I plan to open a restaurant soon. Hope you would call me," he smiled as he offered a piece of paper with his number scribbled on. Dumbfounded, I stared at him as I accepted it. He flashed a wonderful smile and walked away. An involuntary smile curled on my lips as I walked towards the pantry. I glanced at the number. Perhaps I would call… "What? He gave you his number!" I didn't know Liam was peeking over my shoulder. I raised a brow and put the piece of paper in my pocket. "Not your business, Liam," I mumbled. Liam didn't intimidate me. However, when he grabbed my arm and pinned me against the wall I wheezed. "I have been trying for so long. Why won't you talk to me? What does he have that I don't? Why won't you give me a chance?" he demanded, squeezing my hand so much that it hurt. "Let me go!" I shrieked at him. "You are hurting me!" His face softened as he slowly let go of me. I looked at my wrists that were now red with the force he grabbed it. "I… I am sorry. I didn't mean to…" "You tried to kiss me forcefully the first time we talked, Liam. Have you forgotten?" I cut him in, irritated by his possessiveness. "Maybe that's what you don't have. Patience," I breathed out in frustration and stormed towards the kitchen where Liam wouldn't be able to harass me again. After finishing a busy day at the restaurant, I went back to my flat, hoping to get some rest. Since it was the weekend, the restaurant was packed with families and groups of friends who wanted to enjoy their time together. "Surprise!" I was shocked to hear familiar voices scream as soon as I opened the door to my flat. "Hey! Guys!" I grinned. "Oh my God! I missed my human!" squealed Anika, as she rushed towards me to give me a friendly hug. Despite my fatigue, I was elated to see them. Grinning from ear to ear, I wrapped my arms around her body. "I missed my fairies too!" I replied, glancing at the girls. Anika, Farah, and Latifa were my fairy friends who I befriended on my voyage from the fairy land to the human world. They were the ones who helped me get a job and find an apartment. Without them, I would have been lost. Ever since then, we kept in touch. I noticed a familiar looking male among them, who was smiling while Anika embraced me. I wrinkled my forehead, wondering if I had met him before. The plain shirt and black jeans… I had definitely seen him somewhere. Anyway, what was he doing with these fairies? "Did you bring a man this time?" I asked Anika, raising a brow. She nodded her head. "Yes. This is Jasper. My mate," she said. I frowned. "Mate?" "Yes. My destined mate," she grinned from ear to ear. "She got lucky. We seldom meet our mates. But this is one lucky b***h," giggled Farah. "If only a werewolf would claim me too," sighed Latifa. My eyebrows shot up. "Werewolf?" "Jasper is a wolf. Werewolves have this awesome sense of smell and they can sniff their mates out. How awesome is that?" Anika explained. "Wow," I whispered and offered a polite smile to Jasper. "Hello, Jasper. It's a pleasure to meet you," I said, holding my hand out in a handshake. "Nice to meet you too, uh…" Smiling, "call me Zara," I said. "Zara," he nodded his head. "You work in a restaurant, don't you?" he said. "Y…yes…" I squinted. I had definitely seen this freckled face somewhere. My eyes widened when I recalled. He was among the group of men who I served in the VIP lounge. "You went to the restaurant today!" I exclaimed. He smirked. My eyes widened. Did that mean all of them were werewolves? I gulped. At least they weren't dragons. "You… they were all wolves?" My voice was barely above a whisper. Chuckling, "some of us are lycans," he said. My heart started to race once again. The grey eyed man… Xander… why did he seem to be so interesting to me? "Xander… is he…" I trailed off. "He is a lycan and he is the crown prince," Jasper informed. My mouth dropped open and my eyes widened. I felt as though the world had stopped spinning after he said that. The crown prince? Another Royal shifter? Oh no…
