The entire ride home, Lily kept asking me what happened, but I refused to tell her anything. I just told her I tripped and fell. But she wasn’t buying it.

“I don’t know what else to tell you?” I said, avoiding her gaze. “I tripped and fell, and that’s all that happened.”
