Sad Birthday

Nala. Wait, did he just ask my father for money? I mean why would my father do that? Collecting money from Alpha Tyron was like taking something from the devil, it never ends well. “Alpha Tyron, we have been doing our best to raise the money, but times are hard,” my father stuttered. “And yet, you have the money to waste on useless parties,” Tyron slammed back at my father. I was honestly surprised that my parents were owing him some money. I wondered what they could have needed money for, that would prompt them to go to alpha Tyron, not for once, considering his bad reputation. “Please give us a little time, we will pay you back,” my father pleaded. “And how do you hope to repay my five hundred thousand dollars? From what I have heard, your pack is barely hanging in there. And you have been moving around a lot, asking people for money,” he said to my father. Omg, that is a lot of money. “It's not true, alpha Tyron; all we have been going through is trying to raise your money. And honestly, we will do anything you require of us to offset the loan,” my father said in a pleading tone. “And what would you possibly do to offset such a huge amount of money,” Alpha Tyron asked. “Anything, just name it, and we shall have it done,” my father answered, a little spark of hope evident in his voice. There was an intense silence everywhere as soon as my father said that, and I wished I were translucent to see what was happening. “Okay, I have a proposition for you. You give me your daughter here to bear me pups, and I will, in turn, forfeit your debt,” Alpha Tyron said. There was a little gasping sound from someone, I couldn't tell who it was. Or maybe it was me, due to the shock. “Who is there?” He questioned, as I could feel his eyes geared towards the kitchen. “It's not relevant, Alpha Tyron,” my mum said with a dismissing voice. I could tell that he was not convinced as he beckoned on his Beta to go to the kitchen to find out who it was. I quickly moved from the door and walked over to the sink, pretending to be cleaning out the dishes. I could feel the Beta stop at the kitchen entrance, his eyes lingered on me for a while before looking around to see if there was someone else. After ascertaining that there was no one else in the kitchen, he walked back to his Alpha. I heaved a deep sigh of relief, glad that he was gone, and quickly I went back to the door to eavesdrop on their conversation. “Stupid maid,” I heard the Beta say to Alpha Tyron. Did he just call me a maid? Well, I am going to let that slide and pretend I didn't hear it. However, it silently hurt that both my parents didn't even do anything to correct that impression. I quietly pushed the pain behind me as I tried to concentrate on what had been said. I wondered why Alpha Tyron would want to ask my father for such a request, considering how powerful and wealthy he was. He could easily get himself any woman he wanted from his pack, why was he asking, or rather why was he willing to buy himself a mate, or was it a breeder he said he wanted? “Now, what do you say to my proposition?” Asked alpha, Tyron. “But my Alpha, is there any other way we can repay you?” My father asked in an uncertain voice. “You said I should name my price, and I have. If you agree, you can take tonight to prepare her. Let her know that she will be my breeder and nothing more. I will send my Beta here tomorrow morning to pick her up. Is that understood,” he questioned in a daring voice. “Yes, alpha Tyron,” my father answered in a shaking voice. I heard movement, and I assumed that must be him and his guards getting up to leave. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Kylie, as I couldn't imagine myself being forced to marry someone that I had zero iota of love for. Minding the fact that he just said he wanted her just to be his breeder, meaning there might never be any chance of him ever loving her. That's so cruel. Even though Kylie was not my favorite person in the world, I would never have wished such a cruel fate to befall her. “I am not going with him,” I could hear Kylie say sternly to my parents after Alpha Tyron had left. “Kylie darling, we do not have any choice, you very well know that there is no way we can ever raise such a considerable sum of money,” my father said to her in a pleading tone. “Then, you should have thought of that before you went to him, I will not be married off to a monster simply because you were trying to keep up with your fake life,” she snapped at our dad. Wait? Are we broke? I mean, I would never have suspected that my father was broke. Putting into consideration the fact that he organizes parties almost every week. Why would he be squandering so much money when he doesn't have it? “Don't forget, you were the reason we went to take that money because you insisted on going to a private college that was way beyond our budget,” my father retorted. “That is not my fault, you are my father and ought to be able to provide for my every need,” she said nonchalantly to him. “You deceived us into thinking you already had an admission. We only realized that you were never given admission after we collected the loan and gave you part of it to settle your school bills,” my father said to her. “Don't you even think of putting this on me because you and I very well know the reason you took the money and the reason you organized these parties? But, It doesn't matter now because I will not be used as a p*****t to that monster. Haven't you all heard of what he did to his mate? What do you think he will do to me?” She spurred out angrily. “You do not have a choice, you were here when he said he wanted you as his mate, and you will go to him as one,” said my father. “I will not. Over my dead body, will I agree to be mated to that monster? Moreover, I am not the only daughter you have in this house, am I? He asked to be married to your daughter and Nala is also your daughter. So, she should be the one to marry him,” she said. “You know very well that Nala is still a child, she is not even eighteen yet,” my father said. “But she would be in less than one hour, if anyone should be sent to that monster, she should be the one, not me,” she said. “Enough, both of you!” said my hushed mother. “Susan, please make her see the reason she must accept this proposal. Alpha Tyron will not think twice about tearing this pack apart should we not meet his demands,” my father pleaded with my mum. “If she would rather not marry him, then she doesn't have to,” my mother stated. “What are you saying?” My father asked, puzzled by her utterances. “Nala!” My mother called out to me. I quickly composed myself and pretended not to have been listening to them before I walked out of the kitchen to join them. Even though I had so much to say to them, I wasn't certain if they would appreciate my opinion at that moment. “Why don't you go to your room, you will complete the chores in the morning,” she said in a strangely calm tone. I nodded my head and bid them goodnight before heading to my room. Since the house was already quiet, I could still pick out their words using my super hearing ability. “Kylie is right, Nala can go in her place,” My mother said. My heart dropped as soon as I heard my mother say those words. No. I wasn't surprised that she would rather send me off to a monster instead of her favorite daughter. But I was disappointed that she would rather have me sent to Alpha Tyron, instead of offering other solutions. My first instinct was to run away immediately, but on second thought, I decided to wait until they were sleeping before I made my move. “But Tyron already knows Kylie. What if he doesn't accept Nala? She does not exactly have what it takes to be an Alpha's breeder, let's not forget that she is still wolfless,” my father said, and if I didn't know better, I would say that there was a little concern for me in his voice. “Leave everything to me, I will speak with Nala and make her understand why she has to go. You both can go to your rooms, I will join you as soon as I am done speaking with Nala,” my mother said. “Thanks, Mom,” I heard Kylie say to her. I quickly moved to my bed and pretended to be sleeping. A few moments later, I heard someone tapping gently on my door; before I could respond, the door opened, and my mother walked in. I pretended not to know what they had previously talked about. “Nala dear, are you sleeping? She asked in a strangely calm voice. A voice I would have mistaken for pure mother affection towards her child if I didn't know her intentions. “No Mom,” I answered, doing my best not to let the sadness and disappointment show through my words. “Good. Your father and I have decided to get you married to alpha Tyron in the morning,” she said bluntly, not bothering about how I was going to react to the news. I could get the fact that it was difficult for her to stay in the nice mom character for long. “Mom, I am barely eighteen, I would rather not get married yet,” I said, fighting to keep the tears that were beginning to blur my eyes from spilling. “The more reason you should be grateful for this opportunity. Nobody is going to know that you are only eighteen unless you tell them. You are in luck because we are getting you mated to an alpha king. Something you might never have gotten on your own,” she said, her tone sounding like she was doing me a favor. “But I don't want him, I don't even know him,” I said to her. “Stop making this difficult, Nala. Your father is in a lot of debt, or would you rather have him disgraced or, worse still, killed?” she questioned, her voice laced with annoyance. “ No mum. But what if I die? Mom, what if he kills me like he did his first mate?” I questioned as hot tears spilled from my eyes. “Whatever you are doing Nala, you are doing it for your family, and trust me when I say no price is too big to pay for one's family,” she said. “I don't want to go, please mum, tell me to do anything here in the house, and I will do it with pleasure; just don't send me to him,” I pleaded, with a little hope that my tears would soften her rigid heart. “I'm sorry Nala, your father and I have already made the decision. Kylie is not ready to get married anytime soon, so it has to be you,” she said without emotions before walking towards the door. As soon as she exited my room, I noticed she had locked the door from the outside. I tried opening it, but it was not opening and I panicked as streams of tears rained down my eyes. Just then, my alarm went off, it was midnight, and it was my birthday. Fresh tears brewed in my eyes as I thought of how miserable I was to be given such a cruel family. How could my family decide to sell me to a brutal alpha king on my eighteenth year birthday?
