As I drifted off to sleep, my mind raced with thoughts of Kael and what he could do to me. I didn't know how long I slept, but I woke up to the sound of someone moving around in my room. I opened my eyes, but the room was shrouded in darkness. I reached for the lamp on my nightstand, but before I could turn it on, I felt a hand wrap around my throat, cutting off my air supply. Panic set in as I tried to fight back, but the person was too strong. Just as I thought it was all over, the hand was gone, and I heard the sound of footsteps retreating from my room. I quickly turned on the lamp, but there was no one there. I sat up, gasping for air, my heart pounding in my chest. Was Kael in my room? Was he going to come back and finish the job? Or was it someone else entirely? Or was it someone else entirely? The uncertainty of my safety in my own home overwhelmed me. Yet, despite the fear, my mind and body were too exhausted to resist, and I succumbed to sleep once more. The next time I slowly opened my eyes again, I was greeted with a dull ache that ran down my entire body. It felt like I had just run a marathon, but the reality was far more bizarre. And I did ran from the university and into the woods. After meeting Kael, both in his large dog form and human form, I had to walk from the forest to the main road. By the time I reached my room, I was completely spent, every muscle in my body begging for rest. So that morning, I dragged myself out of bed, grabbed my phone from my side table, and made my way to the kitchen. I still had class today and I wanted to find out any news about Professor Green, and I couldn't afford to miss a single lecture. As I checked my phone for any messages from Levie, I stumbled into the kitchen, I could feel every muscle in my body crying out in protest. But as soon as I was greeted by the smell of freshly brewed coffee, I was already feeling a little better. Then I saw my brother sitting at the kitchen table, looking as dashing as ever. "Good morning, Charlie," I greeted him as I walked into the kitchen. Charlie looked up and greeted me back with a nod. "Good morning, sis. How's school?" "School is…okay, I guess." I rubbed my tired eyes, still feeling the remnants of yesterday's strange and exhausting experience. "And you? How's work?" I asked, trying to make conversation. Charlie leaned back in his chair with a shrug, a look of boredom on his face. "Same old, same old. Just another day at the clinic." I raised an eyebrow, trying to inject some humor into the conversation. "Really? I heard gynecology can be quite the adventure." But Charlie was clearly not in the mood. He was a gynecologist, but also a notorious womanizer, and it was evident that his work wasn't holding his interest today However, when he saw my forlorn and exhausted appearance, his demeanor changed instantly. "Wait a minute, what happened to you?” he asked with genuine concern, leaning forward in his chair. “You look like you just ran a marathon." I hesitated, not sure if I was ready to revisit the strange events of the previous day, but Charlie was persistent. "Come on, talk to me. You know I'm always here for you," he said, a genuine look of concern on his face when I didn’t say anything. I let out a deep sigh and began to recount the events of the last few days to Charlie. I started with my strange dream where I encountered Kael, masked and mysterious, and the intimate moment we shared. “Wait...so you mean you had a wet dream about a guy?” Charlie asked bluntly, making me blush. Eye-rolling at him, I went on to describe Professor Green's sudden jump from the window and how Kael was the only one standing there - although no other students had seemed to notice him. I then spoke about my frantic run through the forest, where I encountered Kael once again, this time in the form of a dog. And then, in a flash of light, he transformed into a human right before my very eyes. Finally, I finished my story with my weary walk back to my apartment, still trying to process all that I had seen. As I spoke, Charlie attentively listened, but with a hint of restraint in his mannerisms. He interjected with occasional questions, but his main interest remained fixed on Kael. "So, let me get this straight, Kael changed from a wolf into a human?" he asked, with a touch of skepticism in his tone. "Did I say wolf? A dog. A really huge dog," I corrected him. “It was crazy. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I thought I was losing my mind." Despite my clarification, Charlie seemed to be holding back something, giving off the impression that he knows more than he was letting on. He leaned back in his chair, his eyes glued on me as if trying to process what I had just told him. "No. I'm telling you now, Sis. What you saw was a wolf. And not just some ordinary one." "Wait. You mean to say..." "Kael is werewolf," he said. That was what Kael told me, that he was a werewolf. But hearing it from my own brother now - it felt absolutely crazy. "A werewolf? Come on, Charlie, you can't be serious," I replied. I still chose to be skeptical of the idea. Charlie leaned forward, his eyes alight with excitement. "Deadly serious, Sis. There are more things in this world than what meets the eye. And that Kael guy is one of them. Werewolves have been around for centuries, keeping a low profile, hiding in plain sight." I shook my head, trying to wrap my mind around what Charlie was saying. "This is crazy. I mean, werewolves are just creatures of legend. What happened yesterday can’t be real." "No, my dear sister. They are very much real, and Kael is proof of that," Charlie said, a serious tone in his voice. “And, I’m sorry, what you told me happened yesterday is real.” I looked at my older brother, feeling a mix of disbelief and awe. It was clear that he believed every word he was saying, and I couldn't help but wonder if there was more to the world than I could ever imagine. "Kael must have selected you, Sis," Charlie explained, his gaze fixed intently on me. "You're probably the Alpha's mate, and that's a big deal, you know. It's a huge responsibility. Do you understand the significance of this?" I sat there, dumbfounded, trying to comprehend what Charlie was saying. "I-I don't get it. What does it mean to be the Alpha's mate? And what's this about conceiving the Alpha's baby?" Charlie let out a deep sigh and leaned back in his chair. "Being the Alpha's mate means you're the only one who can bear the Alpha's child. And it's always a female werewolf. But sometimes, a human woman is chosen to be the Alpha's mate." "And why did Kael choose me?" I asked, still trying to grasp the concept. "I don't have an answer for you," Charlie said, shrugging. "All I know is that you are most probably the Alpha's mate. Kael is a leader of some pack, and he's chosen you." I was in shock. Werewolves? Mate? The reality of the situation hit me like a ton of bricks. This all seemed too weird, like something out of a fictional world. But as I gazed into Charlie's serious eyes, I realized that this was no fantasy. It was all too real. I was momentarily taken aback by Charlie's vast knowledge, but the blaring ringtone of my cellphone jolted me back to reality. My heart sank as I checked the caller ID. "Who is it?" Charlie pressed. I hesitated, my hand hovering over the phone. "Who is it, Dahlia?" Charlie repeated, his voice tinged with growing anxiety. I took a deep breath before answering, "It's the police, Charlie." Charlie's eyes widened with shock. "What's going on? Did you get into some kind of trouble? What did you do?" As the phone continued to ring, I felt a chill run down my spine. The truth was, I had no idea what kind of trouble I was in. But one thing was certain, my life would never be the same again.
