*** The next morning was one of the most awkward and tense mornings I’d ever experienced. As soon as I woke up, it felt like someone had died in the house. Everywhere was so quiet that you could have heard a pin drop. I made my way down to the kitchen once I got ready for school, and I found dad and Amelia sitting at the table in silence, not even looking at each other. I assumed they must have spoken about what happened yesterday, and probably disagreed about who was right or wrong. “Good morning,” I said, sliding into my chair. All I got was a stifled nod from both of them, while dad returned to his newspaper and Amelia continued to stab her bacon with a fork. I ate in silence, trying not to make a single sound as we continued to eat without looking at each other. Asher walked in
