The warning

Santino “ Has Ethan reached out again?” Maximo asks, as usual, he has a Gurkha on his lips. He picked up the hobbit after we left Aurora. At first, I thought it would be a one-time phase, but the action has stuck with him ever since. I don't know why I never bothered to ask him about it. It's not like it has any effect on our health “ No, he hasn't. He went quiet after saying he would track it down. I don't know if he will manage.” I say before I sigh. I lean against the mahogany desk and Maximo leans against the bookshelf. “ What about the people we sent to find it in the first place, how is the progress?” Maximo questions, crossing his arms over his chest. He is bulkier than I am, and usually the one ladies tend to like more. I can see it with Samantha already, she clung to him, but after she saw the danger that lurks behind those eyes, she ran for her life. It didn't shock me, Maximo has a deceiving personality. Sometimes I am convinced he got the dark personality from our uncle Vincent. “ Nothing either, it's like the stone just disappeared in thin air.” I pull on my black tie, and suddenly it feels too tight like it's constricting my neck and making it harder to breathe. I take it out completely and place it on the desk. “ So what now? It has been four months of searching and if it ends up in Vincent's hands what will happen to Avorora?” Maximo questions, getting angrier. He breathes out, the room gets warmer. If I wasn't a dragon like him, I wouldn't have been able to take the heat. No wonder I always have to protect Samantha from his heat. Sometimes Maximo forgets how fragile humans are compared to our kind. “ If it ends up in his hands, at least we will have a clue we can find it, and then we will find a way of getting it back,” I suggest, the words sound ridiculous even to me. Maximo laughs and throws his hands in the air. “ By the time we make it to Avorora to get it back, he would have already seized our shifting abilities, making him an invincible opponent. Worse of if he destroys the stone then the whole realm would be gone. Do you know how many shifters depending on us, brother? We came to earth for the purpose of protecting Avorora. We have lived in this realm for over a decade, in Avorora time it would be 2 decades. Our mother will be disappointed because she has kept the realm safe while we protect the stone from Vincent and his hoard of demons. I hear he has grown even stronger and the demon army has expanded over twice the size of the shifters in Avorora. The only way to save ourselves is by hiding that stone and looking for the one weapon that can help us in this fight, but we have none of those things. I am sorry to say this, but we have let everyone down just like this, and then all this sacrifice of leaving home was all for nothing.” Maximo finishes his rant, he grinds his jaw hard as he regards me. In every sense he is right, our realm is in trouble. Without the Dragon heart in our possession, the realm is doomed. “ I will make another trip, I want to see if I can find some clues in the black market,” I suggest. I believe sulking about the issue won't make it any different. “ No, that is a waste of time, that little human we are keeping in this house knows more than she lets on. If we put her under more pressure, she will break. She has to know more than she lets on, as well as how her brother opened the safe because that safe has the best-locking technology in the w***e world. I don't think that famous Besto Key is capable of opening the safe.” Maximo's eyes appear distant. “ I don't think they are capable of acquiring that key. The mysterious owner has it well hidden, and I hear it doesn't have a price yet because no one has been able to acquire it. One thing I am sure of is the Besto Key can open any safe in the world despite all these security systems in place. It's the one key that's capable of doing that, and once you have it, you are on top of the world. It's a very powerful tool, no wonder the owner has it well hidden.” I say. The Besto key is labeled dangerous by society, and yet it's in demand in the black market. I hear it is the only one of its kind. Others have tried to make a prototype but failed miserably. It's a well-known key to some of us in these shady businesses because even if it's labeled dangerous, everyone wants it. “ Maybe Ethan knows someone who has it, and he worked with the same to steal our diamonds,” Maximo suggests. “ Maybe, for now, we won't really know the real truth.” This is something that we have been trying to figure out these past four months. Hearing that our diamonds were stolen from one of our penthouses in Miami crashed the both of us. We hopped the dragon stone was left behind but nothing was left, everything was taken away from us, and we have been searching. “ For now we put pressure on Samantha,” The decision is final and he is right. I could scent some of the lies from her, I was just patient enough to see how far she was willing to go with the lies. But even a patient man can run out of patience. She is attractive, I will give her that. It's one thing that caught me off guard about her, I didn't know she would be so breathtaking, with a nice plump ass that my palms have been itching to grab. The next thing that caught me off guard was her scent, it's so fresh and citric, such that it instantly caught the interest of my dragon. He has been perky ever since she grabbed his attention, and most of the time he pushes me to spend more time with her. I stare up at Maximo, and his look is mirroring mine. I don't need to guess that she has the same effect on him. I can tell it's bothering him. He has been angsty and on edge since he saw her. It's easy for us to understand each other's feelings through the close bond we share, and it is not surprising that we both have taken an interest in Ethan’s young sister. “ I guess this meeting is over,” I begin to walk out and Maximo calls my name. “ Yes, brother,” I answer. “ Do you feel it too?” He asks, his calmer now, more in control of his emotions than the anger he was displaying seconds ago. “ Yes,” My answer is short and firm. He nods and continues on my out. I make my way to the kitchen, where I am sure I will find Samantha. She has a tendency to always hang around the kitchen preparing snacks and eating. She has a great appetite, it's surprising that she has a curved slim body, I guess the food ends up in all the right places. I snatch some pancakes from her plate and she glares at me before she continues to eat, ignoring me altogether. I smile inwardly, on the outside I have my cold bored face plastered. I sit next to her and she makes sure to add some distance between us when she grabs her plate and moves four seats away. She is dramatic, yet I understand her behavior, fear is lurking just beneath the surface. She is afraid of me, she doesn't need to say it, but her sweet citric scent is polluted by the scent of fear. It makes me happy, she should be afraid of us. Her brother shouldn't have messed with us in the first place. “ Samantha,” “ Huh?” “ I have been patient with you, I know you lied to me about not knowing anything concerning your brother. I was hoping by now you would have made up your mind to tell me more,” I say, I can't help that my voice stern. Her shoulders tense up before they relax once more. She continues to stuff her mouth with food, and I wonder if I should repeat myself. “Sama...” “ I heard you loud and clear, but even if I knew something about my brother, why would I give it away so easily? Supposed it was you and Maximo in my situation, and you knew Maximo was so up to something. Would you rat him out that easily?” She asks, quirking her eyebrow briefly at me. I glare at her, and my jaw ticks. She stares ahead, avoiding my gaze as she eats. My mind gets distracted for a moment as I watch how her lips move, how I want those lips pleasuring my body. “ Mr Ricca....” “ I heard you loud and clear, I understand that you want to protect your brother, but you don't understand what is at stake here, and I am sorry my patience is running thin. If he doesn't find the ruby by the end of this week, consider those beautiful fingers gone. I will tell Maximo to scotch them up and if by the end of the other week, It's still not found, the next thing will be your toes, I am sure you understand where I am getting at, each week a body part is lost. I will make sure I keep alive, even if you beg for your death. Cause unlike you, Ms Cote, I am the one with the ball in his hands.” The kitchen smells of her fear. She puts the plate of pancakes away, and a satisfied grin briefly graces my face. She knows the threats aren't empty. Maximo has burned her before, he normally doesn't like to be touched. Besides, he has suggested the multiple times. She tries her hardest to remain composed, but I am a dragon. “ Can I at least talk to him? I can get him to move faster. If he hears my voice he will worry more and maybe work better than before,” Her hands are shaky and she hides them under the table. Those amber eyes plead with me. Finally, we are staring at each other. “ Let her talk to him,” Maximo says, joining the conversation. She looks startled by his sudden presence. He has that habit, I thought she was used to him by now. “ You heard my brother, but we will be there listening to the conversation. Don't think you can try anything tricky,” I warn her. Maximo laughs and shakes his head. “ Nah, I don't think she will,” He chuckles as he blows out some smock from his cigar as a clear warning, his voice cold.
