A different first date

After Halloween, I decided I craved to show Val how much she meant to me. I planned our official first date. I preferred it special. Tonight, I would ask her to be my girl.
I made sure she dressed warm and casual. I needed nothing fancy. She and I were all that mattered.
I arrived at her door and knocked. Cage answered it.
“Ryker.”
“Hey, Mr. Wesley.”
Man, my nerves kicked up.
“Call me, Cage.”
He had a pleasant and friendly tone. I nodded, shoving my hands in my jean pockets to hide my sweaty palms. Val came to the door, wearing jeans, sneakers, and a warm hoodie. She kissed Cage on the cheek.
“See you later, Dad.”
“Val, have you got your meds?”
“Yes, Dad.”
